How The Hell did This Happen? The Chevy Volt Leaks Onto The Web

Chevy Volt for Real

OK, as most of you know, the pictures of Chevy’s highly anticipated Volt hybrid leaked onto the interwebs late yesterday, and now that the dust has kind of settled. it’s interesting to look at what has happened and what the reactions are.

Now, as any car guy will tell you, there are “leaks”, and then there are LEAKS.

As we know, car companies accidentally-on-purpose leak info and spy shots and whatnot about upcoming models all the time, it’s been a time honored tradition with car companies for who knows how long. Then there are honest to God leaks, and that’s what happened here.

GM had been guarding anything Volt for the longest time, and this was, I’m sure GM is thinking, a pretty big screw up. The General has a lot riding on the Volts success, for one thing, and GM is in pretty bad financial shape, so they can’t afford any slip ups. No, this isn’t as big of a deal as if there was something hideously wrong with the Volts engineering, but GM supposedly has the torches and pitchforks out looking for the heretic/underling that accidentally put those out there.

The other thing, if you read various comments here and there, is that a surprisingly large number of people really dislike the way this car looks, and a lot of them aren’t very happy with how much the production version differs from the show car.

Me, I think it looks OK for what it is; it’s another sort-of bland sedan that gets amazing mileage that, if it works, will go a long way to saving GM’s corporate butt.

So what’s your take?

Source: Hell, it’s all over the place.
