The Camaro Z/28 Beats a Lamborghini LP640 Around the Nurburgring (video)

And actually it’s even more impressive than that; it did it on a wet track.

While we’re still waiting for the Camaro Z/28’s final details for release next year, Chevy just released a video that will get some of you flying your American flag high again.

Chevy just put the upcoming Camaro Z/28 around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, which we all know as the end-all of sports car testing tracks, and posted a more-than-impressive lap time of 7:37:47. You can watch the run from the driver’s seat below.

What’s that mean?

Well, to put it into perspective, let’s take a look at a few of the cars surrounding that time:

And again…the track was wet.

For a car that’s been criticized for being bulky, wobbly, and overweight, you can’t argue with those results from the new variation.

The 2014 Z/28 sports 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque via its 7.0-liter LS7 V8, and includes a cold-air intake and K&N air filter from the factory, along with a special dual mode exhaust system that bypasses the mufflers while accelerating for more power and sound-awesomeness.

Although the Camaro ZL1 boasts a more powerful supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing 580 hp, the Z/28 drops 300 lbs over the ZL1 thanks to dropping lots of “extras” like standard air conditioning, the audio system, using thinner glass, lighter wheels, a smaller battery, and removing some sound deadening and carpeting from the trunk.

We already talked about the changes for the 2014 Chevy Camaro, and the Z/28 is going to be the poster-boy for the car’s more aggressive appearance, getting a wider, lower look, a hood vent, and some different tail lights and special aero package over the regular Camaro.

Inside the Z/28 get a special matte-metallic finish and standard Recaro seats with microfiber inserts. The rear seats have also been modified to reduce weight.

Although in a car like this you’d think they’d remove the rear seats or just make them an uncomfortable small bench seat, Chevy’s leaving the two-seater job to the Corvette and wouldn’t want to lose sales to its flagship sports car.
