VW Microbus Back from The Dead?

VW Microbus

What? Could this really be true?

According to Autoblog (and The Sydney Morning Herald), VW’s version of a reinterpreted Microbus might actually make it to the market after all.

Allegedly, VW’s entertaining the idea of another version of the Microbus built on the same platform as the new sedan scheduled for prodution at VW’s Chattanooga, TN facility.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

if we were all being practical, we’d all be driving minivans or some variant thereof. Why don’t we? Because minivans are duller than paste, that’s why. Minivans have all the character of paper bag, and when you have the driving dynamics of a minivan, character is pretty much all you have left.

Ever driven an antique car? You know, something from the 20s or 30s? They drive like little trucks; tons of body lean, optimistic-at-best acceleration, prayer-inducing brakes, as comfortable as a lawn chair on a running washing machine.

But driving something from the 20s or 30s is still fun. Why? Character. You’re not just driving a car, you’re driving a 1928 Hupmobile! Brass radiator, huge flat pane of glass windshield, back seat that looks like Sigmund Freud’s couch. Driving something that odd has nothing but character (because there’s tons of body lean, optimistic-at-best acceleration etc. etc. etc.).

So if you’re going to be driving something as uninspiring as a minivan, you better give it character.

And you have got to say that the “proposed” new VW Microbus has tons of character, don’t you?

Well, do you?

Let us know in the comments … we can see where this takes us.

And once we get more character for minivans, we can work on them funner to drive.
