The 16th annual July Jamboree in Cedar City, UT wowed visitors on Saturday, July 13th. If you attended, you were treated to big fun and a taste of the area’s best local cuisine. Moreover, the event showcases the best and most beautiful cars in the area.
The jamboree caters to the whole family, with something for everyone to enjoy. Vendors are there to serve you, so grab a snow cone or a soft serve. Even if you only show up for the car and bike show, you’re in for a great time. Most of the proceeds go to fund the Rotary Club, which in turn helps the local community.
What To Do
Cedar City’s Main Street was closed for the event, so drivers were rerouted by detour signs and patrolmen. The entirety of Main Street was used for the event, with vendor booths and jamboree functions lining the downtown street.
All types of great local food were available. There were also opportunities for purchasing arts and crafts. Kids were invited to participate in a lot of activities, from balloons to crafts. Many activities were free, while some vendors asked you to pay a small fee to participate. Admission to get onto Main Street was 100% free, so if money is tight, guests still had a great time without spending a cent.
The main attraction, for most visitors, was the classic car and bike show. There were 200 cars showcased at this year’s jamboree. Models included a beautifully restored green 1969 Chevelle Super Sport. The owner spent a whopping $40,000 restoring the car over a period of 8 years. Another incredible inclusion was Blake Brown’s car, a burgundy 1967 classic Ford Mustang. Brown says he spent over 200 hours restoring the Mustang.
Children and the young at heart were invited to play on the midway. Carnival rides decorated the area, offering opportunities to ride and play. Each ride cost a few tickets. Tickets could be purchased at a few booths scattered around the area.
Who Hosts the Jamboree?
All proceeds from the July jamboree go to the local Rotary Club. If you’re not familiar with the Rotary Club, they’re a national organization that has chapters, or clubs, throughout the country.
Members of Rotary Clubs are committed to providing humanitarian service to their communities. Sponsors provide even more financial support to the Rotary Club, thus giving back to their community in some pretty stellar ways.
This year’s corporate and individual sponsors chipped in to help make the July Jamboree a rousing success. Children and their parents really enjoyed the experience, with folks everywhere smiling and admiring the beautiful vintage automobiles. Although the Rotary Club generously hosted the July Jamboree, it’s the community that really made it such a successful year.
Cars, Cars Everywhere
The cars in the cruise weren’t roped off, so visitors were treated to an up close and personal view of the engines, interiors and body work. Everyone was invited to walk around the cars and peer inside. The amazing detail work makes this classic car and bike show one of the best in the country.
Local Book-listed Cedar City Auto Body Repair had some very admiral cars in the show. There were also countless beautiful cars and bikes brought in by individuals. Prizes were awarded to the best cars in the show in addition to bragging rights to all trophy holders.
Overall, the July Jamboree was a huge success, but we suspect next year will be better. So, mark your calendar and make sure to hit Cedar City’s main street even in July 2014.
