src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

In astrology, the Taurus sign is said to be a negative symbol. However, for the tastes of 25 years worth of American drivers, the Taurus produced by the Ford Motor Company is a positive trendsetter.

In 2008, Ford Motor Company resurrected the Taurus name returning in time to accomplish its original 1986 goal by replacing the Ford Crown Victoria. Though the 2008 Ford Taurus required almost 7 inches more of wheelbase and 13.4 inches of additional total length than its first-generation model, the new Ford sedan flagship of the 21st century was finally established. Winning the long-deputed clash of old car and new car construction, the Ford Taurus has since faced the all-out battle for the family sedan category. Angled towards the upper-end of the North American family four-door market, the Ford Taurus has been hindered by the lingering image of the Ford Five Hundred still freshly affecting the exterior and feel of the car. As attendees of the 2011 New York Auto Show already know, a 2013 Ford Taurus enlists more youthful assertions for design and technology.

Preserving the dimensions of the current model, the 2013 Ford Taurus outer shell uses more chiselled body lines. Ford is said to have benchmarked the Audi A6 in refining the exterior construction quality. The large, front grille of the 2013 Taurus presents the horizontal fins found on modern Ford products but the overall shaping of the major air intake does not conform to any design DNA in North America. The hex-shaped main grille gives the 2013 Ford Taurus a pronounced nose. New, aggressive-looking projector headlamps with LED turn signals and a more muscular hood complete the front-end ensemble. Wheel sizes up to 20 inches will be available on the 2013 Taurus covering but not impeding larger brakes on all models. An enhanced brake booster is also presented for improved stopping power with standard torque vectoring control adding to the 2013 Ford Taurus‘ handling.

Ford has continued there reengineering of the 2013 Ford Taurus on the inside started first with improved noise reduction and comfort. Soft-touch materials and some restyled controls will be noted by 2013 Taurus occupants. The drivers will also sense a newer feel to the steering system of the sedan as turning control is handled through electric power-assist. A five-way button on the 2013 Ford Taurus steering wheel spokes are designed to aid greater interaction with the control of convenience and comfort features inside the cabin. Rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, 8-inch MyFord Touch screen and rear window power shade are available features owners can look forward to on the 2013 Ford Taurus.

The standard versions of the 2013 Ford Taurus sedan will incorporate a revised engine line-up that will include a four-cylinder powerplant. Challenging the common performance perceptions of a six-cylinder engine in larger vehicles, Ford’s EcoBoost technology will bring a 2-liter, inline-4 powerplant to the large sedan. Employing direct injection and a turbocharger, the 2013 Taurus’ EcoBoost 2-liter is estimated to produce 237 horsepower and 250 pounds-feet of torque. Impressive, this small displacement engine’s output is greater than the 2011 Chevrolet Impala’s 3.9 liter V-6 powerplant. Delivering usage performance, the 2013 Ford Taurus with the EcoBoost 2-liter is slated to provide class-leading fuel economy up to 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder will only be available with front-wheel drive. However, the 3.5 liter V-6 engine can be ordered as a front-wheel or all-wheel drive sedan for the 2013 model year. Will the size is equal to the current Ford Taurus; the normally aspirated V-6 engine offers a 27 horsepower boost over the 2011 model with 290 horsepower in total. Behind the grille work, the 2013 Ford Taurus will operate with an active shutter system. This Active Grille Shutter technology is already featured on the 2012 Ford Focus.

The top power plant for the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO versions remains as the hyperactive EcoBoost engine. Featuring twin turbochargers attached to a direct injected 3.5 liter V-6 engine, the 2013 Taurus SHO continues to be launched by 365 horsepower and 350 pounds-feet of torque. Sport-tuned suspension and steering, an improved engine cooling system as well as specific auto-dimming, heated side mirrors are parts of the SHO Performance Package on the 2013 Ford Taurus.

To be manufactured at Ford’s Chicago plant, the 2013 Taurus sedan is likely to be released mid next year.

Information and photo source: Ford Motor Company

Related posts:

One Stubborn Bull: First Ford Taurus Sold 25 Years Ago

2010 Ford Taurus SHO Announced

2013 Ford Escape Innovations Tease Ahead of Debut

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Hyundai New, Sophisticated Accent for 2012

Canadian International Auto Show

Car News

Hyundai

NY Auto Show

2012 cars

2012 Hyundai Accent

compact car

Hyundai Accent

new car

As much as Hyundai Motors has been making substantial moves in advancing their vehicle quality, design and technology, it could also be said that the automotive market has come to the South Korean company. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

As much as Hyundai Motors has been making substantial moves in advancing their vehicle quality, design and technology, it could also be said that the automotive market has come to the South Korean company. Particularly in the United States, new car customers are more open to explore the variety of value-priced vehicles that do not skip on standard features. As the Hyundai brand steered themselves to recognition as more than just a low-cost vehicle provider, the introduction of vehicles like the Genesis, Equus and the Elantra is showing observers we can truly expect more from the automaker. Drastically revamping their entire vehicle line-up, one remaining product of the old Hyundai regime was the entry-level Accent. With some considering their small car the weakest link to an enthusiastic line of fresh vehicles, the brand new 2012 Hyundai Accent will truly bolster the strength of the chain.

Riding on a wheelbase 2.8 inches longer than the previous subcompact model, a GS or SE trimmed five-door and a GLS level four-door body style will inaugurate the 2012 Hyundai Accent. As many could expect, the Hyundai Veloster unveiled earlier provided a strong hint to the future Accent. Comparably, 2012 Hyundai Accent’s styling expresses itself in a more polite manner than the aggression of the Veloster. Smaller front grille openings and the additional available fog lamps on the SE and GLS models are defining differences between Hyundai’s new entry scale. As the headlamp housings flow gracefully up the front quarter panels, the side of the 2012 Hyundai Accent wears sharp contours. Wheel sizes between 14 to 16 inches will be found as part of factory preparations for the new Accent where four-wheel disc brakes and anti-lock braking will be equipped fleet wide on the 2012 model year vehicle. Tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control and Brake Assist are all standard safety items for the 2012 Hyundai Accent.

While the 2012 Hyundai Accent was released with all specifications and details at the New York Auto Show, the more mature subcompact had been making appearance along the recent international auto show tour for 2011. Personally, I was introduced to the 2012 Hyundai Accent at the 2011 Canadian International Auto Show. Able to get a good look at the upcoming five-door hatchback model (and informed about the planned four-door model), the remaining details were still sketchy on the new Accent.

Within the surface area of the enlarged frame, modernization of the 2012 Hyundai Accent sees the inclusion of a cutting-edge small car powertrain. Starting with a 1.6 liter inline-4 engine, the Accent will move with the perk of 28 new horsepower over the previous Hyundai subcompact car. Totalling to 138 horsepower, Hyundai’s 1.6 liter Gamma engine involves gasoline direct injection and dual continuously variable valve timing. A definitely more sportier powerplant is complemented by an advanced assortment of gearboxes. While the outgoing Hyundai Accent made do with an aging five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmission choice, the 2012 car features the two transmission types with 6 speeds. Insuring improved power delivery while driving, fuel economy is also enhanced. The new Hyundai Accent five-door promises runs of 34 miles per gallon with the manual gearbox and 33 miles per gallon when equipped to a 6-speed automatic. A Hyundai buyer of the 2012 model year Accent will receive at least a 3 mile per gallon improvement over the 2011 car.

2012 Hyundai Accent’s larger wheelbase does not necessarily translate to additional passenger volume but both the four and five door models are welcoming as well as comfortable with a new interior layout for up to 5 passengers. However, cargo space is increased to class-topping quantity over other five-door compact competition for 2011. Inside all 2012 Hyundai Accents is 6 airbags, power door locks and 60/40 split rear seating. Bluetooth will also be introduced to the Accent in 2012 bringing it in line for almost every modern vehicle.

So far, no price has been confirmed for the 2012 Hyundai Accent models but expect some of the lowest new car prices for the model year. Unlike the introduction of the previous Accent, Hyundai’s 2012 car is entering into an automotive dogfight over the subcompact vehicle category. The Ford Fiesta and the upcoming Chevrolet Sonic are only a few new entrants increasing the stakes in the North American compact car segment. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

The North American auto show season is drawing close to an end for the half part of 2011. Acting as candy to the automotive enthusiasts will have been stricken to a diet of largely conservative styling and eco-friendly presentations, the 2011 edition of automotive exhibits are being delivered on an optimistic note. Presenting new, exploratory vehicles that now fuse design and technology in near perfect harmony, executives of the auto companies (not only the Detroit 3 automakers) are finding reason for a positive outlook. At the 2011 New York Auto Show, Nissan Americas Chairman Carlos Tavares put into words one of the major Japanese automakers’ eagerness inside the United States. During Wednesday’s breakfast with press and dignitaries inside Jacob Javits Convention Center, the Nissan executive vice president Tavares provided a speech full of announcements directed to the North American market.

A company that recorded a 17 percent increase in United States sales across its Nissan and Infiniti car line-ups in 2010, the Japanese-derived auto manufacturer understandably has been dealing with more somber headlines through the aftermath of Japan‘s current earthquake disaster. Leading off the press conference, Carlos Tavares recognized the North American continent’s thought pattern and support to the automaker’s corporate home. “Nissan extends a heartfelt “thank you” to so many of you – for offering kind words of support during this very difficult time. While the automotive industry is still feeling the effects of the disaster in Japan, we do have some good news to report. Nissan’s plants are all operational. “ Tavares said ahead of much of the day’s business.

Announcing major realignments for the United States production facilities, the Nissan Frontier and Xterra construction will be moved from the Smyma, Tennessee plant destined for manufacturing inside the Canton, Mississippi plant. The Canton manufacturing facility already assemblies the Titan full size truck with the Nissan NV commercial van production also set. As for the situation at the Smyma plant, the facility will be bracing for an all-new Infiniti luxury crossover. To be called the JX, the upcoming 2013 Infiniti model will feature three-row seating when introduced for spring of 2012.

Tavares says the ultimate goal is to up Nissan Americas production from 1.1 million to 1.7 million as well as reduce Japanese production dependency for United States sold vehicles. Though the current Japanese crisis could make many believe this planning was a result of a month ago, Nissan initiative is more consistent with their globalization plans playing out through the past decade.

Much of the new vehicle enthusiasm was geared around Nissan’s latest push with all-electric vehicles. Showing off a fun-loving Nissan Leaf purpose-built for racing by Nismo, the prospects of the production Leaf have never been higher. Having 20,000 reservations for one of the many anticipated zero emission vehicles, Nissan admits to presently having a 4-7 month wait at this time due to heavy demand and present conditions in production. Despite the current waiting list, Nissan’s plans to reduce delivery times as much as half when global production capacity of 150,000 Nissan Leafs is met. Currently manufactured in Japan, future North American Nissan Leaf cars will be built at a Smyrna, Tennessee plant in late 2012.

Starting the 2011 New York Auto Show bares a significant reasonability for initializing the enthusiasm of an exhibit. Thanks to Carlos Tavares and Nissan Americas, spectators of the New York event are set to enjoy another feast for the four-wheeled faithful.

Information and photo source: Nissan Americas

Related posts:

Ex-Maserati North America Chief For Sales & Marketing Heads To Fisker

Porsche Celebrates 60 Years in North America

<a href='http://www.automoblog.net/2009/12/08/diesel-vw-beetle-ev-up-coming-to-america/' rel='bookmark' title='Diesel VW Beetle & EV Up! It is a vehicle we’ve known before as the Toyota FT-86 Concept.

The FT-86 Concept was a result of Toyota’s slipping consideration in the the youth market. This problem led to Toyota head Akio Toyoda creating a plan to produce more sporty cars that would help inject excitement into the company. The aim is to bring back a fun-to-drive nature, and the effort is being kicked off with this car.

The FT-86 Concept was first shown at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2009. We’ve been hearing rumors of these vehicles for sometime before that too – this product line has had a long gestation period.

Just in case you didn’t learn it by now, Toyota really wants to make sure you know this car is rear-wheel drive. FR-S stands for front-engined rear-wheel drive and sport. The “concept” moniker is really just in name only, as Scion itself says it previews the production model coming to the lineup in 2012.

The FR-S Concept builds on the styling of the FT-86 Concept, bringing it a step closer to production. The good news is that it has gotten hotter since we’ve last seen it. A stunning Toyota product, imagine that! The proportions are perfect, with an aggressive stance that looks the performance part.

The company says the front end of the design is meant to evoke the Toyota 2000GT, and around the rear we can see strong design influences from the Lexus LFA performance flagship.

As the car was developed in partnership with Subaru, the engine used is a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated boxer four-cylinder. The lightweight nature of the engine and compact footprint leads to a low hood and placement in the chassis is also ideal. The engine is positioned farther aft than usual for optimal weight distribution. All indications lead to an excellent driving experience for this car. We can’t wait to get our hands on it.

The real clincher is the price tag, which is expected to come in around the $20,000 range. The FR-S does confirms the car isn’t coming to the Toyota brand. There has been speculation on whether the car would be launched as a Toyota or Scion in the United States. Now we have our answer. Until the production car arrives check out the monstrous gallery of pictures Scion released below.

Everyone is focusing on the Shanghai Motor Show right now, but Chrysler is looking ahead to the New York International Auto Show with its latest release.

The 200 mid-size sedan has been redesigned for 2011 and Chrysler is aiming to provide some visual excitement to the lineup with a new “S” trim level.

The 200 isn’t known for being the sportiest in its segment, but apparently the company wants to show a different side off with the S.

However the effort is curious because the S is purely an appearance package. Suspension elements are unchanged from the standard car, which is unfortunate. Expect similar S models in this vein to follow in the Chrysler lineup, as the company is planning to debut a 300 S as well.

To announce its S status, the 200 S gets exclusive 18-inch wheels and darkened elements. The formerly chrome door handles and mirrors are now body color, and the grille is finished in black, along with tinted black headlights and Chrysler badging.

As for upgraded features, the interior adds a perforated leather steering wheel, leather seats with suede inserts in the seats and door panels, as well as S badging in the headrests. The company’s CD/DVD/MP3/30 gigabyte hard drive media center is standard, accompanied by a 276-watt Boston Acoustic sound system.

The Pentastar 3.7-liter V-6 under the hood makes 283 horsepower and 260 pound feet of torque, unchanged from the standard car. The S line is set to go on sale this Spring, priced at $26,790 for the sedan, while the convertible checks in at $32,490.

Related posts:

Chrysler Prices 200 Convertible

Chrysler Tries To Push Performance With 200 Super S

Luxury Without the Badge? 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

The Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid Concept Car Exposed

Car Design

Car News

Concept Cars

Hybrid

Lexus

NY Auto Show

concept car

Lexus LF-GH

Lexus LF-GH Concept

New York Auto Show 2011

sport sedan

Even in the least positive times, an auto show and the creations inhabiting the festivity can indulge us with optimism for what the future. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Even in the least positive times, an auto show and the creations inhabiting the festivity can indulge us with optimism for what the future. Through complexities occurring on Japan after the earthquake and tsunami has left only a bleak present state for Toyota automobile production. A much needed treat to a forward look, the Japanese auto company’s Lexus brand is putting on a brave face revealing the latest merger of luxury and performance. Presented with teaser images last week on Automoblog.net, the Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid is presented in full glory in time for its world debut at the 2011 New York International Auto Show.

Expected to project a strong representation for what the upcoming Lexus GS sedan, the 192.5 inch long and 73.6 inch wide LF-Gh design concept overcomes the mundane image of current model vehicle. Allowed to break loose with “a clean sheet of paper“, Lexus Design Division of Toyota implants their impression of the future premium sports sedan in every line carved on the LF-Gh Hybrid. Enacting some sportier styling traits derived from the Lexus IS production model, the concept sedan is realized first for an intimidating front end where Lexus design DNA is given a sharper intent. The side profile of the Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid concept is graceful yet shaping allows emphasis on the sport sedan’s wheels. Chrome-plated 20-inch wheels, the performance rims relays the LF-Gh Hybrid’s aggressive desires with class.

The center grille is placed inside an X-like contour with an illuminated Lexus badge glowing blue for added presentation. Shining bright with LED lighting, headlamps, taillights and fog lights also casts a battle against darkness while using the minimum amount of energy. The Lexus LF-Gh’s daytime running lights and taillights artistically incorporate the letter ‘L’ within the LED flow.

<script type="text/javascript"

A perfect grand touring landscape, the LF-Gh Hybrid’s interior supplies the driver with the richest experience. Meter panel instruments are clearly viewed by the motorist with the promise of intuitive operability. The addition of an analog timepiece is shown off in a regal 3-D display.

Composed as a rear-wheel drive sport sedan concept, the Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid accomplished performance look is to be accompanied by a significant powertrain. A rolling concept car, specific information on propulsion has been revealed in relations to the Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid only to affirm it optimizes a gasoline-electric powertrain. There would likely be few complaints if the current GS 450h’s 3.5 liter gasoline engine with two electric motors setup were maintained on an upcoming production model. It would make the premium sport sedan even more presentable if Lexus improves on the 340 horsepower performance of the 2011 GS 450h.

A hot-selling luxury car brand in the United States, the concept car’s uncovering at the New York International Auto Show is not a surprise. Besides the production interruption of vehicle manufacturing in Japan, Lexus’ first quarter of 2011 is particularly tough on the division in United States sales. As of the end of March, Lexus is trailing competitors Cadillac and Infiniti in overall vehicle sales for the first 3 months of 2011. An ever-evolving premium sedan segment, recent entrants such as the Hyundai Genesis as well as the redesigned BMW 5 Series have upped the stakes in the vehicle category. Targeted as a mid-level sport sedan, the Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid hints to being a great equalizer in the making.

Information and photo source: Toyota Motor Sales USA

Related posts:

Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Revealed

The Lexus CT 200h Compact Hybrid is Coming to the States

Lexus Teases LF-GH Concept Ahead of NYIAS

Automoblog.net - src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Receiving rave reviews for their four-door Panamera sports car since its recent introduction in late 2009, Porsche entrance into this new premium category provided a formidable challenge to incumbent models Maserati Quattroporte and Mercedes-Benz CLS. After just two years, Porsche has realized the rapid advancement of this vehicle class adding a more modest six-cylinder as well as a more aggressive Panamera Turbo in order to earn top standing. As Aston Martin and Audi enter the four-door coupe playing field, BMW as well as Lotus are also slated to enter this hot vehicle territory. All formidable in developing sports cars, Porsche is not prepared to rest on their already attractive Panamera line-up. Set to debut in the United States at the New York International Auto Show in late April, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S is a little better in every way.

Adding a single letter, the Panamera Turbo S features superior engine performance for the four-door sports car. Using the same twin-turbocharged 4.8 liter V-8, power output is coaxed by 50 horsepower and 37 foot-pounds of torque. Applying a set of light, titanium aluminum turbocharger turbine blades as well as reworked engine remapping, 550 horsepower and 563 foot-pounds of torque now propels the Porsche Panamera. Standard on all Panamera Turbo S models, the Sport Chrono Turbo Package allows an extra torque grunt 590 pounds-feet to surge the four-door sport car’s wheels with a momentary boost. If the turbo modification sounds familiar, titanium aluminum turbines and engine management improvements were available on the 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo via the Powerkit package. However, through Panamera Turbo S trim upgrade, Porsche has found the ability to squeeze a few extra beats over the Turbo Powerkit.

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S four-door sports car’s power maximization allows acknowledgement in the crucial specification of engine power, true Porsche enthusiasts know the reputation of the German performance car builder is positioned around balanced handling. Suspension and braking from the Panamera Turbo guides the S model over various road surfaces. Assisting the driver in harnessing this new bounty of power, the Panamera Turbo S offers the added hand electronic aids. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus traction control and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control assures the Panamera Turbo S maintains the brand’s reputation for balanced performance handling.

Handling and engine performance in harmony, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S achieves near magical results. The enhanced twin-turbocharged V-8 launches the Panamera Turbo S from 0 to 60 miles per hour in swift 3.6 seconds. Bettering the standard Turbo model by 0.4 seconds, Porsche Panamera Turbo S also inherits a 2 mile per hour increase in top speed. In spite of the increased power, Porsche has largely maintained fuel efficiency of the 500 horsepower Panamera Turbo model.

Visually, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S has undergone a subtle adjustment in the name of the S model designation. One addition to the Turbo S version of the Panamera is an extending rear spoiler featuring four-way positioning. Through the application of side skirts, the rear track widens for increased ground coverage. Adopted from the same Turbo II wheel used on the 2012 Porsche 911 Black Edition, the Panamera Turbo S wears rims of a 20-inch diameter. An Agale gray metallic is added to the Panamera Turbo S exterior paint code. Unique colours expression is also performed within the four-seat cabin of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S. Black or gray can be blended with a cream tone for a racy two-tone appearance over interior leather.

Set for a prompt release after its 2011 New York International Auto Show unveiling, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S will roll into dealerships for late spring. Retail price for the Panamera Turbo S starts at $173,200 US.

Information source: Porsche Cars North America

Photo source: Porsche Cars via Newspress UK

Related posts:

Porsche Personalization adds Power and Pizazz to Panamera

Porsche Panamera Spy Shots – Uncloaked

Porsche Panamera Hybrid Bows at Geneva

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Lexus Teases LF-GH Concept Ahead of NYIAS

Car News

Concept Cars

Lexus

NY Auto Show

Concept

Lexus Concept

Lexus LF-GH

Lexus LF-GH Concept

LF-GH

LF-GH Concept

Lexus isn’t known for a daring styling language or engaging driving experience. Instead, Lexus has made a name for itself offering quiet and composed luxury. In other words, not terribly exciting. That has been a winning recipe however, as evidenced by Lexus’ rein at the top of the sales charts since 2000.

The past few years have seen some signs that consumers are looking for something different though – this year Mercedes-Benz and BMW are ahead in sales. Lexus models like the IS and IS F have aimed to offer a more sporting character, but the rest of the Lexus lineup hasn’t followed suit.

Lexus is looking to change that with its lineup of next-generation vehicles. The current GS Sedan, while rear-wheel drive, is dated and uncompetitive with the crop of mid-size luxury sedans. Given it is such a high volume segment, it is imperative that Lexus step up its game.

The New York International Auto Show is later this month, and Lexus is showing off a new LF-GH concept that aims to show the styling future of the Lexus brand. It also gives us a good hint of what to expect for the next-generation GS. The teasers show the rear taillight and front headlight. And surprise – we like what we see. Could this be what Lexus needs to turn up the excitement and create a defining design language for itself? We’ll find out soon enough when the car debuts at the New York show.

Related posts:

Detroit 2012: Lexus Teases Concept Previewing Bolder Design

The Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid Concept Car Exposed

Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Revealed

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Chevrolet Issues Teaser Video on 2013 Malibu

Car Design

Car News

Chevy

Cool Sites

GM

iPhone

NY Auto Show

Video

2013 cars

2013 Chevrolet

2013 Malibu

auto show

Chevrolet

Chevrolet Malibu

Facebook

Providing a brief teaser video in their Facebook page, Chevrolet readies the launch of their most important mid-sized sedan, the 2013 Malibu. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Providing a brief teaser video in their Facebook page, Chevrolet readies the launch of their most important mid-sized sedan, the 2013 Malibu. Giving a momentary peek at the next generation family sedan, styling input was clearly garnered off the preciously regarded Chevrolet Camaro (inspiration that needs no apologies). Lead exterior designer of the upcoming Chevrolet Malibu Dan Gifford narrated the intent for the new car’s shape as being more “athletic” and “aggressive“. Focused on “strong wheel-oriented forms“, Gifford continued describing the benefits of the 2013 Malibu’s additional width. The hood and deck lid are also detailed by featuring “dynamic surfaces” which will manipulate light.

Chevrolet has also detailed the powerplant expectations for the next Malibu as derived from a family of four-cylinder engines. To be built on the same Epsilon II platform as the Buick Regal, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is likely to feature a turbocharged and eAssist model. All engines will run through one of the 2013 Malibu’s 6-speed transmissions (assume both a manual and automatic option).

As Chevrolet continues to assert itself as a global brand, the next generation Malibu is positioned for an important role as a world car. Forecasted for nearly 100 markets around the globe, the auto company took special considers for the official unveiling their sedan with equal regard across the planet. Using a location where much of the world shares easing access, the Internet will be the site where General Motors opts to introduce potential customers and automotive fans to the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on April 18th. Most specifically occuring on April 18th at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time, Chevy’s social network page on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/chevrolet) as well as Apple iPad and iPhone devices will offer live streaming of the 2013 Malibu’s grand exhibition.

Born as a dressed-up version of the Chevrolet Chevelle, the Malibu name borrowed from a sunny locale within California. Outliving the Chevelle, the Chevrolet Malibu would endure from 1964 to 1983 as a hot-selling workhorse for the popular American auto brand. The Chevrolet Malibu was forced in 1984 to give way to the front-wheel drive Celebrity as marketing slowly began to retire the brand’s longer running nameplates in favour of newer, fresher model names.

In the mid 1990s, Chevrolet had second thoughts on populating their model line-up with newer, unfamiliar names. In 1997, Chevrolet resurrected the Malibu name to be worn on the brand’s Corsica sedan replacement. A welcomed return in the 1997 model year, the Chevrolet Malibu’s qualifications as a solid mid-sized sedan was never enough to match wits with inside the highly competitive North American family car category. Faced against the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, neither the 1997 reintroduction nor the 2004 redesign massively penetrated the Japanese sedan’s US sales success. Massive improvements in 2008 saw the Malibu gain significant ground on the Camry and Accord inside a now even more competitive market.

Debuting to the world on-line, the first physical auto show presence of the 2013 Malibu will be on April 19th at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show in China. The first time North American auto fans will be able to witness Chevrolet’s mid-sized refit is set for the 2011 New York Auto Show starting on April 23rd.

Not only having to live up for a series of well-received new product releases including the Camaro, Equinox and Cruze, the additional marketing pressure of almost 100 countries has the days for the next Malibu far from a relaxing trip to the beach.

Information and photo source: General Motors

Related posts:

2013 Chevrolet Malibu Logs 1 Million Miles

2013 Chevy Malibu Coupe Not In The Plan For Now

2013 Chevy Malibu Debuts at Shanghai

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

2011 Acura TSX Adds Sport Wagon

Acura

Car News

NY Auto Show

TSX

tsx sport wagon

Having existed for almost 25 years as a premium luxury brand for Honda, Acura is beginning to graciously mature from its infancy where the V-TEC Intregra and NSX were creatures of a raw, rebellious influence to posher motoring. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Having existed for almost 25 years as a premium luxury brand for Honda, Acura is beginning to graciously mature from its infancy where the V-TEC Intregra and NSX were creatures of a raw, rebellious influence to posher motoring. Premiering at the 2010 New York Auto Show, the company’s entry-level TSX model receives the ultimate staple of settling into suburbia. The cover was officially removed off the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon, this is a direct salvo blast against European sport wagons the BMW 3 Series Touring and the Audi A4 Avant.

Weathering the craze which saw under-powered minivans and gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles ruling the market segment rule nearly two decades, the car-based wagon is in vogue again. The first true wagon to wear the Acura badge, the TSX Sport Wagon’s arrival is credited to a resurgence in the practical car body style.

Stretched 3.3 inches beyond the TSX sedan, the Acura TSX Sport Wagon retains the smooth, masculine look. Radiating with an intense European influence, this new Acura offering has been pulled off the narrower streets located on the west side of the Atlantic Ocean. The Acura TSX Sport Wagon, like the sedan counterpart, is a rebadged version built on the European Honda Accord. The European Accord had been sold as a wagon (or called Tourer through marketing language) since 2002. With the exterior design carefully marrying utility with sport sedan, the TSX Sport Wagon is vamped with 17 inch aluminum wheels.

Inside, the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon’s stature opens-up the full potential of a mid-sized vehicle. Translating into a maximum cabin space of 41.77 cubic feet for cargo space, the spacious interior features clever touches such as a underfloor storage unit. Comfortably seating five passenger in standard leather seating, the TSX Sport Wagon’s rear cargo capacity is still a commendable 14.3 cubic feet. The typical Acura high-tech, high-fashion luxury appointments including Bluetooth connectivity as well as an available Acura Navigation System and hard-drive electronic storage for destinations or music content.

Though the TSX sedan has been rejoicing with the 280 horsepower jolt of the V-6 engine added this year, the TSX Sport Wagon will only feature the 201 horsepower, 2.4 liter i-VTEC inline-four for the debut. Further limiting the performance potential is the lack of the 6-speed manual to the TSX Sport Wagon. Running Acura’s 5-speed SportShift automatic offering manually-controlled shifting, a 0 to 60 mile per hour time of approximately 9.5 seconds makes this TSX more Wagon than Sport. Better fulfilling the urban utility, the four-cylinder powerplant does promise exceptional highway fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon. Outdoing the Japanese luxury brand’s RDX sport utility, the TSX Sport Wagon fuel consumption compares favourably over the Audi A4 Avant.

Going on sale late fall of 2010, Acura TSX Sport Wagon is another one in the new range of premium practical vehicles ideal for showing up the other parents at little league games.

Related posts:

Acura Prices 2011 TSX Sport Wagon

Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon Debuts At New York

Caddy Rolls Out All-New SRX Crossover & CTS Sport Wagon

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

The New Scion tC Bows At New York

Car News

NY Auto Show

Scion

tC

The second- generation Scion 2011 tC sports coupe debuted at the New York International Auto Show this week. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

The second- generation Scion 2011 tC sports coupe debuted at the New York International Auto Show this week. The tC is scheduled to arrive in dealerships later this fall, and brings with it a host of new goodies, making for a pretty desirable ride.

“The all-new tC features styling that is both refined and aggressive, appealing to a sports coupe owner who wants to make a bold statement. The tC has had the youngest median age buyer in the industry, and with more power, superior driving dynamics, and increased fuel efficiency, that should remain the case with the new tC as well,” said Jack Hollis, vice president of Scion.

The most noteworthy aspect of the new tC is power. The second-generation tC arrives with an all-new 2.5- liter inline four-cylinder engine with dual VVT-i that cranks out 180 horsepower, which is 19 more than the previous version. Added to that is an additional 11 lbs.-ft of torque, and you can see where the tC could be a very interesting option. You not only get more power, but you also get an increase in fuel economy all while lowering emissions. There is also a new intake manifold design and a sport-tuned exhaust system that delivers a “bold and aggressive sound”.

Tranny-wise the latest tC gives you the choice of two all-new transmissions: the six-speed manual transmission is said to have improved shift-feel and adds to the car’s already fun-to-drive character, and a new six-speed automatic gains two gears along with sequential-shift.

The 2011 tC rides on a completely new platform, including a specially tuned MacPherson strut front-suspension and a double-wishbone rear-suspension. The latest tC rides lower than the previous model. There are larger 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in wider tires. The new model also comes standard with larger 16-inch disc brakes on all corners, meaning that it should whoa up like the business. The tC also has a new performance-tuned electronic power-steering system.

The 2011 tC comes standard with an AM/FM/CD/USB audio system that features eight speakers. As with all Scion models, steering-wheel-mounted controls allow the driver to easily navigate through all of their music.

The new tC also has standard Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control (TRAC), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Active front-headrests and eight airbags are also standard, including both driver and front-passenger knee airbags.

Photos: Scion

Related posts:

The All-New Scion iQ

Redesigned 2011 Scion xB Pricing Announced

Scion Uncovers the Ultra-Blue xB Release Series 8.0

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

The All-New Scion iQ

Car News

NY Auto Show

Scion

iQ

New York Auto Show 2010

The all-new 2011 iQ premium micro-subcompact rolled out at the New York International Auto Show this week. The iQ will define the premium micro-subcompact segment as the choice for new urbanites who want clever transportation without a sacrifice in style or new features,” said Jack Hollis, vice president of Scion.

The Scion iQ hopes to meet the needs of a new generation of urban drivers by putting big ideas into a small package. Scion says the iQ has “intelligent and functional packaging,” and that it offers the functionality and comfort that drivers expect from a car twice its size.

Besides the iQ’s diminutive size, the most notable thing about the car is its “3+1” seating arraignment. The driver’s and front-passenger’s seats are slightly off set, allowing for one adult behind the front passenger and a child, small package, or pet behind the driver. The rear seats are extremely versatile, featuring a 50/50 split and the ability to fold flat, creating enough storage to accommodate up to two golf bags.

And like I said, the iQ is tiny. With a 78.7-inch wheelbase and a unique suspension design, MacPherson struts up front, and a torsion beam rear suspension, the three-door hatchback should be able to deftly maneuver through city traffic. The overall length of the iQ is only 120.1-inches, the width of 66.1-inches, and short front and rear overhangs create a confident stance that still allows the iQ to fit into virtually any urban parking scenario.

They really worked over the under-skin engineering as well, with such innovations as a compact air-conditioning unit, inverted front-mounted differential, and electronic power-steering system with compact steering column. Also, the iQ is equipped with a flat gas tank housed beneath the floor that reduces rear overhang.

Scion has also seen fit to give the iQ active safety features such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Traction Control (TRAC).

Airbags? No worries there. The iQ will come standard with 10 SRS airbags, including the world’s first rear-window curtain airbag. There are also airbags for the driver- and front-passenger; driver- and front-passenger seat-mounted side airbags; side curtain airbags; driver- and front-passenger knee airbags; and a Scion-first driver seat-cushion airbag.

Engine-wise, the 2011 iQ is equipped with a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces over 90 horsepower and features the latest dual VVT-i valvetrain gizmo. Yeah, not much, but Scion goes with the Tuner crown the way peanut butter goes with jelly – so you know that “over 90 horsepower” figure won’t last for long.

And speaking of the tuner crowd, the iQ comes standard with a six-speaker audio system and is available with multiple audio head units for various degrees of audiophiles. And all iQs will be outfitted with USB and auxiliary ports, allowing personal devices to be easily integrated into the car. There are steering-wheel-mounted controls to command the audio system to adjust volume and shuffle through music sources such as CD, AM/FM, auxiliary input, or a library from your iPod® or other USB device.

UPDATE: 2012 Scion iQ Review

Photos: Scion

Related posts:

The New Scion tC Bows At New York

Redesigned 2011 Scion xB Pricing Announced

Scion FR-S Concept Shows FT-86 A Step Closer to Production

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

2011 Mazda2 Starting at $13,980 – Details Announced

Car News

Mazda

NY Auto Show

compact

Mazda2

As the current trend of small cars grows (figuratively,) we’re seeing car makers shrinking models down as small as they can go. Most of the smallest cars are focusing on one thing – efficiency – in the form of fuel economy and price. Fortunately, we have at least one brand who values the driving experience, making a fun-to-drive car, THEN making it economical and practical.

At the 2010 New York Auto Show, Mazda announced pricing and more details on the upcoming all-new Mazda2 – and dubbed it “Zoom-Zoom Concentrated.” The 2011 Mazda2 plans to go on sale this July, starting at a reasonable $13,980 ($14,730 with destination charge) – putting it squarely up against the Nissan Versa, Chevy Aveo, and Toyota Yaris – along with the upcoming Ford Fiesta and Fiat 500. The Mazda2, as you may have guessed, is going to focus on being a fun to drive car and less on the “premium” segment (like the Fiesta) and the plastic econo-box image (like the Aveo, Yaris, and Versa.)

The 2011 Mazda2 has two trim levels available – Sport and Touring. The Sport trim gets some decent standard equipment, including ABS, traction and stability control, 15-inch steel wheels, A/C, power windows and locks, auxiliary jack, keyless entry, and tilt steering wheel. Sadly, cruise control is not standard. For $15,435, the Touring model gets you that cruise control along with upgraded seat cloth with red piping, 15-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, rear spoiler, chrome exhaust tip, leather-wrapped steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, trip computer and a six-speaker stereo system.

Both trims get only one engine – a 1.5-liter, 100 horsepower, four-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. Please people, pick the manual transmission.

It’s good to see a car like this coming to the North American market, we’ve needed cars like this for a while. A car, despite what the current market suggests, can be both economical and fun to drive. I hope Mazda sees as much success with this one over here as they have over in Europe.

Related posts:

2011 Mazda2 Review

Mazda to Unveil Mazda2 Compact at LA Auto Show

Three Mazda2 Concepts Unveiled at LA Auto Show

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

New Sonata Hybrid Unveiled by Hyundai

Car News

Electric

Hybrid

Hyundai

NY Auto Show

Sonata

Today in New York (at the Auto Show) Hyundai rolled out the all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

Today in New York (at the Auto Show) Hyundai rolled out the all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. It is the first vehicle in the automotive industry to offer three new fuel-efficient powertrain technologies: Gasoline direct-injection (GDI), twin-scroll turbochargers, and full-hybrid powertrains.

“The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the new kid on the block, but it’s not a follower. Its full parallel hybrid configuration and breakthough lithium polymer batteries offer a new take on traditional hybrid design, while its unique design sets it apart from the mid-size hybrid pack,” says John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America.

The in house-developed Hybrid Blue Drive architecture is a full on parallel hybrid drive system. It can operate on an electric motor, gasoline internal combustion engine, and a combination of the two depending on driving conditions and driver demands. Hybrid Blue Drive differs from the “power split” technology used by most competitors, to allow significant efficiency returns at higher speeds. Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive is the first, and so far, only system using lithium polymer battery technology.

Hyundai says that using lithium polymer offers benefits such as robustness, power-density and package flexibility, that make it ideal for automotive applications. The Hybrid Blue Drive also is unique in its use of the company’s own highly efficient, compact new 6-speed transmission, modified with hybrid starter-generator, electric motor, and low-friction oil pump, which together allow the elimination of the traditional torque converter.

“Hyundai applies advanced technologies to vehicles to provide the best solutions for the everyday driver. Unlike traditional hybrids that trade off highway fuel economy for higher city ratings, the Sonata Hybrid delivers best-in-class highway fuel economy, while still delivering about a 40 percent improvement in city fuel economy compared to a Sonata equipped with the Theta II GDI engine. We think this is a better balanced approach for the majority of car buyers,” said Krafcik.

The Sonata Hybrid has a projected highway fuel economy of 39 mpg and a city fuel economy of 37 mpg. This seems to be the opposite of most car manufacturer’s hybrid strategy, which elevates city MPG over highway mileage. But according to Hyundai, government studies have shown that the typical U.S. driver operates in a highway mode 57 percent of the time. Hyundai also says that the Sonata Hybrid delivers typical hybrid fuel economy gains in the city like its competitors, but also gives owners outstanding fuel economy on the highway, where these competitors fall short.

The Sonata Hybrid delivers electric-vehicle operation at steady-state speeds of up to 62 miles per hour. After that, the gas engine kicks in, depending on the state of charge, acceleration and vehicle speed. The two propulsion units develop a total output of 209 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and 195 lb-ft of torque. The new Sonata tips the scales at 3,457 pounds, which is pretty heavy for a car that size, but is still 263 pounds lighter than the Fusion Hybrid, by way of comparison.

Photos: Hyundai

Related posts:

Hyundai Sonata Travels 2,269.3 Miles in Less Than Two Tanks

Hyundai Gives Next Generation Sonata a Facelift

2011 Hyundai Sonata

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts

Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon Debuts At New York

Cadillac

Car News

NY Auto Show

CTS

CTS-V

CTS-V Sport Wagon

wagon

OK, Caddy says it’s just a “show car” but this looks pretty production ready, and it fits in with Cadillac wanting to broaden its product range, and become a bigger player in the European market. Euros love station wagons, or estates or shooting-brakes or Avants as they refer to them across the pond. Europeans look at station wagons the way we look at SUVs: Practical cars that you can use in a variety of different ways and take the whole family on a vacation. So what does the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon have to offer?

The short list read like this: V-Series performance thanks to a 556-hp (415-kW) supercharged 6.2L V-8. A six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with steering wheel shift controls. Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

Sounds pretty good for any type of car, let alone a wagon.

“The CTS-V Sport Wagon is a natural extension of both the V-Series and the CTS lineup, offering an uncompromising performance car to enthusiasts who want the extra room of a wagon. The V-Series Sport Wagon is another hallmark of the dramatic presence and power of Cadillac vehicles,” said Don Butler, vice president for Cadillac marketing.

<script type="text/javascript"

The outside is finished in Midnight Silver, which was first seen on the Cadillac Sixteen Concept (which Caddy really should have built, if you ask me). The wheels are done up in “lustrous” Liquid Silver-finished and there’s a black chrome finish on the grille’s mesh insert. The rear fascia, upper spoiler and center high-mounted stop lamp are also unique to the show car.

On the inside, the CTS-V Sport Wagon is trimmed in exclusive black leather with nifty Alcantara accents. The upper section of the instrument panel and upper door panels are covered in the same premium leather as the seats and are accented with midnight Sapele wood. Microfiber material and stitching is applied to the lower door panels, pillars, console lid, headliner and steering wheel center. The fine-grain black leather-trimmed Recaro seats with Alcantara seat inserts are divided in the center and accented with dark gray stitching, while the V-series logo is laser etched into the seatbacks. Obsidian Black accents grace the center stack, console, steering wheel and door panels.

Wagon or no, sounds like Cadillac has a winner on their hands.

Photos: Cadillac

Related posts:

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon Pricing Revealed

Caddy Rolls Out All-New SRX Crossover & CTS Sport Wagon

Cadillac Introduces CTS-V Black Diamond Edition

Automoblog.net - A Car Blog for Auto Enthusiasts
