New Corvette Spied on Set of Transformers 2

Transformers Corvette

Whoa! talk about a bad-ass looking car. This was spotted on the set of the new Transformers movie at Edwards Air Force Base.

If you click on the image above, you can see there are more than one of those cars on set, as well as quite a few other cars that will be used in the movie. This car looks evil; let’s hope somebody makes it into production. Looks like a heavily modified Corvette to me!

Hot damn! Now that is cool.

GM has been having a lucky streak so far, but let me just offer a few suggestions, if they do build this. So listen up, Lutz.

First, make it mid-engine. Cool design + mid-engine + Corvette badge = a car that will scare the running lights out of Porsche, Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, and, dare I say it, Ferrari?

Second, make it fast. Like, FAST fast. The new ZR1 ain’t bad, but I would like to see a Corvette best a Ferrari when it comes to top speed. I know, I know, CAFE regulations are coming, no more fast cars, blah blah blah. Stop looking for ways to not do it, GM, and start looking for ways to get it done.

Third, actually BUILD the damn thing. Why have a cool car if you’re not going to do anything with it?

Just a few tips.

Couldn’t agree more, Will. Problem with GM is that they never build the really cool concepts of theirs.

A Corvette should never, ever be anything other than front-engine, rear-drive. I like the idea of a mid-engine car under a different name, but you stick a Corvette badge on it and people will riot in the streets.

Nick, I think you’re just against a mid-engine Vette because you hold on to the idea of the Corvette being America’s best muscle car, which means fast, powerful, and fantastic bang for the buck. But should it be kept that way? I dunno… maybe you have a point.

But if not a mid-engine Corvette, than perhaps a mid-engine car from a more stratospheric GM brand? I’m thinking the Cadillac XLR would fit the bill nicely, just make it mid-engine, really fast, and better looking— in short, I want it to be a production Cadillac Cien.

Chevy says that they are constantly looking at making the Vette a Mid engine car, but the idea gets shot down with every new generation. THEY want to see it be Mid Engine, but the added cost and complexity shoots down the idea every time. Plus, as Nick said, people would riot in the streets.

They should bring the Fiero back… that was a fun car, minute the who “Spontaneously combusting” thing.
