God’s Bailout

GodsBailout1

What you see here is a scene from The Greater Grace Temple, an 8,000 member Pentecostal church in NW Detroit. That would be three SUVs, hybrid SUVs at that, up there on the alter with (I’m assuming) Pastor Bishop Charles H. Ellis, III, and the full choir. There’s one hybrid SUV from each of the Detroit auto makers.

What’s happening is that Pastor Bishop Charles H. Ellis, III, and the full choir, and the parishioners are asking for God’s help in delivering government support for the industry. Pastor Bishop Charles H. Ellis, III’s sermon was titled: Hybrid Hope.

Ouch!

Really? Has it gotten that bad? Are the big three little more than those wretched people stranded on the poop deck of the RMS Titanic?

Could be, sure. Things look pretty bad. Even if you ignore the terrible management from the companies, product failings, etc etc etc, the sales figures alone for Ford Chrysler & GM tells you how bad it is in Detroit (and if you look at the world-wide sales figures, things ain’t all that great for BMW, Honda et al).

Praying? First thing I thought of were the immortal words of Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie:

Cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
Now, cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.

There’s another picture after the jump.
