That's because: Joe-Q-American-Public has been told since the 70's when Honda and Toyota came across the pond that small hatchbacks are "inferior" to the large boat-like machines out of Detroit.
The rest of the world that wasn't subjected to this drivel will pick a hatch over a trunk any day.

I agree the hatch is the way to go on this car, but the American public doesn't like hatchbacks as much, so they had to do both.

This is a car not designed for people with large feet or wearing boots while driving. Very little space around the gas pedal.

While fun to drive: the puppy-dog face of this poor car hides its aggressive capabilities.

The Hatch is the only way to go on this one; it's far more practical and ranks easily in the top 3 for hatchbacks out there. The sedan is just another car with a useless trunk and I personally like the Civic much better.
