The Particulars On The New Quattroporte

New Quattroporte 1

Well, what’s not to like about this?

I, for one, have a soft spot for cars like this: Big Italian Sedans.

Why? mainly because they make no sense what so ever. Big, fast, capable sedans come from places like Germany (and, when they’re screwing them together right, England or America), not from Italy.

Big, fast sports cars and race cars, yes. Yes in spades! That is, after all, Italy’s forte.

So, that’s why I like cars such as Maserati’s Quattroporte.

Wouldn’t this be fun to take on a road trip across the desert or the mid-west?

Yes, yes … I know, what if “there’s trouble” when you’re half way into Death Valley? What if “there’s trouble” when floods wipe out XX tributary of the mighty Mississippi? It is, after all, and Italian car, and they don’t, sadly, inspire confidence in raltion to words such as “mechanical reliability” or “when you absolutly have to get there.”

But so be it … this things got a Ferrari-developed chassis and engine cranking out either 400-hp from a 4.2-liter V8, or 430-hp 4.7 mill, depending on the customers choice. It also comes with a ZF-sourced six-speed automatic (sadly loosing the sequential transmission).

But you know what else it’s got?

Style.

There’s more shots of the beast after the jump.

Wooo! Finally Maserati is getting is right. I’m getting a warm fuzzy feeling now, because always wanted to like Maserati, but couldn’t since they were…well…butt ugly, in my opinion (except for the 3200GT and some older models.)

The Maserati GranTurismo was the turning point…let’s hope they keep this up.
