World’s Worst Intersections & Traffic Jams

Traffic Jam

Via Neatorama comes this rather entertaining look at the worlds worst pieces of road when turned over to you & me, the average motorist.

Every town has them … those areas you just flat-out avoid because you know no matter when you try to go through them, it could be 4 in the morning, traffic will just be terrible.

Some of them you know even though you’ve never driven there, the - Arc de Triumph, in Paris, Rt. 440 in New Jersey, anywhere in Rome … and if surface streets weren’t bad enough, check out some of the highway interchanges. Why does it seem like the most convoluted and unnecessarily complex ones are in Shanghai, China, Tokyo, Japan, and in Minneapolis (between 35W and 94)?

Go figure.

Anyway, feel free to suggest your own in comments, but let me just say this: Anyone who says “Let’s just drive through Pike Place Market” in Seattle gets just what they deserve.

That is a crazy photo - they really should try to introduce flyovers in these kind of situations. All the rounds leading out of that junction are empty so they’d work really well. Unfortunately though traffic management is quite a low priority in many countries.
