If you want insane, just head over to Hennessey – they are a tuner always happy to oblige. With all the talk of electric cars and hybrids n the automotive industry, the horsepower wars are still as prevalent as ever. In fact, we’d say more so than ever.
Just ask Ford and the 650-horsepower Shelby GT500. Most think the 6.4-liter V-8 with 470-hp in the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 is enough power for their tastes. It would be for ours. Hennessey turned up the dial on every measure though, and has produced some eye-popping numbers. The result is the 2013 HPE800 Twin Turbo Jeep by Hennessey Performance.
The HPE800 packs a bored out 7.0-liter V-8 pumping out 805 brake horsepower and 823 pound feet of torque to the wheels. It makes the power thanks to a twin-turbocharged forced induction system, which sends the HPE800 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. Quarter mile comes in 10.9 seconds at 130 mph. To handle the extra power, Hennessey fitted a beefed up transmission and torque converter, lowered the sports suspension system and installed 15.1 Brembo brakes front and rear. Other changes include lighter alloy wheels, a carbon fiber front splitter and a custom leather interior with Alcantara steering wheel. This is anything new for Hennessey though:
“We’ve built dozens of 600-800 hp Jeep SRT8s over the past five years, so we have an existing client base who will want to upgrade the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 to an even higher level” says John Hennessey. “This vehicle is designed for the performance minded driver who lives in Aspen or Moscow and wants to be the fastest in all weather conditions.”
There isn’t likely to be many of those buyers out there – just about 24 in fact, as Hennessey has limited production to that figure.
Price tag will start at a whopping $235,000. HPE800: $235,000. Blowing away super cars at a stoplight? Priceless.
