Land Rover’s Discovery Vision Concept Migrates for New York Debut

Since introducing the first Land Rover in 1948, the British four-wheel drive vehicle constructor has undergone a huge metamorphosis. At first sold as a work tool for farming as well as other commercial operations, the Land Rover vehicles slowly began attracting an urban crowd. The Range Rover was originally intended as a barebones four-wheel drive for covering vast fields but is today a top luxury sport utility vehicle (the Queen of England‘s fondness for the vehicle may have helped lure some high-end popularity). In 2014, Land Rover almost exclusively appeals to an upscale clientele with their days on the farm largely over.

At the 2014 New York International Auto Show, Land Rover will once again be trekking forward into the realm of luxury and urban comfort with a concept for what is likely to become the successor design to the current-generation Discovery. The Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept will debut with the hype of being the guiding light for a future line of sport utility vehicles. Teasing with only a shadowy silhouette of the vehicle and several darkened views of the Discovery Vision Concept’s interior, the vehicle is said to be a forward-thinking product. Describing what can be expected from the yet-to-be unveiled to the public design, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer for Land Rover Gerry McGovern has stated, “.

 

 

We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow.” More about the Discovery Vision Concept will be delivered in the coming days leading up to the April 16th press day at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.

Land Rover’s mid-level Discovery (known as the LR4 in North America) has been one of the brand’s most prolific vehicles. With the one-millionth Land Rover Discovery built in 2012, the sport utility vehicle is clearly important to the overall well-being of the British brand. With many fans existing for the current Discovery/LR4 more rustic sport utility vehicle style, the concept vehicle will have to tread gently.
