]]> Wednesday, May 2nd marks the first fatal accident of the Gumball 3000, which is surprising, considering the shenanigans these guys tend to pull at high-speed. Back in 2002 I bought the Mischief 3000 DVD and got interested in the Gumball that way. Actually, it’s a pretty cool DVD if you want to see a first-person view of the Gumball; it’s rather entertaining.

An adult Macedonian male aged 67 died in hospital from a heart attack following the incident where the two cars collided. The participants in the rally were held in custody last night with a preliminary court judgement expected today.


His wife (the passenger) also passed away in the hospital after staying in critical condition for 2 days. From what I understand, two men in a TechArt Porsche 911 were speeding along as a VW Golf pulled out from a stop sign. Speed Racer and his passenger (Nick Morley and Matt McConville,) who both work for the same property management company, tried to swerve around the Golf but ended up clipping it on the side.

Maximillion Cooper, founder of the Rally made a statement:

“It is with extreme sadness I have to make an announcement of this nature in the events nine year history. The event is organized with each local authorities support and permission, and drivers are under strict stipulation to abide by the laws and road regulations of the country they are driving through. It is extremely sad for this unfortunate accident to have occurred. I am informed that the incident was reported immediately by the drivers. Both drivers are extremely traumatized by this occurrence.”
