Well, Pagani really didn’t do much this year at the Geneva Motor Show, but we weren’t expecting much either.

What they did is display two Huayras on their stage and look quite fancy doing it. After getting back to the hotel and sorting through the pictures, I realized that I only took two pictures of the red Huayra; I focused almost completely on the blue one. Subconscious attraction to that car in blue I guess?

The Pagani Huayra, if you’re not familiar (and if you’re not, what are you doing here?) is Pagani’s latest – the successor to the incredible Zonda we all fell in love with many years ago. While I don’t think the Huayra is anywhere as sexy as the Zonda, it’s a technically impressive machine, to say the least.

Topping the Top Gear power laps board (although that’s been contested recently since they used different tires for the power lap than comes on the car standard,) the Huayra’s secret weapon is its body. Weighing in at only 2,976 lbs, the car has four flaps that adjust and vary their position depending on the data it gets from from yaw and pitch sensors, as well as lateral acceleration, steering angle and throttle position.

Under the impressive carbon fiber skin is an AMG-sourced 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine producing 730 hp and 738 lbft of torque. Able to reach speeds of over 230 mph at top speed, it gets from zero to sixty in 3.3 seconds and lapped the Top Gear track in only 1 minute 13.8 seconds. The transmission is a seven-speed sequential gearbox and despite many supercars transitioning to a double-clutch system, Pagani went with a single clutch tranny to save weight.

All-in-all, this car was designed from the beginning to go around a track as quickly as possible, and it delivers. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, it’s not for the energy-conscious; it gets 10 mpg in the city and 14 on the highway.

Enjoy gawking over the rest of the photos of the Pagani Huayra from the 2013 Geneva Motor Show:

There is a new car atop the Top Gear performance lap time board called the Pagani Huayra. I think it’s time I put the latest Pagani creation at the forefront of your gearhead minds because I know it’s #1 on my ultimate wish list.

I mean that, and I’m not talking about your average wish list of attainable cars you would like to buy in the future, or even if you hit the lottery. If someone were to ask me if I could pick any one car in existence to make my own, it would be the Huayra. In my correct opinion it is the greatest car created to date, and it will be a while before anything quite as dramatic and amazing is created again. In fact until they make cars that fly with small jet engines and thrusters that are readily available to people for the price of a Ferrari, this is the most epic form of transportation out there. If the Chris Pine version of Kirk was going to have something that stuck to the ground with 4 rubber tires, this is the only thing he would get into.

I think I’ve made my point, but let us go over the performance specs of the car while we drool over the pictures. And oh…yes, before I go on here is a general pronunciation of the cars name. No it isn’t the Pagani (Hurr-ah), it is more like the Pagani (Who-why-ra).

I’ll start from the inside and go over the guts of the Huayra and move out from there. A Mercedes-AMG V12 powers this car; one which is specially designed just for the Huayra and by the way, has 2 turbochargers as well! It develops 730 cv (cheval vapeaur) which most people convert to 700 hp. However I took the trouble to do some math and found the true cv into hp number: 719.7 hp…now you can be an ass whenever someone says it only has 700…you’re welcome!

Obviously the power of the rather compact V12 is located in the right place: between the drivers back and the rear tires. This gives the car a 44% front – 56% rear weight distribution. They also went for the more brute RWD just adding to the excitement of the car, truly making you drive the car, and the monstrous howling scream of the quad exhaust outlets is enough to make a Chevy Volt wee itself. The whistle from the twin turbos sounds like the god of wind that it was named for, and might make a GT-R second guess its manhood.

Moving on to handling, this car is quite unique and has taken active aerodynamics to the next level! To begin with the entire body is shaped like a wing, but it also has 4 wings or aero “flaps” that deploy and retract independently to assist through cornering and braking. Through sensors the car can sense if it is unstable through a corner and deploy one or both of the front or rear flaps to gain more down-force and grip to the corner of the car that it is most needed. This video demonstrates the active aero in action on track…and on the street a wee bit.

This means it can corner at much faster speeds and remain stable. Under braking these also deploy to assist in stopping the car. This essentially means it can brake later, accelerate sooner, and carry more speed…period. The car also has active adapting suspension that stiffens or softens to provide optimum grip. For example, under braking, the front suspension stiffens and raises up to prevent forward body roll, keeping the nose from dipping and staying balanced. The body is made from carbotanium, which is actually stronger and lighter than carbon fiber. Who’da thought.

I don’t think the exterior of the car is quite as sharp and beautiful as the Zonda, but it’s just as shocking and more performance focused, and as I always say more beauty can be found in form following function than anything else. Look at a Formula 1 car for example…it is a discordant mess! Yet you know every piece is designed to make it faster, so it is beautiful to behold.

Having said that, the interior is what truly turns the Huayra into a Hyper-Exotic car. It’s modern and sexy while still looking faster than anything that’s ever been made before! It makes you want to be in the drivers seat, because if it looks like this, than the experience that awaits you must be equally mind-blowing. It’s organic and beautiful while looking purposeful and mechanical all at once. The mixture of leathers with carbon fiber and titanium… and the digital colorful screens on the dash, beside the analog gauges…it is perfect.

This is the perfect car. It is so original and so organic in its design but it’s also engineering perfection. Form following function, science and design side by side. But this should be a benchmark, not a one time pantomime expression of what a car CAN be No…this is the ultimate expression of what a performance car SHOULD be!

20 years from now, your average sports coupe should look almost as epic and beautiful as this, and should be able to do 200, not a mere 150. Because in 50 years we should be piloting cars that defy gravity and have turbine thrusters, or what have you. We as humans are constantly pushing boundaries, pushing ourselves to do more amazing and stunning things. Shouldn’t our cars do the same? 100 years ago people paid to see cars rumble around a brick track in Indianapolis at 70 mph. 50 years ago the Jaguar E-Type coupes did 149 mph at top end, and were considered the Veyron of their time. Car companies need to look to Pagani for the future. What’s considered the ultimate or the pinnacle now, should soon be considered the normal. As for now though, the Pagani Huayra is the best car in the world.

Modern supercars have incredible features that are bringing these vehicles closer to jets on wheels. The speeds have gotten so incredible that there is now a new class of supercar: hypercars.

The trend has been to develop more lightweight vehicles made of composites with ridiculously powerful and highly tuned engines.

Here is a list of the ten supercars to watch for in 2013. As you’ll see, the trend for extreme speeds and high prices looks set to continue. For the dreamers we added one concept car that we would love to see developed and manufactured.

DC Avanti – $57,387

India has developed its first supercar with the DC Avanti. It has a wide smiling front with a crisp, efficient, compact shape. India has a large population with more wealth to spend on exotic cars, but the DC Avanti may be one of the most affordable on the list. This supercar is based around a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine delivering 261 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 7 seconds, which is just a smidgen faster than your typical family SUV!

Pagani Huayra – $1,360,000

The Pagani Huayra bursts with energy and looks like a power plant ready to explode. The lightweight carbon-titanium chassis weighs less than 3,000 pounds. This machine is built for pure speed with its 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 engine. The Huayra reaches 230 miles per hour with 700 horsepower.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta – $330,000

The Berlinetta goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.0 seconds. Immediate acceleration is delivered by this well-made famous model. The steering is delicate to provide great control for the driving elite. This superfast Ferrari has arguably the most bang for the buck out of this bunch.

Since 1963, Lamborghini has set the standard for many supercars with its jaw-dropping appearance. The Lamborghini Aventador GT has a powerful mid-mounted 6.5-liter, V12 engine. This unique model is a four-seat supercar with shortened scissor doors. Now the entire family can enjoy the supercar’s speed. With 700 horsepower, the Aventador GT is expected to launch at the March 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The McLaren 12C Spider comes in a convertible or coupe version for 2013. Its 6.0 liter, V12 engine goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds. With 510 horsepower, it is less potent than competitor models. The McLaren’s top speed is 183 miles per hour.

Tramontana XTR – $800,000

The Spanish Tramontana XTR generates 888 horsepower. This bull is run by a Mercedes-Benz 5.5-liter, V-12 twin-turbocharged engine. It is a 2-passenger supercar going from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. The Tramontana XTR has a top speed of 200 miles per hour. Look for this model at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2013.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – $2,725,000

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport features a 1,200 horsepower 8.0-liter, 16-cylinder engine that can power the car up to 268 mph. In other words – it packs a punch. It is after all, the fastest production car in the world right now.

Aston Martin One-77 – $1,850,000

Does the idea of owning an Aston Martin get old? Not in our opinion. There will only be 77 of this car made, hence the name “One-77.” if you have an extra $1.85 million lying around, you might want to visit your nearest dealer. Imagine driving 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds, and powered by a 7.3 litre 12 engine that delivers 750 hp. Not only will you arrive at your destination quickly, you will arrive in style. The One-77 might be the best looking car on this list, and as you can tell, one of our favorites.

Lamborghini Estoque – Concept

The Estoque is one of the rare front-engine supercars built by Lamborghini. Its 5.2-liter, V10 engine has 6 speeds. This model has a lightweight aluminum architecture with carbon-fiber and all-independent, double-wishbone suspension. This full-size luxury car has a base curb weight of 3,850 pounds and height of 53.2 inches (1.35 meters). Sounds nice but at this point making it to the showroom floors anytime soon might be a stretch. The Estoque is not yet approved and would need at least four years to make the four-door sedan a reality. Economics may be part of the issue, but we will hold on to the vision a little while longer.

Are there any upcoming or current supercars you’re excited to see in 2013?

Every product has a shelf-life – even limited production supercars. The original Pagani Zonda was introduced in 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Nearly 12 years later, Pagani is planning the rollout of its redesigned supercar, the Huayra. The Huayra brings an increased level of attention to detail, developmental prowess and – most importantly – performance. The Zonda was never sold in the United States.

Private buyers have imported the Zonda to the U.S, but Pagani never entered our market in an official capacity. There have been various reasons bandied about, such as the car not meeting U.S safety and emissions standards.

The Huayra has no such excuses, meeting emissions and safety standards in all countries around the world. In addition, Pagani did just fine without selling here as well, with the company managing to sell every car it could make. However, with the Huayra the Italian manufacturer is finally setting its sights here.

Horacio Pagani, founder of the company commented, saying: “We are thrilled at the opportunity to represent the Pagani brand in the United States and we look forward to the successful launch of the Huayra…..this automobile is the result of five years of dedicated effort from the Pagani team and we see this as an unprecedented opportunity to continue expanding our vision of the future for the supercar industry.”

Pagani’s managing director Francesco Zappacosta has confirmed the car will be sold in the U.S through two dealers. Price tag? A cool $1.1 million. Who said performance was cheap?

The Huayra gets its engined sourced from Mercedes-Benz AMG, utilizing a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine custom built for Pagani. The 12-cylinder unit makes 700 horsepower and puts out 738 pound feet of torque. That power is put to the pavement through a 7-speed sequential gearbox by racing firm Xtrac. With a weight of just 2,976 pounds, we can’t wait to see the performance figures achieved by the Huayra. More information on the car’s U.S-arrival is said to come in the next few weeks.

In today’s automotive climate, it can be a tough business surviving as a small independent manufacturer. However, Italian exotic manufacturer Pagani has done pretty well for itself with the Zonda.

Over the past decade, the company has significantly increased production and entered new markets. All cars have a shelf life though, even supercars like the Zonda. Introduced in 1999, the time has clearly come for a replacement, and the new car is dubbed Huayra.

The Huayra remains clearly recognizable as a Pagani. The car has been redesigned though, with a new front end that retains the dual-headlight setup. It becomes smother and has a new fascia that manages to make it look more bulbous and heavy-looking. We can’t say we’re fans – to our eyes it is a step backward.

The primary reason to buy a Pagani isn’t likely to be styling though – the Zonda didn’t win many design awards.

Elsewhere the look is one of increased refinement, with a smoother body and more aerodynamic lines. The look is one that appears to have spent some time in the wind-tunnel. The interior is also a significant upgrade, with a new technology package and design.

The basis of the Huayra is a carbon-titanium monocoque. The car uses a variety of advanced composites to achieve high levels of rigidity and lightness. With carbon fiber body panels, the Huayra checks in at just 2,976 pounds, far lighter than any of its other supercar rivals. That ends up being the car’s secret weapon.

One of the car’s unique features is active aerodynamics. The Huayra has four flaps that adjust and vary their angles position responding to data from yaw and pitch sensor data, as well as lateral acceleration, steering angle and throttle position.

Pagani says “the result is that the machine constantly change its shape, from time to time to ensure the minimum friction coefficient and the maximum downforce.”

Utilizing advanced crash testing, Huayra also meets all safety standards in the United States and Europe. The car has a safety cell made of different composites and what Pagani dubs “ballistics.”

Like the Zonda, motivation comes from Mercedes-Benz AMG, utilizing a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder biturbo engine. It isn’t just an off-the shelf AMG engine though; it was tailored to Pagani’s exacting specifications for duty in the Huayra.

The engine makes 700 horsepower and puts out 738 pound feet of torque. That is powering an aerodynamic vehicle that weighs just under 3,000 pounds. It should make for superlative performance. The AMG engine is mated to a 7-speed sequential gearbox made by racing firm Xtrac, who all was the supplier for the Zonda R.

That’s it for now as far as specifications – 0-60 numbers and other good stuff is being saved for later. For now, what do you think of the Huayra?

Ah yes, yet another ultra-rare, ultra-expensive exotic wrecked. This time it’s a Pagani Zonda F, of which only 25 were ever made. None of those came to the States since it wouldn’t be street legal (damn EPA.)

The Pagani Zonda F’s body is made completely from bare carbon fiber as you can see in the pictures. The 594 hp 7.3-liter V12 engine can propel the Zonda from 0 to 62 mph in only 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of a claimed 220 mph.

It’s unclear what exactly happened in the crash, but according to sources, the Zonda driver was headed back from a track event when an out of control truck forced the car into a row of unparked cars. Not sure if their insurance is going to cover this one.

Surely you’ve heard about the Pagani Zonda – the Italian ultra-supercar a step above Ferrari and Lamborghini’s finest machines. Pagani decided that the regular Zonda wasn’t crazy or exclusive enough, and created the Zonda Cinque – an ultra-rare supercar made with no compromises, of which only five will ever be made. And of course they’re spoken for.

Pagani decided that their roadcar model range “would not be complete without a Roadster version of the Zonda Cinque.” Of course not. The Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster sports the same 678hp Mercedes-sourced V12 engine found in the Cinque Coupe, which will propel you from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and only takes 6.2 more seconds to hit 124 mph.

The Roadster, just like the Cinque Coupe, uses Pagani’s proprietary carbon-titanium fiber, which is stronger and lighter than regular old carbon fiber. The chassis has been redesigned to keep structural integrity in the drop-top, and all weight reduction techniques have been used to keep the Roadster light. The adjustable suspension and multi-mode sequential gearbox give the Zonda Cinque Roadster “every day driveability.” Yeah right.

Again, only five of the Zonda Cinque Roadsters will be made, and will cost 1.3 million Euros, which right now is about $1.8 million USD. If you have the money, I suppose it’s a small price to pay to have one of these five beasts in your garage.

Wow, would you take a look at that.

These recently released renderings of the über Zonda R supercar are stroke-inducing, simply because the thought of owning one of these insane beasts sends the blood rocketing and pulsing through the brain. Just looking at that full carbon fiber body is causing my temples to pulse.

Well, maybe they’re not stroke-inducing, but ya gotta admit: that looks pretty damn nice. Maybe “nice” isn’t the right word. I’m thinking more along the lines of “pretty damn extreme”. I really like how Pagani is innovative and original with their designs, they aren’t copying anyone yet they can come up with something that knocks the socks off of most everything else. That’s the way car design should be, where every sketch is painfully original. Too many manufacturers these days are afraid of bold designs, so they stick with mimicking and not straying from the safe design path.

More info and pictures after the jump.

Source: Autoblog

Some more Zonda R info: it will supposedly be limited to only 10 examples, each costing around two million euros. Though it looks quite similar to the Zonda F, the R will share only 10% of the F’s content. Power will supposedly be supplied by a 6 liter AMG-sourced V12 behemoth.

So what do these pictures mean? Nothing really, save for the fact that this proves the Zonda R is one step closer to production. And remember: the Zonda R is supposed to be the craziest Pagani yet, meaning it will most likely not be street legal. I know, my heart cracked when I found that out too. The upside of that is the Zonda R’s performance will be completely beastly. Too bad you won’t be able to see one on the road.

Remember when Bugatti, way back in 2007, decided to make the ultra-expensive and ultra-exclusive even more expensive and exclusive? And came up with the Veyron Pur Sang, which was a beautiful thing with only five in the whole world? Well, it looks like Pagani is going that way too, with the five-run super-special Zonda Cinque.

Not too much has been released about this car, but what there is is interesting. The Zonda Cinque is a street legal version of the new Zonda R, which should make the lucky few who can own them even more happy. What’s also interesting about this car is the new goodies that will be featured on future Paganis: <!-more-->

First, there is this new carbon-titanium composite that was developed specifically for the Cinque by Pagani. From what I gather, it is lighter and stronger than carbon fiber, and will be used throughout the car. A new Cima sequential six speed transmission will also be present. A new titanium and magnesium composite suspension is included as well. The Cinque also has new rolling stock, in the form of forged monolock multiple piece wheels with titanium fasteners, all covered in extra-wide Pirelli PZeros. Beastly 15 inch Brembos complete that package.

Now to the engine. This monster is powered by an equally impressive 7.3 liter V12 that pumps out 678 stallions and 575 pound-feet of torque. Top speed is rated at around 217 mph, and it blasts to 60 in around 3.3 seconds.

God, I want one of these.

Controlling it all is a Bosch designed ABS and traction control, along with a race-style Automac sequential gearbox.

As for the interior, it is beautiful and pays exquisite attention to detail, just like it is in every Pagani. Carbon fiber trim and leather cover everything in tasteful applications. Four point seatbelts, roll bars, and custom Toora seats remind the driver of the Cinque’s racing heritage. All in all, it is fantastic.

Put it all together and you have yourself one fine, sweet ride.

Which is where we hit the snag.

The snag being the insane price of $1.5 million dollars, and the afore-mentioned limited run of only five in the world.

Ah, what the heck. If you have the money, then you get the perks.

In this case, a really, really nice (and oh so fast) perk.

Specs

Price: $1.5 million

Engine: 7.3 liter V12

Top Speed: 217 mph

Horsepower: 678

Torque: 575 pound-feet

0-60 mph: around 3.3 seconds

Mileage: (not available, but I’ll bet it’s really, really bad)

Back in March I wrote a post listing the 10 Fastest Cars in the World. It was hugely popular (and still is,) but I’ve received so many comments telling me that the list isn’t accurate anymore. I plan to do another comprehensive post on this in the future, but for now here is a quick update on the fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. On the last post, I also received a lot of comments about cars such as the Lingenfelter Corvette being faster. Just like the last list, this is only for production cars. Fastest cars in the world:

SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 256 mph

Horsepower: 1183

Torque: 1094lbs

On September 13th, 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero broke the official top speed world record, traveling 256.18 mph down a closed section of a Washington State highway. Impressive, considering the Ultimate Aero’s engine is only a twin-turbo V8 – half the size and turbo count of the Veyron below.

Bugatti Veyron

Top Speed: 253 mph

Horsepower: 1001

Torque: 479lbs

No introduction is needed for the amazing Bugatti Veyron. Powered by a W-16 style, quad-turbo engine, the Veyron is commonly considered the Ultimate Supercar.

Koenigsegg CCX

Top Speed: 250 mph

900 Horsepower

My personal favorite of the bunch, the Swedish Koenigsegg CCX is pure adrenaline. I’d probably give up a kidney to own one.

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Top Speed: 248 mph

750 Horsepower

The popular Mustang tuner Saleen has really made a name for themselves in the Supercar world with the amazing S7. The Twin-Turbo version really steps up their game. It should be exciting to see where they go from here.

McLaren F1

Top Speed: 240.14

620 Horsepower

Probably the most amazing car on the list, the McLaren F1 was first built over 13 years ago, and is still on this list.

Ferrari Enzo

Top Speed: 217 mph

657 Horsepower

I wonder how Ferrari felt when they sold the car for $660,000 new and were immediately sold second-hand for over $1.3 Million each.

Jaguar XJ220

Top Speed: 217 mph

549 Horsepower

Along with the McLaren F1, the Jaguar XJ220 has been around for a long time (1992,) and it’s amazing that it’s still on the list. Be sure to check out the Pininfarina version as well.

Pagani Zonda F

Top Speed: 215 mph

602 Horsepower

Right up there with the Koenigsegg on my “first cars I would own if I had the money” list, the Pagani Zonda F is one awesome car. The Zonda R is still close on the horizon, so expect to see the Pagani name higher up the next “fastest cars” list.

Hopefully that satisfies you all until the 2008 Fastest Cars list. Perhaps by then Pagani will build the Zonda R, McLaren will have made a decision on their next Supercar, and maybe Bugatti or Koenigsegg will decide it’s time to overtake the Ultimate Aero.

Ah, finally an update to the long-awaited next model from Pagani. Following the Zonda F, the Zonda R is shown to be made completely out of carbon fiber. When I first wrote about this car in March, the concept drawings looked different, but not dramatically different.

The Zonda R is said to have a 7.3-liter V12, pushing 750 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. It may look similar to the Zonda F, but it actually only shares about 10% of it’s parts. With the aerodynamic improvements, lighter weight and increased power, the R should be able to keep up with (or beat) the Ferrari\’s FXX and Maserati MC-12 track cars.

And it better be able to outrun the Ferrari and Maserati. With a price tag like $2.8 Million, you should be able to fly it.

So here we are, the list of the top 10 fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. All the cars you would expect are on the list, ranked from fastest to slowest (though calling any of these cars slow is blasphemy.) We start the list with the king of fast. Keep in mind this list only includes production cars. I’ve had a lot of comments mentioning faster cars, which aren’t actually in production.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Top Speed: 267.8 mph

1200 Horsepower

Not to let SSC’s Ultimate Aero supercar keep Bugatti in second place for long, the French supercar company slapped bigger turbos and intercoolers on their previous world record holding Veyron to produce a seriously impressive 1200 horsepower. The Veyron SS still houses the same 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, but now produces 200 more horsepower. To handle the extra speed and power, Bugatti also had to revise the chassis and suspension. Only 30 Veyron Super Sport models are expected to be produced. Interestingly, the 30 cars sold to the public will be electronically limited to “only” 258 mph.

Hennessey Venom GT

Top Speed: 265.7 mph

1244 Horsepower

The relative newcomer from Texas-based car tuner-made-manufacturer Hennessey is an impressive machine, to say the least. Sporting a twin turbo 7.0-liter V8 producing a massive 1,244 hp, the Venom GT beat a world record set by the Koenigsegg Agera R in February as being the fastest accelerating production car in the world when it did a run from 0-300 km/h in 13.63 seconds. That’s fast. Technically, the Venom GT is faster than the Bugatti Veyron above, because the production version of the Bugatti is limited to 258 mph from the factory, but since what’s official is official, we still have to put the Venom below the Veyron. But only for now; Hennessey claims that given a longer track (this one was 2.9 miles long and Bugatti had 5.6 miles to hit their speed,) the Venom GT can hit over 275 mph. Plus, if you have $1.2 million, a Venom GT can still be yours.

SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 256 mph

1183 Horsepower

Boutique supercar maker Shelby Super Cars (SSC) unleashed the Ultimate Aero in 2007, destroying the more expensive Bugatti Veyron’s top speed record. The car in question was a 2007 model – since then, SSC has upgraded the Aero to include an all-new twin-turbo V8 engine (half the size of the Veyron,) producing 1287 hp, giving the car a theoretical top speed of 290 mph. Nope, that’s not a typo. It’s also theoretical. SSC says given a long enough road, they could get the car up to 270 mph. That would break the Veyron’s record again, but let’s see if they ever get around to it.

Koenigsegg CCXR

Top Speed: 250 mph

1018 Horsepower

Although the Koenigsegg CCR broke the top speed record in 2005 on a totally unfair circular track, the updated CCXR has a better engine, aerodynamics, and, well, pretty much everything else. I’d love to see the Swedish company get this out on the VW test track, which is the same track on which the Veyron was tested (and a straight line, not a circle.)

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Top Speed: 248 mph

750 Horsepower

Saleen’s first car not based on an existing model, the S7 supercar grabbed a lot of attention when it was released in 2000. An updated Twin-Turbo model followed shortly afterward, providing 750 hp and a 248 mph top speed. Saleen offers a competition package increasing power to 1000 hp, which brings the top speed up to a rumored 260 mph. Interest has dropped for the S7, but if they can come back and claim a top speed close to Bugatti and SSC, we might see some more of Saleen’s supercar in the near future.

McLaren F1

Top Speed: 240.14

627 Horsepower

Can you believe this? The McLaren F1 was made in 1994, and it’s still one of the fastest cars in the world. This happens to be the first car on this list I would purchase if I had the cash. Produced from 1993 to 1998, the F1 still sells for well over $1 million each, and I have a feeling it will only appreciate over the years. This is a timeless car and will remain on the all-time greatest car list for decades to come. Even though it’s no longer the fastest production car in the world anymore, it’s still the fastest naturally-aspirated road car in the world, sporting a special 6.1-liter V12 capable of biting your head off.

Ferrari Enzo

Top Speed: 226 mph

651 Horsepower

Ferrari’s most recent mega-car seems to have people crashing it left and right, but the drivers always walk away fine (physically.) With only 400 Enzos ever made, the value of the car goes up with each wreck. Sporting a naturally-aspirated 6.0-liter V12, the Enzo is beginning to show its age, but remains one of the fastest cars in the world. Until Ferrari’s next mega-ultra-super-duper-car, of course.

Aston Martin One-77

Top Speed: 220 mph

750 Horsepower

The newest entry in our list, the Aston Martin One-77 is a very limited edition (only 77 made, who’d have thought?) supercar. Originally the top speed was estimated at a relatively paltry 200 mph but later tests confirmed a top speed of 220.007 mph. The 3,307 lb car can rocket from zero to sixty in 3.5 seconds thanks to its 750 horsepower, 7.3-liter V12 engine and six-speed automated manual gearbox.

Pagani Zonda F Clubsport

Top Speed: 215 mph

640 Horsepower

Powered by a 7.3-liter AMG-built V12, the 640 horsepower Pagani Zonda F Clubsport created ripples in the car community when it lapped the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife test track in only 7:24.7 seconds. A very impressive car – I’m actually confused as to why it’s not higher on the list, although Pagani claims that without the car’s aerodynamic equipment (added to increase cornering ability,) the Zonda F Clubsport would have a top speed of 220 mph.

Jaguar XJ220

Top Speed: 213 mph

549 Horsepower

Even older than the McLaren F1, the Jaguar XJ220 has been on this list since 1992. Sporting a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, the XJ220…wait…a 3.5-liter V6? 217 mph in 1992? That’s some seriously impressive engineering. Be sure to check out the Pininfarina version as well.

Pushed off the Top 10 List:

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV – 213 mph
Porsche Carrera GT – 209 mph
McLaren Mercedes SLR – 207 mph

Wow. Sketches of Pagani’s newest car have surfaced. It’s called the Zonda R, and will be debuted at the Geneva Auto Show. The car will likely cost over $1.5 million, and there’s no word on how many will be made. It was made at the request of a current lucky bastard owner of 3 Zondas.

The new Zonda will be powered by a 750 horsepower V12 derived from the Mercedes CLK GTR, and have 523 ft-lbs of torque. For reference, the ridiculously fast Zonda F makes 594 horsepower. The release of this new car is surely a competitive response to Ferrari’s FXX and the Maserati MC-12, as this will be a track-only car. As you can see, the Zonda R is lighter, longer, lower, and likely wider than the current Zonda F, and only shares 10% of it’s parts. It also has some very nice aerodynamic improvements that plants the car firmly to the ground.
