A Pony for Christmas: 2015 Ford Mustang Revealed

2015 Ford Mustang rear

Almost a year has past since the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was given a public introduction at a ceremony ahead of the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Despite several renderings and some leaked service manuals, the seventh-generation Corvette was preserved as a surprise until the cover was removed on the Sunday night in early January. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s near-painful wait was something totally worth living through the anticipation. Personally, I have always been one a person who appreciated a wait for a reasonable amount of time for something great. After all, you only get to see something for the first time once.

Following last year‘s excitement, the 2014 edition of the North American International Auto Show was expecting something similar with the release of the 2015 Ford Mustang. Unfortunately, Ford Motor Company did not appear willing to let people endure a wait through the New Year. Over the past few days, an Autoweek story on the 2015 Ford Mustang has spoiled the official public introduction of the new car in Detroit. For this reason, this is probably the 100th article released online about the new pony car (for that reason, I am extra-careful in making this article worth your while to read). In time for the holidays, the sixth-generation Mustang will be the equivalent to car enthusiasts that candy cane dreams are to children going to sleep on Christmas Eve.

The fifth-generation Ford Mustang has been the Blue Oval’s champion of performance since 2005. Celebrated for its heavily emphasis on retro-themed styling of the first production pony car, you could understand the Ford designers painted themselves into a corner when it came to the roots for the Mustang. The next Ford Mustang had to look forward to show what a 21st century pony car is. Conforming to rumours, the 2015 Mustang features a greater adherence to the characteristics seen on other Ford products. The Evos concept car’s shape first shown in 2011 greatly influences the new Ford Mustang. Overall, the all-new design is lower and wider than its predecessor. The front end of the 2015 car is still decisively the Ford Mustang featuring what is described as “the signature shark-bite“. Despite the Ford Fusion-like headlamp housings, the 2015 Mustang projects the customary pony car meanness thanks to its big grille.

The All-New 2015 Ford Mustang

The side profile of the new Ford Mustang might leave the most getting used to by fans. One of the more notable details at the side of the 2015 model year Mustang is the absence of the non-functioning air ducts ahead of the rear wheels. This will probably be accepted with mixed feelings from Mustang fans. Originally incorporated on the first Ford Mustang, the duct detail was recreated on the fourth as well as the recent fifth generation models. With the deletion of the elements, a cleaner, unobstructed side presents greater sophistication. Some early opinions on the rear side window pokes at the fact it looks similar to the Nissan GT-R in shape. Funny enough, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was also commented by critics as mimicking the Japanese sports car.

Probably the most palatable for fans of the Ford Mustang currently sold, the rear light presentation appears very familiar. Tri-bars taillights provide the 2015 Mustang with more defined detail. Returning to the 2015 Ford Mustang is a fastback rear window. The shape of the new Ford Mustang’s lower height greenhouse produces a shorter deep lid. If a permanent roof is not your style, the 2015 Ford Mustang convertible will come with a multi-layered soft top as equipped standard. The entire 2015 Ford Mustang is based on a stiffened platform with all-new suspension providing more comfortable and responsive handling.

Inside the 2015 Ford Mustang, the driver will continue to be welcomed by a steering wheel replicating the design of the 1960s origin car. 2015 Mustangs with an automatic transmission will include wheel-mounted shift paddles to indulge in more of a driver-controlled performance. Improved ergonomics allows the new Mustang to be roomier for the driver as well as passengers. Ford SYNC, MyKey, MyColor gauges as well as a Shaker Pro audio system will be available inside the 2015 Ford Mustang. The new Mustang will also offer the possibility to engage with interactive smartphone content through available Track Apps.

Three engine options will be offered on the 2015 Ford Mustang with two familiar choices and an all-new powerplant. A 5.0 liter V-8 engine will continue to lead the charge for the Mustang in 2015. Upgraded with a better intake manifold, valvetrain and cylinder head, the 2015 model 5.0 Mustang will be propelled by over 420 horsepower and 390 pounds-feet of torque. With over 300 horsepower, the 3.7 liter V-6 engine option on the 2015 Ford Mustang will prove popular for budget-minded performance seekers. Certain to attract the most attention, the 2015 Mustang’s powerplant array will include the model’s first EcoBoost engine. A turbocharged, direct-injected 2.3 liter engine, this four-cylinder engine was previous unveiled with the introduction of the Lincoln MKC crossover. Power from the 2.3 liter EcoBoost is said to be comparable to the V-6 engine while presenting spectacular fuel economy. The EcoBoost engine will be the first four-cylinder powerplant available on the Mustang after a more than 20-year absence. A turbocharged engine, the 2.3 liter EcoBoost powerplant will provide the first factory turbocharged option offered on pony car since the discontinuation of the Ford Mustang SVO in 1986.

A secret Ford could no longer contain, the 2015 Mustang is now public knowledge. With the approaching auto shows for 2014, the unveiling of the new Ford Mustang will at least guarantee an attraction. A favourite of North America, the 2015 Ford Mustang in hardtop and convertible form will be launched with an increased global focus.
