SEMA 2008: Lamborghini Gallardo Twin-Turbo

Lamborghini Gallardo TT

Underground Racing showed off their Lamborghini Gallardo Twin Turbo at SEMA 2008. Being one of the fastest Gallardos in the world, this Lambo has a quarter-mile time of only 9.9 seconds at 161.8 MPH.

Upgrades to the Gallardo include twin billet turbos, forged pistons, Penske suspension, K&N air filter, HRE wheels, air/water intercooler, among more things. This kit from Underground Racing starts at $54,000 to bring your Gallardo up to 900 horsepower, and goes up to around $60,000 for the 1200 HP option.

Turns out this Gallardo (the same one that was at SEMA) is on sale for $225,000 on eBay.

SEMA 2008: Ugliest Mustang Ever?

ugly-mustang.jpg

You know, when a living, breathing, thinking human being does this to a car, any car, it gets me wondering how we as a species ever managed to dominate the little planet called Earth.

It gets even worse when I realize that said moron has committed a crime of this magnitude to a Mustang….

Sigh.

Rich Evans Designs are the ones who are responsible, and they must be proud of their “Hardcore Knight” because this is the second time SEMA’s exhibits have been defiled by this travesty. What’s worse, this thing is actually for sale, and in “limited edition” as well.

SEMA 2008: Camaro LS7 Concept

camaro-ls7-1.jpg

This is what happens when you combine a modern muscle car with some good ol’ nostalgia.

The LS7 Concept was inspired by the COPO Camaros of the late 1960s. For those who are unfamiliar with the “COPO” designation, it was made famous by motorheads like Don Yenko in the late 60s. What happened was you could walk into any Chevy dealership and decide you wanted a COPO Camaro for drag racing. You checked the box, and a beastly race-bred Camaro was yours, fitted out with the requisite goods like drag racing tires, the standard safety equipment, suspension, roll bars, basically all you needed to dominate those puttering Mustangs at the track.

As is self evident, the LS7 badge means that GM has decided to stick a big, fat, 550 horsepower middle finger to the evironment, the economy, and all those advocators of GM’s and the muscle car’s deaths. GM has also thrown in a 6-speed Tremec manual transmission, a Hurst shifter, Brembo brakes all-around, performance exhaust, 20 inch wheels, and lowered ride height.

Keep in mind that the Chevrolet Camaro is the official car of SEMA this year, so stay tuned for more Camaro concepts.

SEMA 2008: HKS tunes Hyundai Genesis Coupe

hks-genesis.jpg

Hyundai is experiencing something of a revolution nowadays, because for the first time, the Korean manufacturer has made an attempt at sportiness and have come up with a winning formula.

Meaning lots of people like the car. There are several aftermarket companies competing with one another in the form of their Genesis Coupes, HKS is one of them.

Starting off a 2.0 liter turbocharged Coupe, HKS added a GT2835R turbo upgrade, a stainless tubular manifold, a custom intercooler, carbon fiber air box and exhaust, and a sequential blow off valve. A HKS Hipermax III coilover suspension upgrades, and a complete and functional aerodynamic body kit designed by Ken Style complete this aftermarket attempt by HKS to make the Genesis Coupe a worthy choice for tuner mavens.

SEMA 2008: Hyundai Genesis Coupe by Street Concepts

street-genesis.jpg

I think that this is a nice example of how enthusiasm in the form of aftermarket tuning can go a little too far.

I don’t want to completely knock the look of the thing, for I believe that the Street Concepts team just got a little carried away and forgot such words as “sensible”, “usable”, and “boy-racer”. Then again, this is SEMA, which is perhaps why it does not look so out fo place: hell, it even looks downright bland in comparison to some others.

The Stealth Fighter black camo paint job kind of did it for me, I mean, can you imagine driving around in this? The bright red “Hyundai” badge is a little weird, and the bright orange headlights somehow scream “cheap tuner” to me. Also, the random stickers just look out of place.

“Big Dawg”? Come on guys, you can do better than that. The “Danger” sticker pointing towards the exhaust is kinda pathetic as well.

I’m a fan of the tinted back lights though, and I’m always a fan of performance enhancements to a 3.8 liter V-6, in this case a K&N cold air intake and a Magnaflow cat back exhaust.

Interior modifications are more focused on showing off than functionality, but it still is nice: Recaro sport seats, black suede accents, and a custom Infinity audio system finish round the package off.
