BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition Overview

The BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition is coming to the United States. Billed as a “high performance business sedan,” the car is among the most powerful offered by BMW.

It’s also one of the most rare.

Only 50 are available.

The BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition has several unique attributes, including the paint, that set it apart from other M vehicles.

Engine & Transmission

The Limited Edition M5 makes 600 horsepower on a high revving, 4.4 liter twin turbo V8. An increase in boost pressure and other modifications provide an additional 40 horsepower over the production model. Likewise, torque raises to 516 lb-ft, an increase of 16.

An M dual clutch transmission featuring Drivelogic is standard. The engine and transmission send the new BMW to 60 in just 3.9 seconds, while the M Driver’s Package increases top speed from 155 to 190 mph.

Ride & Handling

A Competition Package lowers the car by 0.4 inches and changes the suspension character. The overall setup of the spring dampers and stabilizers are much more firm. An M specific Servotronic function maximizes maneuverability around corners and through turns. M Dynamic Mode of the Dynamic Stability Control highlights handling characteristics unique to this BMW M5.

An Active M differential provides ideal traction.

M Carbon Ceramic Brakes are standard as are 20-inch wheels.

Interior Styling

Merino leather with contrast stitching, unique badging, and other aluminum trim components decorate the cockpit. Premium standard equipment includes: BMW Head-Up Display, BMW Driving Assistant, Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information, Comfort Access Keyless Entry, Adaptive Full LED Lights, and navigation.

Paint Profile

“The proof is in the pudding” applies here, expect replace pudding with paint. One of the most remarkable things about this M5 is the Pure Metal Silver, done at Plant Dingolfing’s paint shop. BMW uses a special pigment, layering, and application process to create the metal gleam and light/dark effects.

The vehicle is removed from the production line for the delicate process.

The surface is inspected multiple times for imperfections and uneven areas are smoothed by hand. The chassis is treated with a Glacier Silver Metal base coat while hundreds of thousands of thin aluminum flakes create a shining, uniform surface. After a thorough cleaning with compressed air, Pure Metal Silver is applied.

A factory specialist hand polishes and examines everything once more.
