For both auto shows, general adult admission is $12 at the gate. For the 2011 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show, individuals over 65 of age are given $8 show entrance while children under 12 are admitted free with an adult. The Los Angeles International Auto Show is this week, and it is set to host quite a few debuts. We’re under 48 hours from the start of the show, and it looks like good things are in store. From Ford, we’ve seen the updated 2013 Flex already, as well as teasers for updated Lincoln MKS and MKT models.

Today, Ford has revealed a teaser image of its updated 2013 Mustang on Facebook. An updated Mustang? It doesn’t seem that long ago that Ford was releasing the 2010 model. Especially the rear taillights; most we’ve talked to prefer the 2005-2009 models rather than the current look. Look for the 2013 to fix some of this; but don’t expect huge changes. The 2013 is a freshening rather than a complete redesign.

Rich details from the original could be used in a modern way for the new model, much like Ford’s retro modern update to the 2013 Flex.

When it comes to Ford performance vehicles, they are all over the map in terms of designations. That might change a bit in the future though. as the company has indicated ST could be coming to more models. At the Los Angeles International Auto Show later in the month, Ford will be debuting the production Focus ST, which was previewed by a concept model.

The Focus ST has been billed as Ford’s first truly global performance vehicle. Now Ford is announcing the five-door Fiesta ST, which is also being billed as a “concept” at first. Most likely, it is anything but. It follows a three-door model that was shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Suped up hatchbacks have never really been a presence in the United States like they are in other countries, but with the Fiesta, Focus and other manufacturers having small hatches on the market, that could change.

For instance, who wouldn’t want to see a Mazdaspeed 2? It’d be pretty neat. Ford is testing the waters on the idea with the Fiesta ST. The Fiesta ST follows a similar template to the Focus ST before it, and Ford says that’s the whole point. “With the Fiesta ST Concept, we are demonstrating that our global performance plan has legs,” says Jost Capito, Ford director of Global Performance Vehicles..the Fiesta ST Concept shows in the most dramatic way possible that the qualities that define an ST are not limited to one model….the potential for delivering the ST experience to an even wider audience is laid bare by this exciting new concept.”

They sound pretty excited about it. Following the Focus ST’s mould means a distinctive, gaping maw front end, more aggressive, blacked out headlights, 17-inch wheels and a body kit. Power comes from an Ecoboost (what else?) 1.6-liter four-cylinder, delivering 180 horsepower and 177 pound feet of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Amongst the California sun, the image conscious motorists of the state are eager to be seen in the newest, most sought over premium vehicle. At the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, German auto company BMW provided a centerpiece of droptop excitement as the completely redesigned 650i Convertible premiered.

While the previous creations giving a peek at the future 6-Series wore the word “concept” in it’s title. As the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show provided the first marque for showing the new BMW convertible, this car also the first United States showing of the 2012 BMW 6-Series giving first definitive answers to the North American version of the vehicle.

As expected, the styling of the BMW 6-Series cars appears reminiscent to the Concept Gran Coupe BMW as well as the most recent Concept 6-Series shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Starting with the more protruded kidney grille and traveling along the more aggressively contoured side, the new production BMW 6-Series exterior design flows effortlessly. Resisting the allure of retractable hardtop roofs, BMW 6-Series Convertible engineers elected to maintain a multi-layer softtop to cover the cozy interior. A 2+2 interior layout, the 2012 BMW 650i Convertible interior shell is created with high quality materials. A trademark of all BMWs continues to reign inside this 6-Series convertible as a driver-oriented cockpit enhances the motoring experience. BMW touts a new-generation Heads-Up Display as a multi-coloured, 3-dimensional driving aid. For the new BMW 650i Convertible, manual and automatic transmission choices are offered. For a ‘wind-in-your-air convertible experience, the 6-speed manual returns to this BMW personal luxury vehicle. An automatic option for the 2012 BMW 650i Convertible allows for graceful cruising but provides a less-compromised performance potential. New for the 2012 model year 6-Series, a 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission has been skillfully orchestrated for fast gear shifts. BMW’s Sport Automatic gearbox also features a manual shifting feature if the Sunday drive to the country club needs a little spunk. A 0 to 60 mile per hour time of 4.9 seconds is promised with both the manual and automatic gearboxes.

For BMW lovers awaiting more performance, the possibility of a new M6 convertible could see as much as 550 horsepower being sent on route to the rear axle. With rumours indicating the next M5 is due for release as a 2013 model (some say as early as 2012), the wait for a BMW M6 is not far.

Settling for the artificial light inside of the Los Angeles, the 2012 BMW 650i Convertible’s roll-out in early-to-mid 2011 will provide an ideal vehicle to bask in natural sunlight.

Over fifty years ago, the Cadillac badge was worn by some of the grandest land yachts. As the era of loads of chrome and tons of steel departed quite some time ago, it had been evident that the American luxury car brand Cadillac was extremely slow in adapting to a changing motoring climate. Foreign-derived luxury cars of BMW and Lexus demonstrated through the 1990s, the market’s standard of luxury is not justified with heavy cars.

The Cimarron and Catera were two poorly-executed vehicles as General Motors merely handed Cadillac some underpowered small cars. In those two attempts, the vehicles were based off already existing platforms and Cadillac failed terribly at hiding that fact. It wasn’t until 2002 that GM’s top luxury division finally achieved premium quality on a smaller vehicle. The Cadillac CTS proved that the division could at least build an exciting mid-sized luxury sedan and lessons seem to be paying dividends on the SRX crossover vehicle. Despite this success, the Escalade and DTS continues to weigh down the Cadillac division (figuratively as well as literally). At the Los Angeles Auto Show, a major contradiction to the Classic Cadillac image is showing American luxury and style in a concept car smaller than a Scion xD.

The Cadillac Utility Luxury Concept is a cutting edge design study investigating how an American-branded premium vehicle could be sculpted to accommodate the tightest city confines. Only 151 inches in length, this urban concept vehicle is 39.4 inches shorter than the Cadillac CTS. In prospective to previous Cadillac products, the Urban Luxury Concept can fit inside the wheelbase of a 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy Five limousine. Also 68.1 inches wide and 56.9 inches in height, it is worth noting in a historical standpoint the Utility Luxury Concept is actually not the smallest Cadillac ever conceived. Prior to 1909, Cadillac had built several chassis structures shorter than the 97.1 inch length of this late 2010 concept vehicle.

The super compact design of this Cadillac etches a great deal of cues found on the larger production vehicles belonging to the luxury division. A pair of sweeping roof A-pillars, the stacked headlights and the large grille are all Cadillac staples translating well on to the Utility Luxury Concept car. Showing off a hybrid powertrain, a tiny turbocharged 1-liter, three-cylinder engine is the gasoline unit for the Cadillac Utility Luxury Concept. In what is defined as a gas/electric hybrid configuration, electric assist technology combines with a start/stop function which shuts off the gas engine off automatically at a stand-still. This unique Cadillac concept also incorporates regenerative braking and a dual-clutch transmission to optimize fuel economy. The Cadillac Utility Luxury Concept delivers surprising efficiency for a vehicles wearing the brand’s crest. According to the car’s designers, fuel mileage expectations is estimated at 56 miles per gallon city and 65 miles per gallon highway.

The Cadillac Utility Luxury Concept, inviting show car? Yes! Production reality? Not likely! As luxury car companies are confronted with the 21st century of automotive technology, we should be prepared to see some considerable changes to the mass of premium driving. Cadillac’s arch-rival Lincoln has already confirmed a B-segment compact car on the production horizon coinciding with several foreign luxury makers going small for big posturing.

Surprising many at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, Japanese automaker Subaru premiered an exciting new concept car giving observers a vivid peek at the brand’s next compact sedan. The Subaru Impreza Concept unearths a dynamic out-of-the-box view from the all-wheel drive specialist.

Motivated by the brand’s emerging brand identity as “Confidence in Motion”, Subaru asserts that this Impreza concept adapts a striking collection of shapes and textures which is yet evident in their production cars. ”Through “Confidence in Motion”, we will continue to establish the relationship of confidence with more customers and further strengthen our Subaru brand.” Ikuo Mori, President of Subaru’s parent company Fiji Heavy Industries Ltd. said at the Los Angeles Auto Show’s press conference.

A sign of a new dimension of Subaru design, the Impreza Concept’s exterior is quite a defining sculpture constructed with remarkable simplicity. Little less than an inch longer in wheelbase, the Impreza Concept is considerably lower than the existing Subaru Impreza. This concept sedan by Subaru is even 1.8 inches shorter in overall height than a 2011 Impreza WRX. Performance-oriented front and rear styling charges emotion into the vehicle’s potential handling prowess while the silky smooth side is intentionally purposeful. “Hawk-eye-style” headlamps glow within the hexagonal front end form. Wheel arches are placed to emphasize the Subaru all-wheel drive system which launches the Impreza Concept. Though largely original, Subaru has apparently borrowed a chapter from the 1990s Chrysler “cab-forward” design. On the Impreza Concept, Subaru has stretched the concept car’s roof front A-pillar and rear C-pillar to not only cast a more sporty, aerodynamic look but to improve interior space.

In regards to the Subaru Impreza concept’s cabin, seating is provided comfortably for four occupants on premium leather. Stylishly surrounded by blue piping and stitching, the Impreza Concept interior flow is focused upwards at a very luminescent dash panel. A multi-function center touchscreen controlling audio, navigation as well as vehicle information. The steering wheel integrates touch screen interfaces for what Subaru recognizes as stress-free use. Subaru’s advanced safety system aid called Eyesight uses sensors to alert driver of a collision or potential slow down the vehicle itself. Video through Eyesight Stereo Camera is provided via an in-dash monitor.

Spotlighting a radical, new design, the Subaru Impreza Concept conceals a differing drivetrain from the current production Impreza. Promoting a potentially new brand identity for future Subaru vehicles, we should not be surprised if the next production-based Subaru Impreza will strictly adhere to the framework of this concept vehicle.

As was stated with Toyota’s partnership with Tesla formed earlier this year, there was going to be a mutual benefit to the furthering of electric vehicles. As Tesla Motors received much-needed finances and use of the former NUMMI plant in California, Toyota would obtain the upstart electric auto company’s applied expertise in electric powertrain manufacturing. Unveiled at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, the electric version of the Toyota RAV4 is officially given a once-over first by journalists and later by auto show spectators. Presenting 1 of 35 demonstrated models of the RAV4 EV which is admittedly retrofitted with an electric powertrain, Toyota has defined this prototype vehicle part of “Phase Zero”. President of Toyota Motors Sales USA Jim Lentz affirmed that continuing development of the Phase Zero RAV4 EVs will lead to enhancements to a 2012 production version.

The small sport utility vehicle will be built similar to fuel-burning RAV4 models at the Woodstock, Ontario, Canada plant. Small adjusts to the interior and exterior are performed to differentiate Toyota RAV4 EV from conventional RAV4 models. A new front end fascia involves a smaller grille opening (a customary design move since the cooling needs of an electric vehicle is far less than one powered by an internal combustion engine). Specialized EV badging and exterior paint colour described as ‘mutually exclusive’ are also found on this Toyota RAV4 EV. Interior enhancement for the RAV4 EV features special seating, multimedia dash and a push-button gear shifter.

RAV4 products destined for the EV treatment will be sent from Woodstock (absent powertrain components) to Tesla’s Palo Alto, California facility. In the Tesla plant, a battery, electrical motor and hardware will be installed to complete the 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV. Full technical specifications are yet to be determined for the production vehicle but the RAV4 EV will run for between 80-110 miles on a charge which can be facilitated from a 220-volt household charger.

Pricing details for the 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV are yet to be announced but Toyota USA president Lentz commented that the auto company will do everything possible to make it reasonable. “Providing a compelling product is one thing. Creating an attractive value proposition is another.” Lentz said in the press conference in Los Angeles.

A highly-public champion for the usage of electrical powertrains, Toyota’s first charged-up the North American marketplace with the Prius. Now, with almost 10 years of sales in United States, the Toyota Prius and its Hybrid Synergy Drive has bred 6 other current Toyota and Lexus products using a hybrid power. On-deck for the Prius is a plug-in hybrid version planned for sales within a year.

Before Toyota Prius roamed the American streets and the dreams of environmentalists, the Toyota RAV4 was in fact an early test bed for all-electric vehicle power. In 1997, a first generation Toyota RAV4 EV was built created as an auto industry-wide attempt to pay lip service to California ill-fated and poorly-backed initiative to have 10 percent of their state’s vehicles run on electric propulsion by the year 2000. Incredibly, 746 of these first-gen RAV4 electrics remain in existence as road-worthy vehicles.

Toyota’s respect for their early electric vehicle is unlike the practice of now green car corporate stumpers General Motors and Honda. Leasing their vehicles at the time as the first Toyota RAV4′s sales, once the California state law was abolished, both companies made a legal decision to viciously destroy much of the practical evidence relating to their early electric car work.

In little more than a year, the reaction to the 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV will determine if the Toyota/Tesla pairing flatters each other with a mutual attractiveness as a proton and electron.

Wearing a standard front and rear spoiler obtained through the existing Cayman Aerokit. Standard on the Porsche Cayman R, the Bold “PORSCHE’ branded striping is not required to remark the brilliance and beauty of the classically derived sports car shape, the company often defines their proudest achievements within racing stripes. Black headlamp frames and mirrors completes the 2012 Porsche Cayman R styling.

In creating the 2012 R version, the Porsche Cayman’s body now rests 0.79 inches lower than the Cayman S thanks to a specialized sports suspension. Holding tighter to the ground, improved center of gravity translates into fluid handling in corners and more aerodynamic utilization in a straight line. Lightweight 19 inch wheels reduces the unsprung weight of the vehicle further enhancing the Cayman R’s manners. Also driven by the initiative of reducing weight, the Porsche Cayman R replaces door panels with aluminum reducing the weight by 33 pounds.

For premium car buyers who justify their new car purchases with the latest in convenience technology, the 2012 Porsche Cayman R jazzy, multi-colour interior is fueled by the outer performance desires. Notable absences inside the Porsche Cayman R is cup holder and the stereo system (though a premium audio system and a navigation computer can be optioned). The Cayman R’s sport bucket seats featuring carbon fiber backing and Alcantara construction is said by Porsche to have shaved 26 pounds from the vehicle’s total weight.

With all the weight-shaving attention, curb weight of the Porsche Cayman R is 2,855 pounds with a 6-speed manual or 2,910 fitted with the 7-speed, twin-clutch PDK transmission. In translation, this Cayman R model weighs less than a base Porsche Cayman.

Coupled with the aerodynamic enhancements, the power to the ground is left as the only ingredient in making the 2012 Porsche Cayman R a full package. Entering the 197 Porsche dealerships of the United States for February 2011, the 2012 Porsche Cayman R will start at a $66,300 base price.

Another year, another Scion Release Series. This time it’s the xB RS 8.0, which will be officially unveiled in a few days at the 2010 LA Auto Show.

As the name suggests, this will be the eighth version of the limited-run RS xB. What does Scion have in store for this one?

First up, and perhaps most obvious is an all new color, something Scion calls “Voodoo Blue.” It doesn’t have quite the depth of the “Speedway Blue” found on the recent Scion tC RS 6.0, but looks really good. Wearing the new color is an all-around body kit styled by Kenstyle, who has done the RS body kits for Scion in the past.
