Ford’s Fiesta Movement, A New Way To Market Cars

FordFiesta.jpg

Ford, seemingly the only American car maker left that isn’t in a full blown panic over its future, has come up with a novel way to market its new (for North America) Fiesta. Ford is turning to social networking and crowd-sourcing to get the word out about the new ride, and also to get feedback flowing back to Dearborn about what works and what doesn’t.

Driver Nails Bison, Totals Fusion, Buys Another From Ford

Bison.jpg

From the “You’ve got to be kidding” files comes word (actually via FoMoCo) about a woman who was driving near Yellowstone Park and hit a BISON with her shiny new Ford Fusion and lived to tell about it. Not only did she live, but she was so impressed with the Fusion’s sturdiness, she bought another one as a replacement.

2009 Ford Flex Review

2009 Ford Flex
2009 Ford Flex

It’s happened more than a few times - I’m chatting with a fellow gearhead about the latest sports cars, old muscle cars, or whatever I’m in the mood for at the time. Then, the inevitable question: “What kind of car do you drive?” I ask. “Well,” he says as he looks at his feet, “I used to have a [insert cool car here] but had to sell for a minivan when we had kids.” Ouch! This has been happening all over America for years, folks, and we have to put an end to it.

So what are we to do when car guys across the country are being forced to trade in their beloved hot rod for a big bloated, bland, and boring minivan or SUV? Well, Ford hopes they have the answer with the brand new Ford Flex.

Sitting somewhere between a minivan and SUV in class, the Flex finally gives my above mentioned friend something to haul the family around without being too embarrassed. You might even call it cool. It certainly looks like nothing else on the road, proven by the intrigued and/or disgusted looks we got while driving ours down the street.

Our review model: 2009 Ford Flex Limited AWD

So what did we think of the Flex for the week we had one? Continue Reading…

2010 Ford Shelby GT500, More Power, Better Mileage

FordShelbyGT500blue.jpg

OK, scoops out on the 2010 Shelby Mustang (officially dubbed the Ford Shelby GT500), and it looks even better than the ’09s. There’s more power, and, get this, better mileage. Sure, we all want better gas mileage, but what Ford is touting is kind of comical. Still looks like a pretty damn good ride.

2010 Ford Taurus SHO Announced

Ford Taurus SHO
2010 Ford Taurus SHO

Ah, we knew it would happen sooner or later. Despite the new Taurus’ non-sporty nature, the infamous Taurus SHO reared its head and showed us some specs. It even looks good!

In short, the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO gets a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 pushing out 365 horsepower, an AWD drivetrain, and a paddle-shifting 6-speed gearbox. Wha? This doesn’t seem right, but it’s seriously impressive. Read on for more info: Continue Reading…

2009 Detroit Wrap-Up: 10 Best of Show

The Detroit auto show has come and gone, and has left the automotive industry with a little more to chew over. As a final wrap-up to quite possibly the most important auto show in America, we chose 10 cars that summed up the best of the show. We chose based on significance and looks, which is why you will see Honda’s Insight on the same list as the Fisker Karma. After much deliberating, here are the 10 we think are the best.

10) Volkwagen BlueSport Concept

vw-bluesport.jpg

Starting at the No. 10 spot, the BlueSport made this list because it is an honest effort to make a sporty car by a company whose most engaging vehicle to date is the Golf GT1 (no, the Bugatti Veyron does not count). It’s not the sexiest roadster available, as the Saturn Sky debatably holds that spot (key word: debatably. Check out the comments at the link above, and add your own opinion). While not terribly exciting to the eyes, it does feature that solid, reliable look that has come to define VW’s “German Engineering”. 57 miles to each gallon of diesel just adds to the charm.
