Lexus has developed a new breed of sport sedan with their performance orientated 2008 Lexus IS-F. This version of the IS is powered by a 5.0 liter V8 that puts out 407HP and 350 ft.-lbs. of torque. Lexus is aiming at BMW’s M3 and Audi’s RS4 when they modified the current IS to this beast. The IS-F tears up the pavement with a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds, not bad for a rear wheel drive Japanese sedan.

Another innovative feature of the IS-F is its transmission, which is the world’s first eight-speed “direct sport-shift” transmission. The transmission can also be controlled in a manual mode via Formula one style paddle shifters on the steering column. Stopping power is created by some heavy-duty Brembo brakes with 14.2-inch discs and six-piston calipers. Helping keep the car in turns are 19 inch forged alloy wheels that match the cars wide body styling.

With that being said, the IS-F is definitely a thoroughbred performer with a luxurious feel. Lexus has been making headroom in a market dominated by BMW’s 3 series and this performance based model cements their desire to surpass the Germans. Now the price was not released during demonstrations at the car show but you can expect this car to cost some serious dinero. Hopefully if I hit the Mega Millions Jackpot, the IS-F would be on the top of my shopping list, behind the Lamborghini Gallardo.
