7 Ways Sport Mode Enhances The 2017 Ford Fusion Sport

In an era where driving dynamics are emphasized and demanded, Ford Motor Company responds accordingly. The 2017 Fusion Sport brings new heat to the midsize sedan segment, with a powerful EcoBoost engine, adaptive suspension, and fully-enabled paddle shifters.

In addition, the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport features a revamped sport mode. Driving a car in sport mode is a lot of fun and, frankly, addicting. It’s a different animal entirely. Sport mode in the Fusion Sport changes seven distinct attributes.

#1 Engine

The most obvious one! Throttle programming in the 2.7-liter EcoBoost switches for more responsiveness. The engine produces a banging 325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

#2 Transmission

Another obvious one probably, but the transmission becomes more aggressive. The Fusion Sport picks lower gears for more power and even holds them through turns to maximize cornering. Downshifts with braking are smoothed through rev-matching. When letting off the gas, gears hold for an engine brake effect.

#3 Paddle Shifters

In sport mode, the driver has total control over the transmission.

#4 Sound

This one may not be so obvious. Noise cancellation is employed so the engine notes are heard and felt.

#5 Handling

The continuously controlled dampers stiffen up to match engine and transmission response. The suspension also reduces excessive body roll and lean.

#6 Steering

The electric power-assisted steering is crisp and clean to compliment the handling. Steering response now better matches the overall dynamics of sport mode.

 #7 Cluster

An icon telling you it’s in sport mode is pretty sweet.

High Demand

The 2017 Fusion Sport is eagerly anticipated by customers, retailers, and those outside the brand.

“Owners of other midsize sedans, along with our own dealers, ask repeatedly,” said Wade Jackson, Ford Fusion Marketing Manager.

According to Jackson, the 2017 Fusion Sport competes exceptionally well against cars like the BMW 535i, Audi A6 3.0T, and Mercedes-Benz E400.

“Cross-shoppers will be shocked by the bang for the buck our new Fusion Sport delivers,” he said.

The 2017 Ford Fusion Sport starts at $33,475 with standard all-wheel drive.
