Unsurprisingly assembled with literally gloved hands, an auto manufacturer’s supercar is often characterized by limited production numbers and a high price tag. A cost that would be considered extremely outrageous for the majority of everyday motorists, supercars naturally cater to the social and financial elite. While these specialized vehicles often fill the extrinsic as well as intrinsic expectations for luxury and image, even the rare automotive supercar creations is not enough to fulfill their reality.

Making exclusive vehicles into even more limited pieces of motoring mastery, some companies wait on the individuals willing to acquire an enhanced performance luxury car. Often defined as small automotive constructors based on the level of vehicle modifications, almost any popular supercar can be ratcheted-up beyond the original factory.

STaSIS Audi R8 V-10 Challenge Extreme Edition

Born on a V-10 powered Audi R8, West Virginia performance house STaSIS Engineering has turned the already feisty German supercar into a vehicle that can run circles around the Audi rings. A vehicle first presented at the 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the STaSIS Audi R8 5.2 Challenge Extreme Edition tests the widest boundaries for reengineering the mid-engined two-seater. Outfitted with a height adjustable suspension, Alcon brakes and forged 20-inch ultra-lightweight aluminum wheels, the STaSIS Audi R8 V-10 Challenge Extreme Edition vehicle attractive touches are all functional.

The most substantial improvement to the Audi R8 V-10 has major performance tweaks added to the 5.2 liter ten-cylinder powerplant. STaSIS Engineering modifications for the Audi R8 V-10 Challenge Extreme Edition engine is topped by an Eaton / Magnusson TVS 2300 supercharger generating 7.5 PSI of boost pressure. Coupled with engine electronic remapping and a CNC machined intake plenum, 525 horsepower of the factory Audi R8 V-10 is swelled to 710 horsepower through the Challenge Extreme Edition changes.

Netting a 35% greater power level than the stock supercar, the STaSIS Audi R8 Challenge Extreme Edition applies this extra momentum to 0 to 60 mile per hour acceleration times of just 3.1 seconds. The Audi R8 5.2 Challenge Extreme Edition adds $55,995 up to the price of Audi R8 V-10 coupe or roadster.

BMW Alpina B7 BiTurbo

Alpina’s business relationship with BMW started in the 1970s when the eventual car manufacturer operated as a sports car race team. Fielding the BMW 3.0 CSL in competition, Alpina brought their collaboration with BMW to the streets in the 1980s.

While the BMW M division attracts the most attention among enthusiasts, the Alpina B7 BiTurbo supplements the absence of BMW 7 Series version in the M line-up. In its fourth-generation, the Alpina B7 BiTurbo is a super sedan balancing high-performance, electronic ingenuity and luxury comfort. Incorporating its own LAVALINA leather and available piano lacquer interior trim, the performance sedan features a loaded assortment of BMW 7 Series equipment. Parking Distance Control, navigation system, xenon headlamps and control display with iDrive are included on the Alpina B7 BiTurbo.

Distinguishing the Alpina B7 BiTurbo is unique front and rear spoiler pieces as well as some of the most beautiful 21-inch Alpina Classic lightweight wheels. Powered by a 504 horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V-8 engine, an all-wheel drive version of the Alpina B7 BiTurbo is also available to move the sedan. In the United States, pricing for the 2011 Alpina B7 resides at $122,875 for the rear wheel drive or $126,775 for an all-wheel drive model.

Admirable to buyers, the Alpina B7 BiTurbo is also a vehicle appreciated by source company BMW. Sold through authorized BMW dealerships, the German auto company continues to protect 7 Series derivative.

RUF RGT-8

<script type="text/javascript"

A packing a lightweight 4.5 liter V-8 engine, the RUF RGT-8 burns pavement with 550 horsepower fed through the rear wheels. An automatic limited-slip differential insures Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires rotate the stylish 19-inch forged alloy wheels. While official performance figures have yet to be released on this 2012 model vehicle, the RUF RGT-8 has a forecasted top speed of 205 miles per hour.

The two-seat interior features a securing protection of a roll-cage structure. Auto racing-inspired interior touches; RUF has also conducted the honoured tradition of weight-savings through the application of aluminum door panels and a carbon fiber rear engine cover.

While the architecture of the RUF RGT-8 is clearly identified with the Porsche 911, RUF Automotive acknowledges themselves as a small auto manufacturer distinct from the German sports car company’s image.

Edo Competition LP750

Outfitting a wide range of vehicles, Edo Competition has modified BMW M5 Touring wagons, Porsche 997s and even Maserati MC12 supercars. From the Lamborghini Murcielago, the Edo Competition LP750 was created this past February. Meant to be the fastest Lamborghini Murcielago ever, the Edo Competition LP750 is shaped with specially-contoured aerodynamic panels. A redesigned rear spoiler and ultra lightweight alloy wheels are worn on the Edo Competition LP750 providing a stylish extension of Lamborghini performance.

Speaking of performance, the Edo Competition LP750 receives a healthy power boost to the 6.5 liter V-12 engine. Totalling 750 horsepower, the special Lamborghini supercar presented by Edo Competition soars from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 3.1 seconds. The Edo Competition LP750 takes just 24.5 seconds for a rush to 186 miles per hour from a standing stop.

As the Aventador replaces the Lamborghini Murcielago as the Italian sports car builder’s flagship, it only seems reasonable to believe an after-factory preparation of the new generation supercar is only a matter of months away.

Brabus 700 BiTurbo

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG immediately impressed with its late 2010 introduction as a spiritual recreation of the 1955 SL300 Gull Wing. The first Mercedes-Benz production vehicle to originate from the AMG speed lab, the supercar arrived with prime performance attributes. Despite the stock SLS AMG’s 563 horsepower and a 197-mile per hour top speed, aftermarket companies have found ways to further dress up the Mercedes-Benz supercar. Long-time Mercedes-Benz outfitter Brabus was one company that quickly issued their exploration of the SLS AMG peak performance.

Lifting horsepower to 700 horsepower by adding a twin-turbocharger system to the 6.3 liter V-8 engine, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is turned into the Brabus 700 BiTurbo. While the stock SLS AMG’s 0 to 60 mile per hour acceleration of 3.7 seconds remains largely unchanged, the Brabus 700 BiTurbo’s enhancements come at the top end. Unlimited top speed potential of 700 horsepower allows this Brabus supercar to sail up to 213 miles per hour.

Besides the advantages of raw horsepower, the Brabus 700 BiTurbo supercar is suited for a dramatic motoring experience. Possessing a special high performance exhaust featuring a pneumatic flap, the driver can adjust the engine note for a more civilized purr or a full grunt roar. The Brabus 700 BiTurbo can also be opted with the WIDESTAR body conversion kit adding additional genuine carbon fiber pieces on the exterior and interior.

Priced at the equivalent of $349,690 in US money, the Brabus 700 BiTurbo is a rocket ride left affordable to only a few land-based pilots.

Information source: Alpina, Brabus, edo competition, RUF Automobile GmbH, STaSIS Engineering
Photo source: Alpina, BMW USA, edo competition, RUF Automobile GmbH, STaSIS Engineering

Related posts:

Supercar Sensation Review – Drive 3 Supercars for $300

Mini Supercars – A Photo Gallery

Super Sexy: The KICHERER SLS Supersport GT

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

edo competition Creates Dark Edition on BMW M5 Touring

BMW

Car News

Edo

Modified cars

BMW M5

BMW M5 Dark Edition

Dark Edition

Edo Competition

estate wagon

M5 Touring

Fans of the Bavarian auto company are currently celebrating the latest M iteration of the 5 Series on BMW’s F10 platform. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Fans of the Bavarian auto company are currently celebrating the latest M iteration of the 5 Series on BMW’s F10 platform. Producing more factory horses than ever seen prior on the M5, the 560-horsepower BMW has improved engine output with a more compact powerplant. Dropping in a special TwinPower 4.4 liter, V-8 engine, BMW has set aside the once-mighty V-10 that delivered raw horsepower as a normally aspirated power unit. Though there will definitely be seekers to the newer, more efficient twin-turbocharged engine, favourites could be played for the now obsolete BMW M5 by cylinder counting enthusiasts.

As the BMW factory has upped the game for the new M5, influences outside of the Stuttgart will be giving the V-10 engined E60-type M5 another hurrah. Created out of the BMW M5 Touring (an estate wagon having never crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Europe), Germany’s edo competition brought light to the 2005 to 2010 model car with a host of modifications. Through a shining performance machine, edo competition defines their newest tuner vehicle as the BMW M5 Dark Edition.

Coated with a stunning but sinister black paint, edo competition accessorized the former M5 Touring’s exterior with a unique front and rear valance. On the wagon’s tailgate, a rear wing has been mounted along roof height. Completing the mysterious look, the BMW M5 Dark Edition receives black-painted 20-inch light alloy wheels.

Bringing the V-10 powerplant almost up to the 2012 BMW M5’s performance level, edo competition has rigged the BMW M5 Dark Edition with 555 horsepower. Only 5 horses shy of tying the new BMW car, the BMW M5 Dark Edition is 55 horsepower above the factory preparation of the 5-liter V-10 engine. Accompanied with 413 pounds-feet of torque, the V-10 engine’s newfound power boost comes from a recalibrated engine ECU, high-flow air filters and a performance exhaust system. With four chrome pipes accented by the rear skirt, the BMW M5 Dark Edition’s exhaust is funnelled out in aggression.

Translating the 555 horsepower generated from the V-10 engine, the edo competition’s BMW M5 Dark Edition track performance is sent through rear wheel drive. Rolling the 20-inch wheels on Dunlop tires, the 0 to 62 mile per hour acceleration times for the M5 Dark Edition is accomplished in 5 seconds flat. Half a second faster than the stock BMW M5, the edo competition-prepared Dark Edition is 5 seconds faster compared to the factory BMW accelerating from 62 to 124 miles per hour. Another electronic modification to the performance of the BMW M5 Dark Edition has the removal of the factory’s top speed limiter. Now completely unleashed, the edo competition-tuned, V-10 powered BMW M5 can storm up to 190 miles per hour

Already presented with a most suitable interior provided through the BMW M range, edo competition has used the finest carbon fiber and leather materials to make their Dark Edition a cut above the factory car. Within the dash cluster, a 360 kilometer per hour (223.7 mile per hour) speedometer is worn among some special edo competition guages. Unlike most tuner cars, 5 passengers and loads of cargo capacity is a touch the BMW M5 Dark Edition buyers could use to persuade their practical mindedness.

Fulfilling their vehicle orders in an Ahlen, Germany facility, the BMW M5 Dark Edition is only the latest project undertaken by edo competition Motorsport GmbH. Some of the tuner company’s most recent vehicle modifications took place on the Lamborghini Murciélago (the edo competition LP750) and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (called the SLR Black Arrow). As a performance house, edo competition equally considers out of production vehicles such as the Ferrari Enzo and the Ford GT for recent modifications, infusing new life in vehicles that once modeled for car magazine cover.

A hot rod grocery-getter, the edo competition BMW M5 could also present a minor annoyance when police radar guns will be fixed on the vehicle’s travels.

Information and photo source: edo competition Motorsport GmbH

Related posts:

Dark Performance Territory: The Porsche 911 Black Edition

Edo Competition Mercedes C63

edo competition Gallardo LP600/4

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Mercedes Benz Supercar Revisited: Edo SLR Black Arrow

Car News

Edo

McLaren

Mercedes-Benz

Edo SLR Black Arrow

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

Supercar

Created in 2003, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren represented one of the most potent supercars thanks to a partnership between two major speed shops. Stoked in 2000 when Mercedes-Benz connected themselves to the McLaren Formula 1 team by obtaining 40% ownership into the operation, the SLR McLaren was the street-going expression of a relationship working well. A grouping that worked through the first decade of the 21st century, Mercedes-Benz chose to enter Formula 1 with their own factory racing team divesting themselves of the ownership interest in the McLaren F1 organization.

The start up of the Mercedes-GP team had also coincided with the end of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren’s production run. For what will be likely the one and only collaboration between the German car builder and the British engineering company, the silver lining (pardon the pun) comes with the creation of a supercar by each company. McLaren introduces their mid-engined MP4-12C as a 2012 car while The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG came to reality for 2011. However, while the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren’s production run is over, Edo Competition sees the full performance potential of the historic mergence was not completely exploited.

The Edo SLR Black Arrow is the grandest presentation of the joint Mercedes-Benz/McLaren supercar. Painted with a flat black tone, the Edo SLR Black Arrow is revealed wearing ‘722’ numbering and striping. A number significant to Mercedes-Benz sports car racing, Sir Sterling Moss drove a #722 Mercedes-Benz to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia. On this Edo version, the ’722′ takes on a different meaning. Within high-performance tires, special Edo 21-inch wheels are painted black to match the exterior shade. A tasteful accent of red frames the Edo wheel rim’s spoke detail. If a customer wishes a different colour of wheels, Edo can custom paint the wheels by request.

Outfitting their modified Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren at their Ahlen, Germany facility, Edo Competition applied the major changes to the supercar’s powertrain. Working over an already powerful supercharged 5.5 liter V-8, Edo summons 72 additional horsepower beyond the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren’s Sterling Moss model. Modifying the engine’s supercharger and electronic control unit, the Edo SLR Black Arrow also benefits from a high performance exhaust system matched with high flow catalytic converters to achieve 722 horsepower (answering the usage of ’722′ numbering on the exterior). Thanks to the Edo SLR Black Arrow’s 656 pounds-feet of torque, the modified supercar launches from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds (rated 0.3 seconds than the stock SLR McLaren model). The Edo SLR Black Arrow’s top speed is also heightened over the stock SLR McLaren improving by 6 miles per hour. Still electronically limited, 214 miles per hour is granted through a firm press on the supercar’s accelerator.

Not only a mover, the Edo SLR Black Arrow shakes up the supercar with high-tech goodies. Edo adds a custom surround sound system that provides ample enjoyment of a center console multimedia unit. Feeding not only navigational and rear view camera images to the driver, entertainment coming from iPod compatible stereo or a TV tuner is in place. Interior aesthetics appropriately caters the performance seeker by furnishing carbon fiber accents around the cabin. Seating of the Edo SLR Black Arrow is a blend of leather and alcantara providing both luxury as well as sport. Alcantara covers the steering wheel and shifter provides a thrilling feel of race car-like touch inside the SLR Black Arrow.

The exact price of the Edo SLR Back Arrow is not mentioned but the current value of a 2007 Mercedes-Benz SLR (the last year of the 722 coupe version) runs at $449,000 according to NADA Guides. Certain to add value to an already valuable supercar, Edo Competition’s advancements will be at least one more time to witness the greatness of cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren.

Information and photo source: Edo Competition

Related posts:

Mercedes-Benz Announces C63 AMG Black Edition – Fastest C-Class Yet

Video of Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Hamann Volcano

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, More Than A Pretty Face

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

edo Koenigsegg CCR Evolution

Car News

Edo

Koenigsegg

CCR

CCX

Evolution

Just a few years ago, a relatively new supercar maker, Koenigsegg, came onto the scene and broke the top speed record for the fastest production car in the world with the CCR. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Just a few years ago, a relatively new supercar maker, Koenigsegg, came onto the scene and broke the top speed record for the fastest production car in the world with the CCR. The Swedish brand has since developed faster and faster cars, and still holds the title of one of the fastest cars in the world.

And what is the next logical step when dealing with one of the fastest cars in the world? Make it faster, of course!

German tuner edo competition has a reputation of making super-fast cars even faster, and their latest victim is the Koenigsegg CCR. How did it start? Turns out a current CCR owner got power-envy of the newer Koenigsegg CCX line, and was unhappy with his measly 806 horsepower. After visiting edo, he left with a car that’s faster, more drivable, and looks more like the CCX.

To make the changes, edo contacted Koenigsegg themselves to help out with the modifications of the drive ratio and ECU remapping. After focusing on the setup of the two superchargers, they made sure that they could produce maximum power while giving it a broader torque range across the powerband, hitting maximum torque earlier and actually decreasing the rev limiter to 7200 RPM. The new tune allows the V8 engine to produce up to 891 horsepower now – not a bad increase for just a few modifications.

They also modified the transmission to help with smoother shifts by disassembling the entire thing and replacing the plastic bushings with Uniball units. Additional performance changes include better brakes, more stability, with a top speed that is actually reduced slightly (but really, who’s going to hit 242 mph?) in the name of increased acceleration. I’d say it’s a good trade-off.

A few changes were made on the exterior to keep the car looking modern. They painted the existing wheels charcoal, gave the front-end a new bumper with fog lights, and fitted the interior with a new Pioneer entertainment system, Alcantara, and a redesigned center console.

With the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 Super Veloce out of production last November and the Aventador set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor show, you might have thought you heard the last of the Murcielago.

But as it turns out, that isn’t the case. If any tuning company can bring the Murcielago back into the limelight, its Edo Competition. The company set their sights on the LP640 before, over a year and a half ago when it produced the fastest Murcielago in the world. Now the German tuner is setting its sights on the car one last time, offering up the LP750.

The modifications start where the previous car left off. Last time, Edo’s worked over LP640 produced 710 horsepower and 516 pound feet of torque. Those figures were good enough for a top speed of 219 mph at the Papenburg test track. That is a record that has yet to be broken.

A new aerodynamics package and redesigned rear wing hint at the changes underneath with the LP750. It looks quite mean with its black and green exterior finish that isn’t over the top.

As its name implies, the new cars gets a bump in power to 750 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. Those are figures that look to beat the Murcielago’s replacement, and with specs like this it isn’t hard to see why: 227 mph top speed, 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds, 124 mph in 9.7 seconds and 186 mph in a startling 24.5 seconds.

To wring the extra 110 horsepower over the standard car’s 6.5-liter V-12, Edo installed a high-flow airbox and reengineered cylinder heads, while adding a laundry list of components developed from the ground up for use in this car. They include high performance exhaust headers, high flow catalytic converters, more aggressive camshafts, bucket tappets, mufflers, exhaust tips and high flow air filters.

To help the engine breath better and increase power, Edo designed an all-new intake system with a handmade intake manifold and air ducts. The car’s electronic control unit (ECU) was also reprogrammed to handle the extra power.

To boot, Edo offers the ability to convert the car from its standard all-wheel drive setup to rear-wheel drive. Doing so offers a weight savings of 88 pounds. With all that power though, we think we’d stick with the all-wheel drive system. Modifications will take place in Ahlen Germany, where Edo Competition is located.

Related posts:

Edo Competition Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Oakley Design Tunes Lamborghini Aventador, Calls it LP760-2

Edo Competition Lamborghini Murcièlago LP710 /2

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

edo competition DBS – A luxury sports car

Aston Martin

Car News

Edo

DBS

edo competition has always seemed to be a little bit different for a German tuning firm. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

edo competition has always seemed to be a little bit different for a German tuning firm. The Ahlen-based outfit tunes something other than just German cars, for one thing. Take for example their latest project: Having a serious go at Aston Martin’s DBS.

Of course, like seemingly all German tuning firms, edo competition has to do something funny with their name. In edo’s case, they have to go all e.e. cummings and their name is in all lower case. That aside, what about their take on the Aston flagship?

They started off pretty far up the mountain. The Aston Martin DBS already produces 517 horsepower from its 12-cylinder residing under its front bonnet. That’s enough for the British beast to top out at more than 300 km/h (186 mph). So what did edo do?

edo got into the engine control unit and modified the software and also added a new exhaust system, special catalytic converters and high flow air filters. So the power output was bumped up to an impressive 550 hp and 600 Nm (442 ft-lb). Allowing the edo competition DBS to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and now top out at 320 km/h (199 mph).

edo seems to be especially proud of the exhaust layout. The exhaust system incorporates butterfly valves allowing it to tune the engine note, and the power and torque output, on the fly. The exhaust comes with a programmable control system that monitors backpressure inside the exhaust and opens the 70 mm butterfly valves when a pre-determined level of backpressure is exceeded. The advantage of the system is that it provides better torque at low engine speeds without sacrificing top end horsepower. The exhaust system is made from stainless steel (natch) and has chromed exhaust tips (just as natch). The driver can adjust the sound of the DBS at any time using a remote control. This reminds me of something that I’ve seen other tuners and manufacturers starting to do, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more systems like it in the future. I’m not saying I condone it, exactly, but I understand it.

Naturally, edo competition worked the suspension too. Unlike the exhaust, which they allow the customer to fiddle with on the fly, any time, day or night, edo implies in their presser that although the suspension is tunable, they set it to the customer’s specs and then leave it at that. Which strikes me as a very smart thing to do. The suspension system is adjustable in height, compression and rebound damping, and it can be “matched to the customer’s driving style.”

Naturally, edo competition offers exclusive wheel/tire combinations. The DBS is equipped with three-piece 21 in. racing wheels with stainless steel outer rims. The customer can choose the stock tire dimensions or go with a set of Continental tires that are 255/ 30 ZR 21 (front), 295/ 25 ZR 21 (rear).

Yes, they upgraded the brakes too. Up front: 405 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads and out back there’s 380 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads, including braided stainless steel brake lines.

The interior design of the DBS can be spiced up with the available carbon fiber shifter and shifter console, or the customer can opt for a custom interior in any color or material he desires, including handmade leather interiors.

Photos: edo competition

Related posts:

Edo Competition Mercedes C63

edo competition Gallardo LP600/4

edo competition Creates Dark Edition on BMW M5 Touring

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

edo competition Gallardo LP600/4

Car News

Edo

Lamborghini

Modified cars

edo competition (all lower case) decided that what the Lamborghini’s Gallardo LP600/4 needed was more. Yes, I know, to some people out there, the Gallardo LP600/4 already has more than enough, but to the people at edo competition felt that more was needed. Or as they put it “A little more unique? A little sportier? edo competition presents the LP600/4 with added spice.”

Right off the top, edo starts with the numbers, or at least the numbers that are going to really count: 600, 340, and 3.5 As in edo competition Gallardo LP600/4 puts out 600 horses, will hit 340 clicks at the top end and will take 3.5 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h from a standstill. And if you really want to dig into the engine figures, they work out to 600 horsepower at 7,970 rpm and 572 Nm of torque (422 ft-lb) at 6,845 rpm.

Impressive, no?

Naturally, edo didn’t just bulk up the engine and roll it out the shop door, oh no. They had a go at the chassis and did some upgrades to the suspension to increase the drivability, precision and driving dynamics. edo developed a new sport suspension system, featuring shocks that are adjustable in compression and rebound damping. This chassis upgrade allows for a number of custom suspension setups that can be matched to a wide range of customer needs. The shocks are new low friction shock units and edo has also reworked the new spring rates. All of the chassis work was tested on racetracks and high-speed ovals, as well as on the road.

Naturally, the wheels and tires aren’t stock either. In the case of the edo competition Gallardo LP600/4, the wheels are 19 inch three-piece racing numbers cast center-sections that have been “artificially-aged” and hand-polished outer rims with 39 stainless steel screws. The aftermarket skins are 235/35 ZR 19 up front and 305/30 ZR 19 Dunlop Sport Maxx rubber out the back.

Of course, they modded the exhaust system too. It’s stainless steel with a butterfly valve system that adjusts the sound level via remote, but it also frees up 15 more horsepower and tips the scales at 12 kg (26 lb) less than the original piece.

And as the final cherry on top, edo competition added a new front spoiler lip, ” … making 340 km/h (211 mph) runs into a relaxing affair.”

Here’s edo competition’s press release:

edo competition Gallardo LP600/4

… extra spicy

A little more unique? A little sportier?
edo competition presents the LP600/4 with added spice

600 – 340 – 3.5 … No, these are not the dimensions of what Santa’s about to bring. These are the three most prominent figures of the new edo LP600/4.
600 stands for its power output, 340 for its top speed and 3.5 seconds is how long it takes to accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a dead stop.

edo competition has managed to improve performance by increasing power output to 600 horsepower at 7,970 rpm and the torque output to 572 Nm (422 ft-lb) at 6,845 rpm.

Another priority was to upgrade the suspension in order to improve drivability, driving dynamics and precision. edo competition achieved this by employing a newly developed sport suspension system, which is adjustable in compression and rebound damping. This technology allows for custom suspension setups that are ideally matched to a wide range of needs. The low friction shock absorbers and new spring rates were tested extensively on race tracks and high speed ovals, as well as on the road, because handling is not an area for compromise. The result has to be experienced to be believed…

Rounding off the sporty concept are 19 in. three-piece racing wheels with artificially-aged cast center-sections, hand-polished outer rims and 39 stainless steel screws. For the front axle the customer can specify stock tire dimensions or 235/35 ZR 19, while the rear wheels are shod with 305/30 ZR 19 Dunlop Sport Maxx rubber. With this solution edo competition enables its customers to reuse the factory tires on their new wheels.

Another, ever-intriguing topic at edo competition: „The voice“.
The new stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with butterfly valves is an attractive proposition. Not only is the sound level adjustable via remote, the exhaust also frees up 15 horsepower and lets the driver enjoy a whole new aural experience. As a welcome side effect, the edo exhaust system weighs 12 kg (26 lb) less than the original piece.

As a result of years of experience with high speed tests, edo competition has reinforced the front end of the edo LP600/4 with a new front spoiler lip, making 340 km/h (211 mph) runs into a relaxing affair.

As promised, lots of extra spice …

As with all edo competition models, we set no limit to our customers’ imaginations. Special interiors or lavish leather upholstery, individual requests are accommodated and executed with quality.

All modifications are carried out exclusively at edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen.

Contact: edo competition Motorsport GmbH; Ruth Holtbuer; Zeche Westfalen 1; 59229 Ahlen
Phone: +49-2382/9698 – 182; Fax +49-2382/940568; E-Mail: r.holtbuer@edo-competition.de

Related posts:

Edo Competition Mercedes C63

edo competition Modifies Porsche Cayenne GTS

edo competition DBS – A luxury sports car

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Edo-Tuned Ferrari Enzo XX Evolution gets 840 HP

Car News

Edo

Ferrari

Miss out on your chance to pick up a Ferrari FXX? German tuning firm Edo Competition’s got your back. It may not be identical to the FXX, but it’s clearly what they’re going for in their latest iteration of the Enzo. Plus, I’m sure it’s cheaper than the $1.9 million FXX asking price, and you can drive it on the street!

So what Edo did was take a stock Ferrari Enzo at 660 horsepower, and bore out the cylinders from 6.0 to 6.3-liters (just like the FXX.) They added new camshafts, valve springs, connecting rods, and cylinder heads to the engine. New high-flow headers, catalytic converters, and mufflers were added on the exhaust side, and a new air intake system allows for better breathing. These changes allow the engine to produce 180 more horsepower than the stock Enzo, now up to 840 hp. The FXX “only” gets 800.

Edo also managed to cut out 220 lbs of weight from the stock Enzo, replaced the driveshaft with a lighter and stronger version, and modified the suspension with an adjustable system. This, along with 60 millisecond shift times (faster than the FXX) allow the Enzo XX Evolution to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in an incredible 3.2 seconds, reaches 124 mph in 9 seconds, and 186 mph in 19 seconds. That’s seriously fast. The modified Enzo finally stops accelerating at 242 mph.

The most obvious changes, however, are on the body. The aerodynamics were modified, and not surprisingly, resemble the FXX a bit. The relocated exhaust tips are now just above the newly designed rear bumper. Sitting atop the rear is a three-way adjustable wing for increased downforce, which is badly needed at 242 mph. LED tail lights are also added to the rear. According to the pictures you see, they also black out the headlights and add the “edo competition” decal to the door frame, but the rest of the decals are likely custom, so don’t expect them on yours.

<script type="text/javascript"

After finding that the stock 457 horsepower 6.3-liter V8 engine wasn’t enough, they set off to make an even more impressive beast.

For this car, edo decided to keep the C63 looking the same as stock. No typical tuner body kit or wild colors on this one. The only visual modification are the wheels, which are lightweight 19-inchers designed specifically for the car, and are for function over form.

The biggest changes are in the form of performance modifications. Edo has taken the 6.3-liter V8 stock engine and added a new high-performance exhaust system, high-flow headers and catalytic converters, new air filters, and a tuned ECU. The remote controlled butterfly valve exhaust system helps keep torque high at low revs without restricting power higher in the RPM band.

These changes boost the 457 hp and 442 ft-lbs of torque to 555 hp and 501 ft-lbs. A most significant upgrade that allows the new edo C63 to reach 62 mph from a stop in 4.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 199 mph.

The edo competition Mercedes Benz C63 is what you could call a sleeper, in a way. It’s already a high performance car, but these enhancements will help it leave other C63s in the dust while still appearing as a from-the-factory car, minus the “edo competition” decals on the sides.

More pictures…

Related posts:

edo competition Modifies Porsche Cayenne GTS

edo competition Gallardo LP600/4

edo competition Creates Dark Edition on BMW M5 Touring

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Edo Ferrari California Spider Gets 500hp

Car News

Edo

Ferrari

Modified cars

The brand new Ferrari California has hardly had a chance to take a breath on Ferrari dealer’s lots, and German tuner Edo Competition has already taken one and given it the “edo treatment.” The new California is Ferrari’s new entry-level car, if there is such a thing. Larger pads, rotors, and six-piston calipers help the SUV stop on a dime, while the highly adjustable suspension is tuned individually for each customer.

In typical edo style, the styling has changed significantly. The new aerodynamics package helps distinguish the body styling, which sits on top of the lightweight 22″ alloy wheels with custom-painted centers. Limited only by your imagination, the interior will be custom-created for each customer.

Styling is love it or hate it (as always with Porsche,) but the 0-60 run is over in a quick 6.2 seconds. Fast, but still outrun by the Infiniti FX50, and the FX50 is cheaper.

More photos and specs after the jump:

<script type="text/javascript"

This time, the victim was the Lamborghini Murcièlago. As if the newest Murcièlago LP640′s 631 horsepower wasn’t enough, edo has tuned it to 710 horsepower by adding new exhaust headers, a new exhaust tip, high-flow catalytic converters, new performance camshafts, new mufflers, modified cylinder heads and new high flow air filters. They’ve also tuned the ECU to deal with the increased power.

They’ve turned the Murcielago’s AWD setup into a rear wheel drive, which saves a total of 88 lbs, and improved handling. New 19″ alloy wheels, a rear wing, and a weird mascara-above-the-eyes paint job top off the exterior changes, while inside, they’ve added bare carbon fiber trim, a rear view camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

All of these modifications turn into some great performance numbers – top speed of 224 mph, 0-60 mph in about 3.2 seconds, and it can hit 124 mph in under 10 seconds. Not a bad investment if you’re tired of your boring old Murci’s dismal performance.

Full specs after the jump…

Damn, I don’t know how, but they did it- Edo Competition has made the already insane Enzo even crazier.

Along with the visual package, which I don’t like, Edo has given the Enzo more horsepower, more torque, a higher top speed, and overall better performance, thanks to all of the performance upgrades. The engine is an all aluminum V12 behemoth, with Edo’s performance exhaust. Other performance goodies include a new high-flow catalytic converter, a performance muffler, a ram air intake system, better air filters and ECU recalibration. Put it all together and you get the following:

Horsepower is increased from 485 to a monster 700, and top speed is increased from 217 mph to 230. The 0-60 time is now under 3.5 seconds, since 3.5 is for a 0-62 mph, so 3.3 should be about right. A new light-weight clutch and new a transmission control unit provide the same shift times as the uber FXX. Special suspension and light weight wheels and tires complete this awesome package. Not too bad, in fact, this is actually very good. Greenpeace will be screaming bloody murder, but Ferrari has never cared about them before, so no reason to start now.

Now to the bad part. The visual package, in my opinion, is horrid. Yellow is an ugly color for a car. Others might disagree, but that’s my take. Also the wheels are horrible, because they’re black. I don’t like black wheels. To me, they look cheap, small, plasticky, and they make the car look like a toy. Making the wheels matte black, like on this example, is even worse. However, included in the package is the ability for the customer to choose any color they want, but only for the wheels. Unfortunately, the paint has to stay.

The good parts about the visuals, well, there’s actually only one good part. The taillights and headlights have been blacked out into that smoky black color, which usually looks cheesy but on this car it looks sick (in a good way). I wish they included a body kit, but on second thought, I don’t think that it is possible to even make one for the Enzo, seeing as its original design is from F1 racing.

Edo also threw in a custom interior, which is really nothing more than a new two-tone color combo with a few new gauges thrown in.

As much as I gripe about the looks, I can’t deny that it is a stunning car, just because it is an Enzo. Making it an Edo Competition Enzo is even crazier. But looks aren’t everything, even if they should be. But have no fear, ’cause on the track, this beast’s performance speaks for itself.

Specs

Price: (Don’t know, but expect to pay one hell of a shiny penny for this upgrade)

Engine: 6 liter V12

Top Speed: 230 mph

Horsepower: 700

Torque: 527 pound-feet

0-60 mph: less than 3.5, probably 3.3 seconds

edo Ferrari Enzo Photo Gallery:

Related posts:

Gemballa Ferrari Enzo MIG-UI

Edo-Tuned Ferrari Enzo XX Evolution gets 840 HP

Another Ferrari Enzo wrecked

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Ferrari 599/630 Vandenbrink GTO

Edo

Ferrari

Vandenbrink

Video

It could be argued that the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is Ferrari’s greatest GT car to date. But that didn’t stop design company Vandenbrink Design from making it even better. As a tribute to the awesome 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, they created a new design which fuses the two great Ferraris beautifully.

In cooperation with Engineering firm EDO Competition, they’ve created a total of two models, both ready to blow your doors off. The 599 GTO features a 5.9L V12 pushing out 650 horsepower, while the higher-powered 630 GTO shows off a 6.3L V12 with an output of 750 horsepower. The 599 GTO runs the 0-62 mph sprint in an impressive 3.6 seconds, while the extra horsepower in the 630 GTO gives it a 0.2 second advantage in the 0-62 mph run. Both models put their power to the ground by way of a 6-speed paddle-shifted gearbox.

Continue reading for a video and more photos:

Just like the original 250 GTOs, each Vandenbrink GTO will be unique to the individual owner. The custom interior/upholstery design will be completed by Dutch craftsman Henk van Lith, known for his specialization in making high quality Italian interiors. However, only 5 total GTOs will be made, so this job shouldn’t be too difficult for Mr. Lith. The cost of the car will be a surprisingly high $1.5 million, PLUS the cost of the 599 Fiorano. The first car should be delivered to it’s lucky owner (with very deep pockets) in 2009.

<script type="text/javascript"
