The Hamann-Imperator, A Big Bad Bentley

HAMANN IMPERATOR front.jpg

This is the Hamann-Imperator, which is essentially a Bentley modded to within an inch of its life by Germans I know what they’re going for here, name-wise, but you’ve also got laugh when you first read it or say it (for the first 25 or 68 times), because Imperator is quite the moniker to choose for a car. We can only assume that they already have the Hamann-Tyrant in the works, and we’ll get to see that later.

Bentley Arrives In Baku, Azerbaijan

oldBentley.jpg

I swear, the stuff that lands on your desk when you’re a professional automotive journalist. Case in point, a news item from Bentley titled “Bentley arrives in Baku, Azerbaijan”. OK, I’ll bite, why would Bentley, or any other car manufacturer want to set up shop in a place like Azerbaijan? And even more intriguing, how many people in Baku want to buy a Bentley?

Bentley Continental Supersports Unveiled

Bentley Continental Supersports
Bentley Continental Supersports

Bentley couldn’t wait until the Geneva Motor Show to unveil their “ultimate” car. Obviously based off of the Continental GT, the Continental Supersports gets the title of Fastest and most powerful Bentley ever made.

Starting with a Continental GT, Bentley dropped the two rear seats and replaced the front seats with carbon fiber versions. This effort, combined with other lightweight components drops the Continental Supersports’ weight by about 243 lbs from the Continental GT Speed. Bentley also seems rather proud that the Supersports can run on either E85 FlexFuel or regular petrol. I guess that’s their half-assed attempt at showing the public that they’re trying to be environmentally friendly. Continue Reading…

Mini Supercars - A Photo Gallery

Mini Lamborghini Diablo

Sometime last year, a few Photoshop gurus got together and made some very funny “mini” versions of their favorite cars. The trend caught on, and soon lots of people were taking their favorite cars, and through the process of image manipulation, made them mini versions of themselves.

Below, you will find a photo gallery full of these micro machines, in all of their hilarious glory. If you have any you’d like to share, please leave a comment.

Extreme Bentley Concept to be Unveiled at Geneva

Extreme Bentley Concept

Bentley announced they will be unveiling their latest concept car at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show in March. Unimaginatively dubbed “Extreme Bentley,” the new car will be based on Bentley’s new-ish belief in biofuel. This ethanol-guzzling concept looks to be based on the Continental GT, but will beat the GT’s 4 second 0-60 time and 202 mph top speed, becoming the “fastest, most powerful production [Bentley] ever” according to Bentley.

Ethanol-based fuel such as E85 may be cleaner burning, but it gets significantly worse fuel economy than gasoline alone. While I applaud Bentley for thinking ahead with alternative fuel, I’m not sure this is the right time to be releasing a supercar that gets much worse fuel economy than an already fuel inefficient supercar.

Keep reading for Bentley’s teaser video for the Extreme Concept: Continue Reading…

50 Years of The Bentley V8 Engine

BentleyCont.jpg

Maybe I’m showing my age, but my first thought at reading that Bentley is celebrating 50 years of V8s was to think, “Bentley makes V8s?” Of course I know they do, but, and maybe I’m being chauvinistic here, but I always think of V8s as being an American deal. Shoot, if I really think about it, I think of V8s as being Ford’s deal. Maybe that’s unfair, and I don’t mean to be so to Bentley, because they have always been “the performance division” of Rolls Royce (before they split up).
