When people took a close look at American-made cars (although it didn't require too close of a look,) they saw that the foreign cars were beating American cars in quality, performance, drivability, and value. American companies, there for a while, were simply making piles of junk and trying to pass them off as cars, and eventually the public got wise and stopped buying them. Now that the US companies are starting to realize they need to change and make better cars, they are. Well, expect Chrysler. GM and Ford have taken huge steps towards improving quality and desirability in their cars, with my "Most Improved" award going to GM in this case, although Ford has been improving for a longer time period. When we drove a <a href="http://www.automoblog.net/2008/08/15/2008-ford-fusion-sel-review/" rel="nofollow">2008 Ford Fusion</a> last year, we were impressed that Ford finally made a mid-size that could compete with Toyota, Nissan, and Honda. With the Fusion Hybrid, they hit the nail on the head. That's part of the problem.
