Lexus LF-CC Concept Previews Next IS

My my Lexus, what has happened to you? The Lexus LF-CC Concept has launched and most are pegging it as a preview to the next IS. Falling behind in the luxury race has really given the Japanese brand the kick start it desperately needed.

On top since 2000, Lexus recently lost its title of best-selling luxury brand in the United States. That’s because the brand was just coasting, riding on the premium image it had built up for itself. Lexus’ have been known for being quiet, safe and reliable. Problem is, the competition has improved in those areas as well.

Just look at the previous generation ES and you can see why Lexus has fell behind. Beginning with the 2013 Lexus GS, the brand has begun to turn out some impressive new models. At the Paris Motor Show, a more radical flavor of its styling language is being shown off with the LF-CC Concept. If there is one Lexus that we’ve always liked, it’s the IS. Even after being on the market for a few years, it is still stylish today. It’s high time for a replacement though, and that is where the LF-CC Concept comes in. It is a preview of what the next-generation IS could look like.

The IS goes up against the 3-Series, and is perhaps the brand’s most youth-oriented car. Rear-wheel drive, nicely styled, reliable – the formula works. If there is any car Lexus can be daring with, it is the next-generation IS. The result is, to our eyes, something special. We honestly didn’t have confidence that Lexus could come up with an appealing, unique design language. LF-CC shows one off brilliantly. We think it’s gorgeous. The question is: how much of a preview is this? If it is a dead ringer for the IS we’d be stoked. We’ll hold off on the celebrations for now – but if anything the LF-CC proves Lexus knows how to do luxury design at some level.
