Top 10 Fastest Cars in the World

So here we are, the list of the top 10 fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. All the cars you would expect are on the list, ranked from fastest to slowest (though calling any of these cars slow is blasphemy.) We start the list with the king of fast.

Update: I’d like to clarify that this list only includes production cars. I’ve had a lot of comments mentioning the Lingenfelter Corvette, etc being faster, but that ultra-fast Vette is not in production. I’d also like to clear up that this list was created on March 30th, 2007.

The SSC Ultimate Aero has since broken the record as the fastest production car in the world, and I plan to address this in my next list. Be sure to subscribe to the Automoblog RSS Feed or free email newsletter to stay up-to-date.

Top Speed: 252.2 mph

1001 Horsepower

No surprises here, the fastest and most powerful production car ever makes the top of the list. I wonder when Koenigsegg will decide to take the #1 position and beef up the CCX.

Pagani Zonda R Preview at Geneva

Pagani Zonda R side

Wow. Sketches of Pagani’s newest car have surfaced. It’s called the Zonda R, and will be debuted at the Geneva Auto Show. The car will likely cost over $1.5 million, and there’s no word on how many will be made. It was made at the request of a current lucky bastard owner of 3 Zondas.

The new Zonda will be powered by a 750 horsepower V12 derived from the Mercedes CLK GTR, and have 523 ft-lbs of torque. For reference, the ridiculously fast Zonda F makes 594 horsepower. The release of this new car is surely a competitive response to Ferrari’s FXX and the Maserati MC-12, as this will be a track-only car. As you can see, the Zonda R is lighter, longer, lower, and likely wider than the current Zonda F, and only shares 10% of it’s parts. It also has some very nice aerodynamic improvements that plants the car firmly to the ground.

Must See: Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Pagani Factory Tours

While in Italy, a user over at bcsportbikes.com was lucky enough to take tours of the Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Pagani factories. On the tour, he took a lot of pictures and was kind enough to share them with us. There are also a couple of videos worth checking out. One of a Lamborghini LP640, and another of the Ferrari FXX on Ferrari’s own Fiorano test track.

Lamborghini Showroom

He took some excellent pictures of the whole tour, with explanations and details. Anybody who is a fan of the Italian exotic cars must take a look at these. Sadly, he wasn’t allowed to take pictures of the manufacturing floor in any of the plants, but he does briefly explain his experience on the floor. One of the coolest parts (in my opinion,) is the Lamborghini Museum, which is the first set of pictures. You get to see all of the Lamborghinis ever made, including some that weren’t. It also gives a great history of Lamborghini that is very interesting to see. In the Pagani factory he even notices something that hints at a new (not Zonda) supercar!

Anyway, go check out the Factory Tours Post. And for your sake, I hope you have a fast internet connection!

2007 Hyper-Cars: What’s New?

Lamorghini Bull Pacifier

Ferrari…Lamborghini…Aston Martin? These are all child’s play when you put them next to a hyper-car; a different breed of supercar exclusively for the ultra-rich, usually costing over $350,000 or so. Ferrari makes one (the Enzo) and so does Porsche (Carrera GT,) but usually they are from car makers with names you don’t hear in normal conversation. Almost always made in very limited editions, you cannot turn to your car dealers or normal car review websites for information regarding these fantastic machines.

So for those who are familiar with these cars, how do you keep up on the news regarding them? Well, you turn here of course, at AutomoBlog.net :P Anyway, what’s the news on these cars? Read on…
