Maybe best known for the car in Back to the Future and the colossal end to the company, the DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) was the brainchild of John DeLorean in 1975. DeLorean produced one vehicle, the DeLorean DMC-12, a stainless steel sports car with gull-wing doors.
The DMC eventually went bankrupt after experiencing budget overruns, lack of demand, and unfavorable exchange rates. In an attempt to save his car company, John DeLorean, found himself embroiled in an FBI sting operation for trying to smuggle $24 million worth of cocaine into the U.S.
