Saleen Raptor Concept

Looks like Saleen was serious about the supercar business. First came the awesome S7 and S7 TT, which is still one of the fastest cars in the world. To many though, the S7 was too big and too…umm…fishy, with all those gills all over the car.

Now it seems Saleen’s next supercar venture will be the Raptor - a smaller, much more modern-looking exotic. While it does mirror the looks of a few other fast cars on the road, all but the rear of the car is very attractive. Not that it’s ugly, it’s just…very 80’s looking: Continue Reading…

Back in March I wrote a post listing the 10 Fastest Cars in the World. It was hugely popular (and still is,) but I’ve received so many comments telling me that the list isn’t accurate anymore. I plan to do another comprehensive post on this in the future, but for now here is a quick update on the fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. On the last post, I also received a lot of comments about cars such as the Lingenfelter Corvette being faster. Just like the last list, this is only for production cars:

SSC Ultimate Aero

SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 256 mph

Horsepower: 1183

Torque: 1094lbs

On September 13th, 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero broke the official top speed world record, traveling 256.18 mph down a closed section of a Washington State highway. Impressive, considering the Ultimate Aero’s engine is only a twin-turbo V8 - half the size and turbo count of the Veyron below. Continue Reading…

Saleen Mustang S281RF

Saleen announced they will be releasing a special edition Mustang only available to 100 lucky customers who have an extra $49,995 burning a hole in their pocket. Available in black or alloy, the Saleen S281 RF will boast 465 horsepower from a supercharged SOHC 4.6L V8. All the power gets to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.

Additional performance enhancements include an upgraded CPU, new MAF sensor, and a dual-stage intercooler. The air comes in through a high-flow air intake and filter, and exits through a 2.5″ stainless steel exhaust system. Suspension improvements come from added coil springs and sway bars.

There are many other enhancements provided by Saleen; check out the official specs below: Continue Reading…

VCars brings up a list of the top 10 fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. I’ll go over the list briefly, but be sure to visit VCars’ list for more info and pictures. All the cars you would expect are on the list, ranked from fastest to slowest (though calling any of these cars slow is blasphemy.) We start the list with the king of fast.

Update: I’d like to clarify that this list only includes production cars. I’ve had a lot of comments mentioning the Lingenfelter Corvette, etc being faster, but that ultra-fast Vette is not in production. I’d also like to clear up that this list was created on March 30th, 2007. The SSC Ultimate Aero has since broken the record as the fastest production car in the world, and I plan to address this in my next list. Be sure to subscribe to the AutomoBlog RSS Feed to stay up-to-date.

Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti Veyron

Top Speed: 252.2 mph

1001 Horsepower

No surprises here, the fastest and most powerful production car ever makes the top of the list. I wonder when Koenigsegg will decide to take the #1 position and beef up the CCX.

Saleen Mustang Special Edition

I’ve been a pretty big fan of the Saleen Mustangs for a while now, but the 2005-current versions have been anything but exciting, until now. There will only be 25 of these made total. The 25th will be given to the winner of the Great American Run, and the other 24 will be sold only to participants of the Cannonball World event. 11 have already been sold.

“Surprising” specifications are an understatement here. With 600 horsepower, this Mustang can do 0-60 in under four seconds, and has a top speed of 200mph! Whether or not a Mustang can handle the 600 horsepower is a different question. I can’t wait to see the final specs on this beast; they’re bound to be very impressive. Plus it’s really sexy looking. I don’t think they’ll have a problem selling all of these, I don’t care how much they cost. Anyway, if you want to enter the race, it’s $10,000 and there are only 400 spots available. Better hurry!

Lamorghini Bull Pacifier

Ferrari…Lamborghini…Aston Martin? These are all child’s play when you put them next to a hyper-car; a different breed of supercar exclusively for the ultra-rich, usually costing over $350,000 or so. Ferrari makes one (the Enzo) and so does Porsche (Carrera GT,) but usually they are from car makers with names you don’t hear in normal conversation. Almost always made in very limited editions, you cannot turn to your car dealers or normal car review websites for information regarding these fantastic machines.

So for those who are familiar with these cars, how do you keep up on the news regarding them? Well, you turn here of course, at AutomoBlog.net :P Anyway, what’s the news on these cars? Read on…
