My car did the same thing yesterday. The radiator fan ran for about 5 to 10 minutes after the car was turned off. It was 55 degrees out. It never did it during the summer months when the temperature was 95. At 3000 miles I took my car for the courtesy inspection. They said everything looked fine. Now at 3600 miles it did this for the first time. The VW dealership asked if I wanted to make an appointment. I am going to wait for a month and monitor it.

I have a 09 Jetta TDI. My car did the same thing yesterday. My only gripe is the 12V power outlet is switched to the ignition. Very annoying that you can't charge a cell phone when the car is running.

I have the 09 TDi and love it. The engine may be in the middle of a exhaust particulate filter regeneration cycle, which continues even if you shut down the car. It needs the cooling in the engine compartment, because the regen is actually burning off the particulates and creating heat in the exhaust system.

It is normal. I did not take it to a technician, but I've done more research on it. It does appear to be "normal". I read a post on a different site which claims the owner's manual has some information on this. Some people on this site said the fan may run for 10 minutes after the car is shutdown. I'm not going to worry about it but I will ask the VW dealer the next time I have it in for service. It was only 70 degrees. I wasn't sure what to do, so I turned on the engine after a few minutes of the fan running, then turned it off and the fan finally stopped.

I have an TDI '09 and experienced the same thing today.
