i have owned a 08 impreza wrx sti since i first had a test drive its performance and handling were second to none i purchased a 330 bhp model tweaked by prodrive and it destroys most cars on the road even those which are supposed to be out of its leage true it may not be much of a looker espeacally from the rear but thats where most other road users have to view it from super quick and agile the best sti i have owned

I wanted to take some rally-type pics with me drifting around a corner on the dirt road but then realized I have absolutely no drifting skills or rally experience, and learning in a $40,000 loaner car might not be a great idea :)

You're right about the 135i; they're similar in price and power, though I had always thought they'd have two different buyers.

I agree John, Subaru has done a great job of keeping the STI true to enthusiasts. Even though there is a lot of technology and safety equipment, etc in all new cars, the STI remains one of the few who remember where the name comes from.

Readers: John is a friend of mine, and you can read more about his STi (and his car adventures) in this article: http://www.automoblog.net/2008/07/27/johns-quest-...

As someone who previously owned one of these things before, there is no car I miss more. I think Subaru figured out what exhilarates people and made this car happen. While it wasn't the best on fuel (and 93 octane was recommended), it was great all-year-round.

Love the article and the dirt road pics. WHAT A CAR!!! I'd also consider the BMW 135i as a competitor in terms of price and performance. Before I decided to save some $ and buy a used S2000, I was shopping this STi and the 1er.
