GM just announced that the deal to sell the failing Hummer brand to Chinese company Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co., Ltd. fell through. No specifics were given, only that they were “unable to complete the acquisition of HUMMER.” Way to be specific there, boys.
As a result, GM is shutting down Hummer completely, Pontiac-style. Still honoring warranties, yadda yadda, but you can’t go buy one anymore (not that anyone was.) GM said they will “begin the orderly wind-down of the HUMMER operations.” Looks like affluent tough guys around the country will have to look elsewhere for the ridiculously large, mostly pointless SUVs.
If you like them, you’re likely to pick one up for cheap. You never know, they might be worth something down the road.
