Audi has recently unveiled the first mid-engine sports car from the car maker. Based off of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s platform, the R8 sports a 4.2 Liter V8 capable of pushing out 420 horsepower, and a 0-62 mph time of only 4.6 seconds. The R8 will be all-wheel-drive, and when it goes on sale in the first half of 2007, will cost between $80,000 to $110,000.

Kinda reminds me of that cool Audi from the movie i-Robot:

2008 Audi TT

A while back I commented a bit about the new 2007 Audi TT. The new, better looking Audi gets a significant facelift and is powered by a 2.0 liter turbo’d four-cylinder engine. It runs from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 6.2 seconds and hits a top speed of around 150 mph.

Also available is a 3.2 liter V6 producing 250 horsepower that runs the 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds and tops out at 155 mph (electronically limited.) Both options offer a DSG transmission (it’s called a “S tronic” now-a-days,) but come standard with a 6-speed manual. Both models have a rear spoiler that rises automatically at 75 mph. Prices are expected to start around $32,000 and go up to $43,000. Oh and if you care, the 4 cylinder gets 24/30 mpg and the V6 gets 22/27. More pictures after the jump.

Here is a video of Fifth Gear road-testing the car:

Audi R8

Here is a pretty cool video of the Audi R8 being test on the Nurburgring. The R8 is thought to have the 450 hp V10 that is in the Lamborghini Gallardo. This thing sounds good. Sadly though, the LED headlights will not be featured on the production model.

R Zero

I don’t really have much information on it yet, but there is some information concerning Audi’s newest concept, the R-Zero Electric Sports Car. The first time I heard of this car and saw it, I was instantly reminded of F-Zero, the awesome game for Super Nintendo way back when. It looks like one of the crafts in the game and it sounds like it’s named after the game. The most interesting features include the electric motors in each wheel, ran by battery packs in the center of the car, and the tunnel in the car running the whole length of the car from the front to the back. The tunnel is not only for aerodynamics, but also to cool the battery packs.

Eclipse Similarity

Notice a similarity? Audi has no official tie to the car yet, but is more a concept by three design students. I’m not really sure how I feel about the looks, but it’s not ugly. The picture above reminds me of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse, only backwards, and this picture below is very similar to the Maybach Excelero. More info after the jump.

We have some more info on the 2007 Audi TT. It was completely re-engineered, and looks pretty sexy. Still a bit “bubbly,” but has a significantly better stance than the previous model. Its dimensions have changed slightly (3 inches wider, 5 inches longer,) and it can get from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in 5.7 seconds, assuming of course you opted for the 250 hp 6-cylinder version with Quattro All-Wheel-Drive. They offer a 200 hp FWD and a 4-cylinder version as well, but nobody on this site is interested in that (right?)
