Greener LS3 Crate Engine Into 1955 Chevy

1955-Chevrolet-LS3-V8-1.jpg

Since yesterday’s Ford street rod was so well received, I think it’s time to give Chevy their due. The General Motors division, in addition to bringing along a raft of custom Camaros to this year’s SEMA show, also produced along a rather tastefully done up 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air with an attractively finished LS3 crate motor dropped into the engine bay.

Not bad … not bad …

Ford EcoBoost 1934 Hot Rod At SEMA

ecoboosthotrodlive_01.jpg

Dropping a new mill into and old car has been going on since the new models first started rolling out more than a hundred years ago. Shoot, that’s what made the hot rod craze what it is when it started back in the 1950s. But here’s a modern take on the hot rod, literally. FoMoCo decided to up and drop its latest 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 into a 1934 Hot Rod and show it off at SEMA. Sweet!

GM Decides Opel Not For Sale

Opel-GM-0.jpg

Looks like the on again/off again sale of General Motor’s long held Euro-brand Opel is now definitely off, and The General will not be selling the company off to Magna. What makes this really odd is that the deal was nearly complete when the GM Board of Directors decided to terminate the sale process. GM has decided to keep the European unit under its direct control and not sell in to Russian-backed group led by Magna.

Why? Why cancel the sale now? GM said it’s because of an “improving business environment for GM over the past few months” as well as the Opel/Vauxhall brands being important to the GM’s global strategy.

The Leaf, Nissan’s big jump into the pure electric vehicle world (a la Tesla, Fisker et al) will not only becoming to America, but also looks to be headed south of the border as well. OK. Not all of Mexico, but at least Mexico City, which is smart move in a whole bunch of ways.

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Review

Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Once upon a time, there was an Auto Journalist named Chris. Chris went for a walk to the local car dealer. Pretty soon, he came upon three sports cars in the dealership and decided to take a look.

Chris really liked the three coupes, and decided take them for a test drive. He drove the first car, a 2010 Chevy Camaro.

“This car is great,” he exclaimed, “but it’s not nimble enough for me, I want something smaller, lighter and tighter-handling.”

So, he drove the second sports car - a 2010 Nissan 370Z.

“This car is even better. It’s light, fun, nimble, and powerful.” he said, “but it only has two seats, and I need to drive it every day and carry things around. The trunk is too small for that.”

So, he drove the last sports car - a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe… Continue Reading…

Jetta TDI Cup ‘Street’ Edition To Dealers Soon

JettaTDICupStreetEdition.jpg

The Jetta TDI Cup “street version looks to be finally heading to dealers. This, a sporting version of economical cars, is something I’ve long been a proponent of. And in Volkswagen’s case this looks to be a car that’s both fun, and light on the wallet – and potentially the environment as well.
