“We will never do a four-door”

Luca f1

I know, this is a bit of old news, but it’s well worth mentioning.

At the Paris auto show last week, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo, had this to say about the possibility of Ferrari building a four door sedan:

“We will never do a four-door. If I am chairman for 20 more years and I hope I will be, we will never.”

And THAT, is yet another reason why Ferrari is the best car manufacturer in the world.

Look, I’ve seen some sedans to some amazing things; every seen rally footage of a WRX of EVO? Impressive. I’ve had to work really hard to keep up with more than one 2002 Tii, but ultimately, sedans are just too much of a compromise.

All that extra weight, bulk and stuff that doesn’t make the car go faster. What do you need that back seat for? And a full set of extra doors? That’s not going to help. And not just a roof, but a bigger roof so the back seat passengers can have headroom? And by the way, what the hell are those guys doing in the back seat anyway? I can see the need for a navigator, but one or two people in the back seat are just going to be more ballast.

Take a look at a formula 1 car. That, to me, is what a car is. Anything that deviates form that, dilutes what a car is.

I would love to figure out how to get license plates on an older Formula Ford. To me, for my needs, that car would be just about perfect.

And good for Luca di Montezemolo.

So hopefully this means that this rumor, and pictures of concept Ferrari SUV, are untrue?
