Premier Protection Services offers extended auto warranties that cover the cost of repairs after your factory warranty expires. But is it a legit provider?

In this review, we’ll take a look at Premier Protection Services coverage, cost, customer service and more to help you determine whether you should purchase a protection plan from this provider. We’ll also recommend a few of our vetted choices for extended vehicle protection.

We’ve researched and ranked the best extended car warranty companies in the industry. You can start your research by getting free quotes from our top picks above.

Is a Premier Protection Services Extended Warranty Worth It?

Premier Protection Services works with plan administrators such as Allegiance, Marathon and Royal to offer drivers three vehicle service contracts based on vehicle mileage. These plans range from basic powertrain protection to exclusionary, bumper-to-bumper extended warranty coverage. Each contract comes with additional benefits on par with competitors’ offerings.

It’s important to note that the company has plausibly changed its name. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has an alert on the Premier Protection Services page that says the company may be out of business. The company’s website is also copyrighted 2016, which likely means it hasn’t been updated since then.

When our review team called the number listed on the Premier Protection Services website, we were greeted by a recorded response for a company called Driver’s Protection. Both Premier Protection Services and Driver’s Protection are based in Missouri and have identical websites and plan administrators. In this article, we will refer to the provider as Premier Protection Services.

Here’s how we rated Premier Protection Services:

Is it worth it? Overall, we weren’t blown away with what Premier Protection Services had to offer.

Premier Protection Services Extended Car Warranty Coverage

Premier Protection Services offers three extended warranty coverage plans. You will be eligible for one of the following plans based on your vehicle’s mileage:

Exclusionary New

This comprehensive plan is offered for vehicles with up to 75,000 miles on the odometer. It offers the closest level of coverage to a manufacturer’s warranty, including all electrical and mechanical components, aside from routine maintenance.

Stated Component

For vehicles with between 75,000 and 125,000 miles, Premier Protection Services offers a Stated Component vehicle protection plan that includes coverage for key components. These include the engine, transmission, drive axle, braking, suspension, cooling, fuel and electrical systems. Your contract will specifically list each covered part, and repairs to any part that’s not listed will have to be paid for out of pocket.

Enhanced Powertrain

The Premier Protection Services Enhanced Powertrain plan is tailored to vehicles with over 125,000 miles. The plan covers the most costly repairs that become more common to encounter as your vehicle ages. These components include your engine, transmission, drive axle assembly, air conditioning, fuel and electrical systems.

If at any time you are unhappy with your Premier Protection Services coverage, you can cancel your contract. If you cancel within 30 days of purchasing, you will receive a full refund. After 30 days, you’ll be eligible for a prorated refund minus a $150 cancellation fee. Premier Protection Services contracts are also fully transferable to subsequent owners.

Premier Protection Services Added Benefits

Many third-party auto warranty providers include perks with their coverage, and Premier Protection Services is no exception. With every contract, the company includes:

  • Emergency roadside assistance: Covers flat tire changes, battery jump-starts, towing, fluid deliveries and lockout services
  • Rental car coverage: Reimburses drivers if their vehicle becomes inoperable because of a covered repair
  • Trip interruption coverage: Covers lodging and meals should a breakdown occur far from home

Cost of a Premier Protection Services Extended Warranty

The cost of an extended auto warranty varies widely from vehicle to vehicle. The quote you’ll receive from Premier Protection Services will be based on a few factors, such as your vehicle’s make and model, as well as its age and mileage. These factors will also determine the plan you can select.

All Premier Protection Services contracts hold a $100 deductible that you’ll be responsible for paying each time a repair is made.

Based on our research, extended car warranties cost between $1,700 and $4,000 on average for three to seven years of coverage. Broadly speaking, a good price to pay for a vehicle service contract is between $2,000 and $2,500.

How to Get a Quote and File a Claim

To get a quote from Premier Protection Services, or Driver’s Protection, you can call 800-908-7855 or visit either company’s website.

When we called this number and were directed to a customer service representative, we were asked to provide a code from one of the company’s solicitation letters. After explaining that we did not have a code and that we were just interested in getting a quote, we were placed on hold, and about five minutes later, the call was disconnected.

Filing a Claim

In the event that your vehicle breaks down, simply call the claims number on your ID or policy booklet, and Premier Protection Services will send roadside assistance, arrange a rental car for you and help schedule your repairs at a facility certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE®).

Once repairs have been completed, you’ll pay your deductible and Premier Protection Services will pay the rest of the cost directly to the repair shop.

Premier Protection Services Reviews

As mentioned, Premier Protection Services and Driver’s Protection have separate BBB business profiles. To give you a holistic view, we considered customer reviews from both BBB pages. Unfortunately, neither page has many positive reviews.

Premier Protection Services holds a C+ rating and a 1 out of 5-star customer review score. Driver’s Protection has a F rating and has received over 60 customer complaints in the last three years. Neither company is accredited by the BBB, which isn’t unusual, as companies may be required to pay hefty fees to receive accreditation.

Many complaints about both companies focus on having trouble canceling a plan, encountering pushy customer service reps and receiving unsolicited calls and letters. Here are what some of Premier Protection Services and Driver’s Protection customers have to say:

“This company tries to intimidate you into buying their ‘service’ by sending out ominous letters with phrases like, ‘you are at risk for being financially liable,’ ‘we reserve the right to revoke your eligibility,’ ‘immediate response required,’ ‘personal and confidential’ and ‘final warning.’”

– CATHY NGUYEN VIA GOOGLE

“My whole experience with this company was very sketchy and frustrating to say the least. I regret giving them my credit card information and putting a $495 down payment for something I wasn’t too sure about. I talked to a few different people, and they said it’s likely a scam so I called back to get a full refund, and the representatives would not give up.”

– SKYLER SUAREZ VIA GOOGLE

Our Verdict on Premier Protection Services: 4.0 / 10.0

Based on Premier Protection Services’ sparse plan options, lack of information available online and poor customer reviews, we recommend looking for more established and reputable extended car warranty companies. We also are concerned by our below-average customer experience with the provider.

Our Picks for Best Extended Car Warranties

When purchasing an extended warranty, it’s always smart to shop around and get quotes from multiple providers to ensure you’re getting a good deal for your coverage. But with so many providers out there, it can be difficult to know which company best suits your needs.

To help you narrow down your options, our research team reviewed every major auto warranty provider in the industry. We examined each company’s plan options, industry reputation and customer reviews, plus collected quotes to evaluate cost and service quality first hand. Based on this research, we recommend reaching out to Endurance and CARCHEX.

Endurance: Best Provider

Endurance is a direct provider, meaning it handles all claims and payments directly instead of administering other companies’ plans like Premier Protection Services does. This cuts out the middleman, which can lead to a better customer service experience.

Endurance offers six levels of coverage, and each plan comes with a free year of Endurance Elite Benefits. This membership gives drivers perks like 24/7 roadside assistance, trip interruption coverage, total loss protection and more.

CARCHEX: Best for High-Mileage Cars

CARCHEX has one of the longest mileage term limits on the market, which is why we named it Best for High-Mileage Cars. The company offers five distinct plans that can cover vehicles up to 250,000 miles. CARCHEX is also backed by industry leaders, including Kelley Blue Book, CARFAX, RepairPal and Edmunds.com.
