Fastest Production Cars in the World - Quick Update

Back in March I wrote a post listing the 10 Fastest Cars in the World. It was hugely popular (and still is,) but I’ve received so many comments telling me that the list isn’t accurate anymore. I plan to do another comprehensive post on this in the future, but for now here is a quick update on the fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. On the last post, I also received a lot of comments about cars such as the Lingenfelter Corvette being faster. Just like the last list, this is only for production cars. Fastest cars in the world:

SSC Ultimate Aero

SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 256 mph

Horsepower: 1183

Torque: 1094lbs

On September 13th, 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero broke the official top speed world record, traveling 256.18 mph down a closed section of a Washington State highway. Impressive, considering the Ultimate Aero’s engine is only a twin-turbo V8 - half the size and turbo count of the Veyron below. Continue Reading…

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition

For when you have to stand out from the “regular” $1.2 Million Bugatti Veyrons, comes the Veyron Pegaso Edition. Reportedly owned by a Russian oil baron who lives in Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, the only seven-star hotel in the world, the owner is said to have tuned the car to a ridiculous 1200 horsepower, up from the regular Bugatti’s mere 1001. Bugatti Veyron Reaches 253 mph Top Speed

Bugatti Veyron

Great video from the folks at Top Gear bringing the Bugatti Veyron to it’s 253 mph top speed. The Veyron is the fastest production car in the world with a 1001 horsepower, W-16 style engine with four turbos. The amazing Bugatti can outrun F1 cars, and requires an extra key to put it into “fast” mode, which lowers the spoiler and the body so it can reach these awesome speeds.

Top 10 Fastest Cars in the World

So here we are, the list of the top 10 fastest production cars in the world, ranked by top speed. All the cars you would expect are on the list, ranked from fastest to slowest (though calling any of these cars slow is blasphemy.) We start the list with the king of fast.

Update: I’d like to clarify that this list only includes production cars. I’ve had a lot of comments mentioning the Lingenfelter Corvette, etc being faster, but that ultra-fast Vette is not in production. I’d also like to clear up that this list was created on March 30th, 2007.

The SSC Ultimate Aero has since broken the record as the fastest production car in the world, and I plan to address this in my next list. Be sure to subscribe to the Automoblog RSS Feed or free email newsletter to stay up-to-date.

Top Speed: 252.2 mph

1001 Horsepower

No surprises here, the fastest and most powerful production car ever makes the top of the list. I wonder when Koenigsegg will decide to take the #1 position and beef up the CCX.

Pink Bugatti Veyron - Really, Really Ugly

This is unbelievable. The Hello Kitty Ferrari was bad enough, but at least it was kinda cute. This is just horrid. Why in God’s name would you do this to a $1.3 million supercar?

Pink Bugatti Veyron

Somebody please tell me this is a photoshop. Thanks to a reader tip, we found the source of this monstrosity, and thankfully it is indeed a Photoshop job: SimpleJack Pink Veyron.

Bugatti Veyron for Lease - Only the Stupid May Apply

If you can’t afford the $1.4 million Bugatti Veyron supercar, Putnam Leasing is offering the supercar for lease…for a total of over $1.8 million. Seems like a bargain to me.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4

For a mere $400,000 down and $23,595 per month for 60 months (no more than 2,500 miles per year,) you can have this beast in your garage. Unless my math is REALLY bad: $400,000 down plus $23,595 x 60 months equals $1,815,700. Am I missing something here? You have to pay MORE for the car, plus you can only drive it 2,500 per year, AND you don’t actually own it? Unless I’m mistaken, you would have to be really stupid to take advantage of this “fantastic offer.”
