I agree Denise, the road drives were a lot of fun, but apparently it was costing them too much in insurance premiums. A shame, because cars like the Ferrari and BMW are better on the road than on the track. Opposite goes for the GTR, Mercedes, Noble, etc.

I'm not going to read the whole thing right now. By the way, they just got a fully manual Noble M12 for those of us who want to drive a stick. Sadly, the road drives are gone. They only offer track days now, which are still a blast.

CB, it's a great gift idea. I recently purchased a drive as a gift myself. As far as aggressive driving, keep in mind you're on public roads and need to be careful. You're warned at the beginning to obey all speed limits and laws while driving. On the other hand, you're driving supercars and want to have some fun, so it's up to you what to make of the warning. I've been on two supercar drives (one with WCD) and on both drives a car has been totaled from someone "having fun." The last thing you want to do is total someone else's $100K+ car.

What are the rules regarding aggressive driving and taking these cars out to really see what they can do? I am considering giving this as a gift however I know that he is going to want to see what these cars can do, not just follow in a line. Thanks for the info.

Personally, I find it rather disappointing that there are zero true manual cars in the events. I understand the limitations (and that some of these are likely DSGs or similar, which aren't bad by any stretch), but it would be nice if there were at least one or two in there. The M3 in particular just begs to be offered with a stick.

Still, it is an interesting concept, and one which I'm likely to try at some point.

David, I agree completely. I used to stick up my nose at these systems, but the ones in these cars act much more like a manual transmission than the "tiptronic"-type systems.

I also normally have always preferred manual transmission, but these paddle shifters have grown on me and are fun to operate!!

If the cars were all manuals, I imagine you'd have to replace the clutch way too often, not to mention not everyone knows how to drive one. I don't like paddle shifters in most "normal" cars, but the systems in supercars like these are pretty good, except for the Porsche.
