Not far from where I live, in Flat Rock, Michigan, horses run wild. The Flat Rock Assembly Plant is easily visible from I-75; a banner draped over the side of one of the buildings reads “we love taking our work home with us.”
Flat Rock is a quiet community about a half hour south of Detroit. There isn’t much to downtown, aside from the usual Post Office, hardware store, and local law offices.
When the Mustang makes so much of an impact on the world stage, it’s sometimes hard to imagine a one horse town like Flat Rock produces the car dubbed as “The Faster Horse” in Hollywood.
The Pony In The Pages
People grow up dreaming about and ultimately cherishing the Mustang. I did. And the span of the vehicle is so dynamic, from the original 1964 1/2 at the World’s Fair, to the muscular Mach 1, and the sensational Shelby GT 500.

With the exception of a classic car show, it’s not likely we will ever find this many Mustangs in one place. It’s easy to get lost in the pages and find yourself either wanting a Mustang or falling even more in love with the one you have.
For me, it brought up fond memories of once living in Flat Rock, not far from the Mustang plant. That’s the thing about that iconic horse . . . it runs through your mind just as much as it runs on a racetrack or straightaway.
