Opel, a German manufacturer, founded by Adam Opel in 1882, first produced sewing machines, then switched to manufacturing bicycles in 1886 and finally built its first automobile in 1899. General Motors purchased the automaker in 1929, owning it until it sold the company to the French automaker Groupe PSA in 2017.
Currently headquartered in Germany, Opel designs, manufactures, and distributes their vehicles, along with its English sister company Vauxhall to over 60 countries around the world.
