Bugatti is such a manufacturer, owned by the Volkswagen Group, which also happens to own Lamborghini (and is adding Porsche to the mix). No expense was spared in developing the Veyron – it was designed to be the world’s fastest car, bar none. It hasn’t exactly been a huge profit maker either – more like a gigantic corporate ego trip. The Veyron had an allotment of 300 units, the last of which was sold in September 2011.

Bugatti pulled a clever hat trick by introducing the convertible Grand Sport though. That car was considered as a separate run of 150 units, enabling Bugatti to continue having a model to sell. As the Veyron neared its September end run, that was a looming issue. The 16C Galibier isn’t ready yet, and it would be highly unusual for the brand to not have any cars on the market until it goes on sale. Interestingly enough, Ricardo has released information about a large purchase of transmissions by Bugatti.

The amount of transmissions isn’t documented, but Ricardo notes that it is for “two years worth.” The units are the same seven-speed dual-clutch unit from the Veyron. Two years? The Grand Sport’s run should be out before then, unless it sells extremely slowly. There a few different reasons that have been speculated about – a high failure rate on the trannies (which we probably would have heard about by now) and the the desire to have more parts on hand, but the purchase seems highly unusual. Especially since it was announced in a press release.

Mark Barge, director at Ricardo, had this to say: “We look forward to two further very successful years in the story of this truly great automobile with its advanced Ricardo transmission.”

When Bugatti released yet another special edition Veyron at the Qatar Auto Show earlier this week, we speculated that Bugatti may pull out a Veyron shooting brake or something to extend the run yet again. While it was a joke, maybe it isn’t too far from reality……we’ll have to wait and see.

Related posts:

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Too Much: Bugatti Introduces Special Edition Veyron In Qatar

Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Too Much: Bugatti Introduces Special Edition Veyron In Qatar

Bugatti

Car News

Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport

Veyron

Veyron Grand Sport

What is this, the 50 millionth special edition variant of the Bugatti Veyron? src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

What is this, the 50 millionth special edition variant of the Bugatti Veyron? Every time we turn around Bugatti pops out a new one. The open top Grand Sport is the latest and greatest Veyron, and here comes another special edition variant. The 2012 Qatar Motor Show begins tomorrow, and this car was designed specifically for that show. Given the excess of Middle East oil magnates, it isn’t surprising. Bugatti didn’t give this special edition car a name, but it is being referred to as the “Bumblebee” so we’ll go with that.

That name should tell you all you need to know about the Veyron’s color scheme. The car is finished in a yellow and black paint combination that extends into the interior. Bugatti says it was founder Etorre Bugatti’s favorite color combination.

On the outside, yellow is the dominant color (even down to the door handles) with a black carbon fiber lower pieces and black tinted wheels with….yellow calipers. Inside the seats are all yellow as well, with black stitching. Who ever thought this was a good idea, we want to have a talk to. There is far too much yellow – its everywhere. It probably would have worked a lot better if the interior was all black. Swing and a miss on this one.

If you thought the Veyron was supposed to have ended production already, you aren’t alone. The coupe version did in fact reach the end of the line, with the last sale for that car completed in September 2011. But, Bugatti came up with a clever way to extend production beyond the original 300. And that is the convertible Grand Sport, which is treated by the company as a separate production run.

Out of a new allotment of 150 Grand Sports, Bugatti says there is 105 slots left. Then it will be the end of the road for the Grand Sport, and time for the Veyron run to be extended again. Just kidding (we think) – there is no plans in the works to do that. Hopefully by then Bugatti will have announced a true second model, like the 16C Galibier super sedan.

Related posts:

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition

Ricardo Reports Two Years Worth of Bugatti Veyron Transmissions On order

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Only the Best for Bugatti: 16C Galibier Upgraded, Production Decision by Late This Year

Bugatti

Car News

16C Galibier

Bugatti 16C Galibier

The rumor has it…….there is a lot of rumors that go on in the automotive industry. Many ones at publications with well-connected sources turn out to be true. Earlier this month, news broke about the Bugatti 16C Galibier. With the brand needing a new model after the Veyron had ended its production run, attention has turned on the car Bugatti will introduce next.

The 16C Galibier has widely thought to be that vehicle, but the car was said to be on hold at Bugatti chief Wolfgang Durheimer’s request. He didn’t feel the vehicle offered enough power, space or luxury. Those superlatives are the very essence of what Bugatti is. Setting new records, such as being the world’s fastest and most luxurious production sedan, are musts.

Durheimer was said to have ordered designers and engineers back to the drawing board, tasked with increasing power, space and luxury. Today, Autocar confirms that a decision will be made on a car that is “significantly altered” versus the 16C Galibier Concept we have seen.

The decision will be made by the Volkswagen board at the end of this year on whether to continue development of the vehicle, which is in its second design phase. Durheimer says he will “suggest we continue development, but there will be some remarkable changes from the original concept….the design will be different, especially from the B-pillar back, the ingress and regress to the rear seats will be improved, as will the legroom and ergonomics, the car will be a little longer, and the power of the engine will be at least four figures.”

The changes have been undertaken after feedback from Bugatti’s existing customers, half of which have already sat in and experienced the 16C Galibier. When you have a clientele as well-heeled and limited as Bugatti’s, you definitely listen to the feedback of existing customers before producing a model. At these upper echelons of automotive motoring, there isn’t much room for conquest sales and growing sales. At this point, after the upgrades, we think its is highly likely the Galibier will continue with production. Otherwise, Bugatti would be up a creek without a new model to sell in 2013.

Related posts:

Not So Fast: Bugatti 16C Galibier Project On Hold?

New Photos of Bugatti 16C Galibier Saloon

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Not So Fast: Bugatti 16C Galibier Project On Hold?

Bugatti

Car News

16C

16C Galibier

Bugatti 16C Galibier

Galibier

Excess. What could be more over-the-top than a Bugatti Veyron? A gold-plated specially-tuned from the Middle East, yes. But nothing else from a production standpoint.

The Veryon’s time will soon be over though and Bugatti needs a new production model. The 16C Galibier that has been making the rounds has been thought to be that car. It was shown at a public Bugatti event, as well as toured all around the world to show to customers and dealers. Judging from the pictures, it is production-ready too. However, Edmunds Inside Line reports it could be delayed by the head of Bugatti Wolfgang Durheimer. The reason? It isn’t doesn’t offer enough power, space or luxury.

Last we checked 800 horsepower was nothing to turn your nose up at. Durheimer wants the 16C Galibier to be the best sedan in the world though, without question. IL’s source said that tuners could get power up to similar levels, which means they want to surpass that figure.

Being the best car also means not only providing power, but world-beating levels of luxury and space. For the price tag that this car is likely to command, we think that is a worthy goal. The source goes on to say “there should not even be a question about the best car in the world when you sit down to discuss it with your billionaire buddies…he doesn’t want to build it (the Galibier) until it’s the car that finishes the argument, not the car that starts it.”

Sounds like a good place to start from, although the 16C Galibier seemed to tick all those boxes for us. Either way, a decision on the car’s production is said to be made later this year. If it doesn’t make the passing grade, we aren’t sure what Bugatti will do in the meantime as it needs a model. However, something tells us the 16C Galibier will hit the road, possibly in updated (upgraded?) form over what we’ve seen before. Check out the car in our gallery below to see if it is over-the-top enough for you.

Related posts:

New Photos of Bugatti 16C Galibier Saloon

Only the Best for Bugatti: 16C Galibier Upgraded, Production Decision by Late This Year

Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

New Photos of Bugatti 16C Galibier Saloon

Bugatti

Car News

16C

16C Galibier Saloon

Galibier

sedan

AH! Sure, of curse a car like this would come with fitted luggage. But fitted luggage is a bit of a fetish for me. Its one of the (very) few completely nonsensical things that I’m totally into. It’s classy, and of course a car like Bugatti ‘s 16C Galibier Saloon would have fitted luggage.

Also, you have to love the totally Euro nod at calling this luxo-boat a “Saloon” That will no doubt cause lots of sniggers and shaken heads amongst Americans, but you know, we’re a willfully ignorant lot. For those of you that don’t know, a Saloon is what Euros call sedans.

So, as our sources say “The more we see of the Bugatti 16C Galibier, the higher the chances that the VW Group will green light the super saloon for production – that is, if the Germans haven’t signed it off already.” Yeah, they are still hemming and hawing about whether to make this thing or not, but you have to say it looks pretty production ready, for one thing. And for another, if this is just going to be a concept, why would they keep showing more and more shots of it?

One reason for the new shots is that this 16C Galibier in a black-only finish. Sure, looks very nice and classy in all black like that, but I have a soft spot for the two-tones. It’s a bit of a Bugatti tradition, and the first real shots of the 16C Galibier showed that the two-tone color scheme worked really well.

And just in case you’re wondering what’s under the hood of the four door Bugatti, the (nearly production-ready) 16C Galibier gets an 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine that is also resident in the Veyron supercar. Of course it’s not exactly the same as what’s in the two-seater.

The Veyron’s four turbochargers are replacement with a two-stage supercharging set up and the Galibier also features flex-fuel capability. The 16C Galibier also features four-wheel drive, specially developed ceramic brakes and a new suspension design.
<a According to Mr. House, a pelican distracted him, making him drop his cell phone and lose control of the car.

Galveston Daily News reported:

The man, who refused to give his name, was looking at real estate in Galveston.
About 3 p.m. a low-flying pelican distracted him as he traveled north on Interstate 45 just south of the hurricane levee near Omega Bay.
The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car’s front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon.

Luckily, two dudes listening to Sublime caught it all on video, thinking they were watching a Lamborghini crash into the water. Check out the video:

<script type="text/javascript"

We have a very rich neighborhood right next to the beach. I was stunned! Third or fourth Veyron Crashed A distracted owner of a Bugatti Veyron, one of the world’s fastest production cars, accidently drove Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, into a lake in Galveston, Texas. The driver was uninjured, but the car, which can sell for around $2 million, was partially submerged in three feet of water.

Some are reporting that the crash was a hoax for insurance fraud. Did you see a pelican in the video? I’m not here to make judgment, but I wouldn’t count out the possibility.

According to reports, Mr. House bought the Bugatti for $1.25 million from a Jonesboro, Ark. dealer last month and was on his way to Galveston, TX to look at real estate. The Bugatti Veyron was one of 15 made for the United States.

We have more footage of the Bugatti below, this one is of the car being towed out of the lake:

It looks like one of consequences of VW buying Porsche is that the controversial Porsche Panamera is likely to become some sort of permium, high end VW product. If not ending up a VW, the four-door coupe’s platform might end up with one of VW’s other brands, either Bentley, Bugatti or Audi. After amortizing all the development costs, the platform will most likely go away all together next decade.

Word comes from Edmunds, that VW has decided to share the Panamera’s platform with at least one of VW’s premium brands. Some people were hoping that the Panamera platform would end up being the base for a production version of the Lamborghini Estoque four-door coupe. It would seem like a great contender for usng the Panamera platform, but an inside source says the Panamera architecture will not underpin any future Lamborghini models.

So, with Lambo out of the running, that means the remaining contenders are Bentley, Bugatti or Audi. The next-generation of the Continental GT could benefit from suing the Panamera platform, but it looks like Bentley will most likely use one of Audi’s aluminum platforms to save on weight. Also on the negative side of using the Panamera base as a new Bentley is that the Panamera is also much lower than the current Continental GT. Odd that.

Bugatti is still hemming and hawing about whether to make a second model, but the potential avialability of the Panamera could sway the decision making process. Bugatti has been talking about making a four door for the longest time now, and being able to use the Panamera platform could make the descision easier.

And then, of course, there’s Audi. Sure, Audi could make use of the Panamera underpinnings, but they already have a number of four doors at their disposal. So it would seem remote at best that a Panamera version would end up coming from Audi.

No matter which company ends up using the Panamera base, there’s no word as to when we might see it. As far as the end of the line for the Porsche, sources say that will happen by 2017.

Source: LeftLaneNews

Photo from Flickr user SOCIALisBETTER

Related posts:

Next-Generation Porsche Panamera Platform Could Underpin New 928

Porsche Panamera Spy Shots – Uncloaked

Porsche Readying Panamera Convertible?

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Bugatti

Car News

convertible

Grand Sport

Veyron

Finally, after many false alarms and internet generated rumors, the Bugatti Veyron finally gets the chance to take off its top and reveal its sexy body in all its supercar glory… Well, not really. The Grand Sport is basically just a roadster version of the Veyron, which means a couple things.

One, due to the fact that a topless body is not as torsionally rigid or stable as the hardtop, the Grand Sport won’t be able to hit the Veyron’s top speed of 253 mph. I hear that top speed will be limited to 217 mph, but no performance details have been released yet.

Two, and this is debatable, the Veyron doesn’t look as good with the top down as with the top up. But on the flip side, everyone will know exactly who you are when you’re cruising at a cool 200 mph with the wind in your hair and the thunder of the W16 in your ears.

It is set to be revealed to the public on August 16 at the Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance, and the first one will be auctioned the very next day, so pricing has not yet been set. But you can be sure that all the filthy rich guys who think the Veyron just ain’t special enough will be clamoring to get one. After all, what other car screams “I’m so goddam rich and vain” like an open top Veyron?

Related posts:

Too Much: Bugatti Introduces Special Edition Veyron In Qatar

Ricardo Reports Two Years Worth of Bugatti Veyron Transmissions On order

Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Veyron vs. Ferrari 599 in Highway Race

Bugatti

Ferrari

This is freakin’ hilarious. This happened in England, on the M27 motorway. The Bugatti was leading in the race for about ten minutes before he got pulled over.

So what happened was a police officer was just sitting there with his radar gun, not really paying much attention to anything, when suddenly this black thing shoots past him, quickly followed by another black blur. Being a policeman, he just has to spoil the fun, so he chases after him, and reaches 140 mph before catching the Bugatti and pulling him over. The Ferrari got away, and since it had no plates, it was impossible to track.

The luckless Bugatti owner got three penalty points and a £60 fine, which is about $120.

Related posts:

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir

Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir

Bugatti

First there was the Bugatti Veyron, and the world was stunned. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

First there was the Bugatti Veyron, and the world was stunned. Supercars everywhere, regardless of nameplate, fell to the mercy of the Bugatti’s merciless 1001 horsepower, W16 engine with a top speed in excess of 250 mph.

Then, because the Veyron seemed to not be exclusive enough, the Pur Sang was released. Called “Pure Blood”, this version exhibited the Veyron in all it’s natural glory of aluminum and carbon fiber. This was the most exclusive ever, with 5 in the entire world.

Then came several one-off editions, most notably the Bugatti Pegaso. And the most recent variation, the insanely expensive Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermes.

Yes, the Bugatti Veyron sure has its share of exclusive variations, and here comes yet another one, building on the “Pure Blood” idea. It was built as a tribute to the ultra-exclusive Bugatti Atlantique 57S:

The Sang Noir is derived from the French words of “sang”, meaning blood, and “noir”, meaning black. Literally it means “Blood Black” or “Black Blood”, but when you apply the Pur Sang idea, it can be taken to mean “Pure Black”.

And it, quite literally, is.

Everything is black— well, almost everything. The grill, mirror casings, roof rails, and wheels are chrome. The main section of the body is clear-coated carbon fiber. Everything else— paint, fuel cap, headlight casings, everything— is black. The interior, however, is a tan/orange color with matching leather seats, and with black lacquer trim.

As with all of the other variations, performance has not been affected, so it still will be the second fastest car in the world.

Speaking of fastest car in the world, I wonder when Bugatti will finally make the decision to once again take the title of fastest car, ’cause I’m pretty tired of seeing the SSC at the top of the list.

Anyways, this car is nothing really special, as it really is just another variation, but it is a Bugatti. Which, in itself, does make it special. And so another form of the prestigious Veyron joins the ranks, this time in the guise of “Pure Black”. Production numbers have not been announced, but I’m sure that those with the money will be clambering to get their hands on one. The rest of us, like always, can only sit back and dream.

But what the hey, dreaming’s fun too.

Specs:

Price (about): —

Engine: 8 liter W16

Top Speed: 253 mph

Horsepower: 1001

Torque: 922 pound-feet

0-60 mph: 2.5 seconds

Mileage: 8/14

Related posts:

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Bugatti Outdoes Itself…..Again

Bugatti

If you think the ultra-wealthy reached the peak of their automotive spending on the “regular” Bugatti Veyron, or even the bare-metal and carbon fiber Pur Sang, you obviously don’t know Bugatti. Aptly named the Veyron Fbg par Hermes, it exudes the finest luxury possible from every nook and cranny, making the $2.4 million price tag seem almost reasonable.

Starting with the exterior, the Fbg (short-hand for “Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré”, the street in Paris where Hermés’ historic office is located) is given a custom two-tone brown and tan paint job. In addition, custom eight-spoke chrome wheels as well as unique H-patterned grill inserts for the front bumper and rear air intake inlets round out the model-specific upgrades.

The interior is another story though. From the seats to the dash and doors, the entire interior is covered in enough high-grade leather that PETA will be picketing outside of your garage. The trunk is even leather-lined and comes fitted with custom-made luggage.

If you are one of the very few people that could afford such a gorgeous piece of excess, better hurry to the dealer as Bugatti will only be building one of these custom vehicles per month until the Veyron has run its course.

And yes, it will still have 1001 horsepower powering all four wheels as well as reach 253 mph.

More images after the jump…

Related posts:

2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – Yep, It’s Official: the Bugatti Veyron Goes Topless

Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Fastest Production Cars in the World – Quick Update

Bugatti

Ferrari

Jaguar

Koenigsegg

List

McLaren

Pagani

Saleen

SSC

Back in March I wrote a post listing the 10 Fastest Cars in the World. It was hugely popular (and still is,) but I’ve received so many comments telling me that the list isn’t accurate anymore. I plan to do another comprehensive post on this in the future, but for now here is a quick update on the fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. On the last post, I also received a lot of comments about cars such as the Lingenfelter Corvette being faster. Just like the last list, this is only for production cars. Fastest cars in the world:

SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 256 mph

Horsepower: 1183

Torque: 1094lbs

On September 13th, 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero broke the official top speed world record, traveling 256.18 mph down a closed section of a Washington State highway. Impressive, considering the Ultimate Aero’s engine is only a twin-turbo V8 – half the size and turbo count of the Veyron below.

Bugatti Veyron

Top Speed: 253 mph

Horsepower: 1001

Torque: 479lbs

No introduction is needed for the amazing Bugatti Veyron. Powered by a W-16 style, quad-turbo engine, the Veyron is commonly considered the Ultimate Supercar.

Koenigsegg CCX

Top Speed: 250 mph

900 Horsepower

My personal favorite of the bunch, the Swedish Koenigsegg CCX is pure adrenaline. I’d probably give up a kidney to own one.

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Top Speed: 248 mph

750 Horsepower

The popular Mustang tuner Saleen has really made a name for themselves in the Supercar world with the amazing S7. The Twin-Turbo version really steps up their game. It should be exciting to see where they go from here.

McLaren F1

Top Speed: 240.14

620 Horsepower

Probably the most amazing car on the list, the McLaren F1 was first built over 13 years ago, and is still on this list.

Ferrari Enzo

Top Speed: 217 mph

657 Horsepower

I wonder how Ferrari felt when they sold the car for $660,000 new and were immediately sold second-hand for over $1.3 Million each.

Jaguar XJ220

Top Speed: 217 mph

549 Horsepower

Along with the McLaren F1, the Jaguar XJ220 has been around for a long time (1992,) and it’s amazing that it’s still on the list. Be sure to check out the Pininfarina version as well.

Pagani Zonda F

Top Speed: 215 mph

602 Horsepower

Right up there with the Koenigsegg on my “first cars I would own if I had the money” list, the Pagani Zonda F is one awesome car. The Zonda R is still close on the horizon, so expect to see the Pagani name higher up the next “fastest cars” list.

Hopefully that satisfies you all until the 2008 Fastest Cars list. Perhaps by then Pagani will build the Zonda R, McLaren will have made a decision on their next Supercar, and maybe Bugatti or Koenigsegg will decide it’s time to overtake the Ultimate Aero.

Related posts:

Top 10 Fastest Cars in the World

2007 Hyper-Cars: What’s New?

Update: Barabus TKR

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition

Bugatti

For when you have to stand out from the “regular” $1.2 Million Bugatti Veyrons, comes the Veyron Pegaso Edition. This guy has a 1. Vanity plate or not, this dude has way too much money. For reference, you could buy seven Ferrari F430s for the same price as a standard Bugatti Veyron, and still have plenty of money left over. That still wasn’t good enough for this guy.

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Photo Gallery:

More photos…

Source: E46Fanatics

Related posts:

<a href='http://www.automoblog.net/2008/08/13/bugatti-veyron-grand-sport/' rel='bookmark' title='2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – All the cars you would expect are on the list, ranked from fastest to slowest (though calling any of these cars slow is blasphemy.) We start the list with the king of fast. Keep in mind this list only includes production cars. I’ve had a lot of comments mentioning faster cars, which aren’t actually in production.

Last update to this list: December 8, 2010

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Top Speed: 268 mph

1200 Horsepower

Not to let SSC’s Ultimate Aero supercar keep Bugatti in second place for long, the French supercar company slapped bigger turbos and intercoolers on their previous world record holding Veyron to produce a seriously impressive 1200 horsepower. The Veyron SS still houses the same 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, but now produces 200 more horsepower. To handle the extra speed and power, Bugatti also had to revise the chassis and suspension. Only 30 Veyron Super Sport models are expected to be produced. Interestingly, the 30 cars sold to the public will be electronically limited to “only” 258 mph.

SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 256 mph

1183 Horsepower

Boutique supercar maker Shelby Super Cars (SSC) unleashed the Ultimate Aero in 2007, destroying the more expensive Bugatti Veyron’s top speed record. The car in question was a 2007 model – since then, SSC has upgraded the Aero to include an all-new twin-turbo V8 engine (half the size of the Veyron,) producing 1287 hp, giving the car a theoretical top speed of 290 mph. Nope, that’s not a typo. It’s also theoretical. SSC says given a long enough road, they could get the car up to 270 mph. That would break the Veyron’s record again, but let’s see if they ever get around to it.

Koenigsegg CCXR

Top Speed: 250 mph

1018 Horsepower

Although the Koenigsegg CCR broke the top speed record in 2005 on a totally unfair circular track, the updated CCXR has a better engine, aerodynamics, and, well, pretty much everything else. I’d love to see the Swedish company get this out on the VW test track, which is the same track on which the Veyron was tested (and a straight line, not a circle.)

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Top Speed: 248 mph

750 Horsepower

Saleen’s first car not based on an existing model, the S7 supercar grabbed a lot of attention when it was released in 2000. An updated Twin-Turbo model followed shortly afterward, providing 750 hp and a 248 mph top speed. Saleen offers a competition package increasing power to 1000 hp, which brings the top speed up to a rumored 260 mph. Interest has dropped for the S7, but if they can come back and claim a top speed close to Bugatti and SSC, we might see some more of Saleen’s supercar in the near future.

McLaren F1

Top Speed: 240.14

627 Horsepower

Can you believe this? The McLaren F1 was made in 1994, and it’s still one of the fastest cars in the world. This happens to be the first car on this list I would purchase if I had the cash. Produced from 1993 to 1998, the F1 still sells for well over $1 million each, and I have a feeling it will only appreciate over the years. This is a timeless car and will remain on the all-time greatest car list for decades to come. Even though it’s no longer the fastest production car in the world anymore, it’s still the fastest naturally-aspirated road car in the world, sporting a special 6.1-liter V12 capable of biting your head off.

Ferrari Enzo

Top Speed: 226 mph

651 Horsepower

Ferrari’s most recent mega-car seems to have people crashing it left and right, but the drivers always walk away fine (physically.) With only 400 Enzos ever made, the value of the car goes up with each wreck. Sporting a naturally-aspirated 6.0-liter V12, the Enzo is beginning to show its age, but remains one of the fastest cars in the world. Until Ferrari’s next mega-ultra-super-duper-car, of course.

Aston Martin One-77

Top Speed: 220 mph

750 Horsepower

The newest entry in our list, the Aston Martin One-77 is a very limited edition (only 77 made, who’d have thought?) supercar. Originally the top speed was estimated at a relatively paltry 200 mph but later tests confirmed a top speed of 220.007 mph. The 3,307 lb car can rocket from zero to sixty in 3.5 seconds thanks to its 750 horsepower, 7.3-liter V12 engine and six-speed automated manual gearbox.

Pagani Zonda F Clubsport

Top Speed: 215 mph

640 Horsepower

Powered by a 7.3-liter AMG-built V12, the 640 horsepower Pagani Zonda F Clubsport created ripples in the car community when it lapped the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife test track in only 7:24.7 seconds. A very impressive car – I’m actually confused as to why it’s not higher on the list, although Pagani claims that without the car’s aerodynamic equipment (added to increase cornering ability,) the Zonda F Clubsport would have a top speed of 220 mph.

Jaguar XJ220

Top Speed: 213 mph

549 Horsepower

Even older than the McLaren F1, the Jaguar XJ220 has been on this list since 1992. Sporting a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, the XJ220…wait…a 3.5-liter V6? 217 mph in 1992? That’s some seriously impressive engineering. Be sure to check out the Pininfarina version as well.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV

Top Speed: 213 mph

661 Horsepower

Another car I’m surprised isn’t higher on the list. The Murciélago LP 670-4 SV is not only the fastest Murcielago ever produced, but the fastest car Lamborghini has ever made, sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.8 seconds and hitting that 213 mph top speed. This is the last Murcielago variant Lambo is making – there have been plenty of rumor of a successor.

Pushed off the Top 10 List:

Porsche Carrera GT – 209 mph
McLaren Mercedes SLR – 207 mph

Related posts:

Fastest Production Cars in the World – Quick Update

2007 Hyper-Cars: What’s New?

The Ten Most and Least Expensive Cars to Insure in 2011

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts
