The New Ferrari 599 GTO

OK, my number one thing to do if I won the PowerBall lottery would be to clone Cyd Charisse twice. Cyd just got moved to second place. Say hello to the New Ferrari 599 GTO. Seriously, who the hell is going to top this? This car makes McLaren, Porsche and all the rest look like the garagiste they are.

The 599 GTO, a limited edition supercar, only 599 examples of the GTO will be built, was inspired by the track-only 599XX prototype from a few months back. The 599 GTO will make its public debut at the Beijing Auto Show in China at the end of April (got to go where the money is, huh?).

The new GTO is the company’s fastest ever road car, and it does this by making use of the 599XX’s tweaked 6.0-liter V12 engine. Said plant puts out 670-horsepower at 8,250 rpm with a maximum torque of 620Nm (457 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. For comparison, the standard 599 GTB puts out 620HP. even though the power is (way) up fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are both improve slightly to 17.5 km/l and 411 g/km respectively.

Power gets to the rear-wheels via the same six-speed sequential gearbox that now has quicker, 60 ms, shift times and the possibility to make multiple downshifts as found on the 599XX.

Quickness and speed? Ferrari says a 0-100km/h (62mph) acceleration time of just 3.35 seconds and a top speed over 335 km/h or 208mph. Is that quick enough for you? And even better? Maranello says that the 599 GTO circulated Fiorano in just 1min 24sec, or a second faster than the previous record set by the Enzo.

The handling has been improved with the use of new springs and a stiffer rear antiroll bar as well as a second-generation magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM2).

And the weight has been lowered thanks to the widespread use of composite materials, resulting in a dry weight of 3,295 lbs or 185 lbs less than the 599 GTB. That gives a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp. There’s also a lighter, carbon ceramic braking system, again derived from the 599XX, that helps the GTO come to a halt from 62mph in just 32.5 meters.

There’s a bunch of other stuff … aero tweaks and what’s new on the interior … but I need to be alone now.
