Driving Etiquette Around The World

Perhaps it’s time for that dream vacation? Saved the pennies and dimes, got time off work, and even packed without forgetting anything (miracle).  The plane lands, pick up the rental car – so far so good, but now comes exposure to an entirely new driving culture and infrastructure.

Danielle and I recently watched the late Paul Walker flick Vehicle 19.  It made me never want to drive in another country.

Actually, it made me never want to drive here in the United States.  And I will thoroughly check every rental I get from now on.

Vehicle 19 is a rental car in a foreign country horror story.  When the back seat comes down in the film to reveal the woman, it’s the equivalent of Lethal Weapon’s bomb under the can.  Although, the latter is hilarious in light of its sheer potential for destruction.

Luckily, our friends at Adrian Flux sent this handy infographic from their blog showing how driving differs around the globe.  Provided the hotel screens for bathroom explosives, a Keith Moon type experience will be avoided. An added bonus, considering your life didn’t flash before your eyes because you were driving on the right side of the road.

Happy Travels!

  1. This is pretty fascinating. One thing that isn’t measured though, is how normal it is for drivers to disregard the law when it is convenient for them. The US doesn’t do this very often, but have you ever driven in Mexico or China? Yeah, it’s insane.
