Since 1972, people have been tuning into The Price is Right. The game that tests the contestants’ ability to properly identify product’s prices in order to win cash and prizes.
Prizes have run the gamete from trips to exotic locations, exercise equipment, money, furniture and much more, but the ultimate prize for any contestant is winning a brand new car.
Cars have been the big prizes since 1972 when the show debuted in its current format. The first car given was a 1972 Chevy Vega with a value of $2,746, won by Connie Dunnall.
During the 42 seasons over 8,000 cars have been won and although most of them have been sedans and compact cars, recently there have been much better prize cars offered by the show. Some of the highlights include: a 1964 Bentley S3, a 1975 Corvette Stingray, a 1955 Ford Thunderbird, a 1957 Chevy, a 1966 Pontiac GTO, a Tesla Roadster, an Audi R8 and even a Ferrari 458 Italia Spider (even though it wasn’t won.)
Next week is the return of Dream Car Week on The Price is Right were the cars that contestants can win are truly that, dream cars.
Looking at the cars there really isn’t a bad one among them. The Porsche Cayenne offers the utility of a sports utility vehicle, but with the driver focused nature of a Porsche. The Range Rover Sport, one of the best luxury sports utility vehicles that can be had right now, enough said.
Then there’s the Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 with its elegant Italian styling and a soul that comes from a company that has been making cars for 100 years. The Tesla Model S is the outlier of the group since it doesn’t use an internal combustion engine, but electric motors. Still, the car has many of the factors that make a great luxury car. Finally the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster, which with just one look, it’s obvious why this car is here. A great sounding V8 and no top, there really isn’t anything else that needs to be said.
The dream cars aren’t the only things special about the week with special guest models Matthew Atkinson and Hunter King from The Young And The Restless and Karla Mosley from The Bold And The Beautiful.
Dream Car Week airs on Oct. 13 – 17 on CBS and is broadcast weekdays (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT).
If these cars don’t float your boat, we would love to hear what dream cars, you would like to see as prizes for the next The Price is Right Dream Car Week.
