Drum Roll Please . . .

Nissan, during media preview at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, revealed the 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept.  The angelic white ride easily reflected the distinct style of Nissan’s performance division but there was an extra touch.  It’s a convertible!

As a result, the stakes are higher . . .

“With as much attention as the exterior modifications are expected to attract, we knew the interior had to be just as special,” said  Pierre Loing, VP of Product Planning for Nissan North America, Inc.  “With the convertible top in the down position everything is in plain sight.”

370Z NISMO Roadster Concept welcomes drivers with black Recaro leather seats, red stitching accents and stain repellent for added protection. The Nissan Navigation system guides the driver behind the Alcantara leather-wrapped, 3-spoke steering wheel while a Bose system entertains them.  A red tachometer adds the finishing touch.

Nissan feels confident it’s a slam dunk.

“The idea of adding NISMO levels of look, feel and performance to a Nissan 370Z Roadster is one that we’ve been considering for a long time,” said Loing.  “The creation of the Nissan 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept brings that idea to life and lets us judge consumer reaction – which we predict is going to be outstanding.”

3.7-liter, DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control creates 350 horsepower and 276 lb-ft. of torque.  Variable Valve Event and Lift Control allow the engine an optimum balance of power and fuel economy, regardless of driving conditions. An enhanced Engine Control Module, tuned muffler and an H-configured exhaust system create additional horses not see in the regular 370Z.

The 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept carries a 7 speed automatic transmission.  That includes Downshift Rev Matching, Adaptive Shift Control with a manual mode and paddle shifters.

“The majority of 370Z Roadster buyers prefer the automatic transmission, which with Downshift Rev Matching and paddle shifters comes close to the performance of a 6-speed manual,” said Loing.

Other 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept features include a specifically tuned, 4-wheel independent suspension.  There are special springs and stabilizer bars too.  A Viscous Limited-Slip Differential boasts a shorter final drive ratio for maximum acceleration but larger brakes ensure the car can stop just as quick.

For Loing, it represents the total package.

“With the NISMO tuned engine, suspension and steering, it is a great combination for long open-top drives along the shoreline or mountain roads alike,” he said.
