The first and second gear give it a really nice kick and you can really handle the corners in 2nd. It really pushes the car. I can't even imagine it in automatic. Its probably terrible. I recommend the 5-speed manual yaris to anyone who can drive stick and is interested in an economy car. Personally I drive the stick 2009 Yaris and while I don't think I've driven enough cars to mind the center console, I definitely think the pep you're missing is because of the automatic.
