We’ve all seen the TV shows and the movies where zombies eat countless helpless humans. So naturally, we’ve all thought about it – what would I do in the event of a zombie apocalypse? What would I need to survive? Believe it or not, your best bet might just be a good car. The Walking Dead has its chop shop Hyundai survival car while Woody Harrelson had a zombie-smashing SUV in Zombieland.

Damage the zombies, not your car. Put a grille guard on the front of your vehicle to plow down zombies without damaging your car. A grille guard will provide full front protection and solid strength – the zombies won’t know what hit them but you and your undented car sure will. An off-road bumper will also provide maximum protection, and with the ability to add a winch, off-road lights, or D-ring shackles, you’ll be prepared for any situation.
Be ready to off-road. Put the appropriate wheels on your car so you can drive in the roughest terrain if need be – the bigger and tougher the tire, the more durable you’ll be. Install a suspension lift for added inches to avoid the tires rubbing against the fenders and to increase wheel travel ability. Be sure to have a sidebar installed that does not reduce ground clearance for quick and easy entrance into and out of your lifted vehicle. Those zombies aren’t going to obey traffic laws so you may need to take your car off-road.
Be aware of all your surroundings. Equip your car with off-road lights to always be able to see in the dark, near and far. You should invest in a light bar to put on the roof and front of you car. LED lights would be the safest bet because they are long-lasting, light up quickly, and are insensitive to vibrations and harsh environments. Also be sure to choose light bars with sturdy housings and shatterproof polycarbonate lenses. You can’t run over a zombie that you can’t see.
Stock your car with survival essentials
In the event of a zombie apocalypse, your car may need to be more than transportation – it could end up being your safest refuge. Make sure to stop up on survival essentials:
Solar Power: Make sure you have solar powered lights with you at all times. This way you will not have to worry about them burning out, and you’ll never be left in the dark and unaware. A headlight will come in handy as well.
Medical kit: Always have a medical kit in your vehicle to take care of any injuries. If you go down, it’s because of an epic zombie battle, not from an infected splinter! Make sure it has antibiotic ointment, gauze, ibuprofen, adhesives, alcohol pads, forceps to remove ticks/splinters, and of course, zombie bites.
Self-defense weapon: Have an axe or knife on hand, or a multi-tool that has all-in-one, at all times to be able to zombie slay on command. Not only will this allow you to defend yourself, but also you can cut down wood for fires and hunt for food.
Miscellaneous: Have a filtered water bottle on hand to be able to drink water from lakes/rivers. Also, an inflatable boat could be handy in case you need to ditch your ride and hit the water. Can zombies even swim? Last, a good pair of binoculars is great to have to see what’s coming from a mile away.
