What If GM Cuts Off An Arm & A Leg?

GM Logo

AutoExtremist.com plays a a game of ‘What If’.

In this instance, they speculate, what if GM were to keep only Chevrolet, Cadillac and Hummer going in North America. Buick would still be around, but for overseas markets only. GMC, Pontiac, Saturn? Gone. Vanished. Disappeared. Finito. And Saab (you do remember that GM owns Saab, don’t you)? Saab would either be sold or it would face the same fate as GMC, Pontiac, Saturn.

Not a very pleasant scenario for fans of The General, but one that makes a lot of sense, at least to the mind of AutoExtremist.com’s Peter De Lorenzo who makes a pretty good case for the ‘what ifs’ and so on and so forth.

And I got to say (and a lot of people say the same thing) that GM needs to get it’s house in order … of course, to me, that means concentrating more on product and engineering, and less to bean counting, but to an accounting driven organization like GM, “in order” will probably mean something different.

Thoughts?

I just don’t think GM is smart enough to make this move. It would cost mucho dinero too… and they don’t exactly have stacks of cash laying around. Long-term it would be an extremely smart move, but I doubt they have the foresight.
