2017 Nissan GT-R Premium: Product & Performance Overview

Car News

It’s most certainly a dream car – the kind people put on the background of their computer or phone. If I were a kid, it would make for a nice poster on my bedroom wall. Who am I kidding? Even as an adult I would still rock a GT-R poster.

However, if a $109,990 USD isn’t an issue, then you can do one better and put a 2017 Nissan GT-R Premium in your driveway. Nissan recently announced pricing on the GT-R Premium after an extensive overhaul.

Makeover

The GT-R first appeared in 2007 at the Tokyo Motor Show as a 2009 model. The 2017 GT-R is the most detailed redesign yet, with emphasis, during development, on five key areas: exterior design, interior refinement, driving performance, ride comfort, and advanced technology.

Styling & Shape

The 2017 Nissan GT-R carries a unique V-motion grille with a matte chrome finish, one of automaker’s latest design signatures. It’s more than just looks – the grille is enlarged for better engine cooling. A newly shaped hood better pronounces the GT-R’s stance – again, it’s more than a pretty face. The hood is reinforced to handle the rigors of high speed driving.

A really cool Blaze Metallic paint is now part of the exterior palette.

Interior & Technology

Nappa leather decorates the instrument panel while a new front seat design provides more comfort and stability. The Premium Edition interior features semi-aniline leather with three different options: Amber Red, Ivory, and a new Rakuda Tan.

The 2017 Nissan GT-R Premium can link to a smartphone to remotely lock or unlock the doors, activate the alarm, summon emergency services, or track the car if it is stolen. As automobiles today increase in the number of “things they can do,” the extra buttons can become overwhelming.

Nissan cleared up the clutter. The number of switches went from 27 on the prior generation to now only 11.

Performance & NVH Reduction

The 2017 Nissan GT-R is a heavy hitter: 565 horsepower, an increase of 20 over the 2016, with a flatter torque curve for better, more rapid acceleration. A new Titanium exhaust, standard on GT-R Premium, lets the engine notes soar when on the throttle.

Nissan employed Active Noise Cancellation, Active Sound Enhancement, acoustic glass, and targeted sound dampening to curb noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

Paddle shifters on the steering wheel further accentuate the thrills of adventurous driving.

Availability

The 2017 Nissan GT-R Premium is the first of four 2017 GT-R grades. Prices for the additional 2017 GT-R trim levels are forthcoming. Expect to see the 2017 GT-R mid-July at select Nissan dealerships in the United States.
