Composing articles in the past month, I was conscious to the fact my story count was reaching a milestone. Contributing to Automoblog.net since April of 2010, I had contributed 499 postings ahead of this article. With this article, I have cracked the 500th article mark on Automoblog.net. Thank you to all who have read and enjoyed my work (I can imagine there are at least a few). Acknowledging this as a momentous occurrence, the chore for me was to determine something appropriate.
I was scrolling through the pictures I have snapped attending various automotive-related events and considered profiling some of my favourite vehicles I have captured. The problem was, the task proved most difficult on the basis there were so many fine automobiles and moments. I am not one of those automotive enthusiasts who can easily answer that time-old question of “If I can only have one car in the world, what vehicle would I own?” 1957 Chevrolet Belair, 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, Aston Martin DB5, Amphicar, Audi Ur-Quattro, DeLorean DMC-12, Nissan GT-R, Tesla Model S are just a few that instantly come to mind knowing full well choosing one means I’ll regret the opportunity to own another vehicle. At this point, it became apparent to me that perhaps I should share my motivation to automobiles. Of course, if you are a regular reader of Automoblog.net, you are a distinguishing automotive enthusiast yourself. By sharing part of what compels me to learn and write about cars, I’ll like to think it is an exercise in realization to why motoring is a source of love.
Automobiles are a most awesome creation. Continuing to dazzle a public even as driving has grown to become as natural as walking for many, motoring is something that evolves. Before my own eyes, I have seen the show industry climb out of a confused age of the 1980s. Awful diesel engines, rudimentary understanding of computer management systems, pop-up headlights and the Yugo were part of the automotive era where I found myself engaging in my passion for four-wheeled vehicles. I remembered riding the bus to school and intentionally grabbed a seat on the right hand side to look over many rental cars each morning. In grade one, I recall the Ford Tempo that one of my teachers and the Toyota Tercel five-door hatchback another teacher owned. I especially remembered one who drove an early third generation Ford Mustang. During that time, my interest was stoked by movie and television shows during what was an interesting age. Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider as well as Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines were part of my car-centric viewing.
Every vehicle a member of my family possessed also comes to mind quickly. Having been born into a family with relatives that worked with General Motors, I was partial to the company’s brand for years. However, with age, my allegiance has softened to greater admire all brands. With that said, I was highly eager to see the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s introduction in Detroit last month (by the way, add that car to my ever-going list).
Describing automobiles as a powerful attraction, it has played an important part in allowing at least one person to greatly overcome a serious social impediment. I owe much gratitude to my parents and several great teachers for guiding me to the point today where my impairment is largely minimized. However, cars encouraged me to learn and eventually share my acquired knowledge. Best thing is everyday I learn more about the past, present and even future of automobile culture.
As I am approaching my third year contributing to Automoblog.net, it has been my pleasure to provide some impressive in-depth coverage regarding the not only new vehicles but the technology that has or will drive automotive culture. There is hundreds of automotive journalist in the world but I deeply aspire that what I have been contributing has provided some definition. Recording 500 articles with Automoblog.net, I promise there will be more. The 2013 Canadian International AutoShow is set to begin this weekend and my attendance is guaranteed.
My article might have been a fitting write-up based on the fact it is so close to Valentine’s Day. After all, falling in love is a sensation that is most unique for which is never experienced in the same way.
