General Motors is wasting no time in producing a hot-rod version of it’s highly-anticipated G8 sedan, which will arrive in your local dealerships at the end of this year.

GM and Pontiac unveiled the GXP at the New York Auto Show this week. According to their press release, which is chalk full of performance specifications, it looks like the upcoming GXP is going to be the one car that everyone has been seriously anticipating from GM.

Specs and more images after the jump.

  • The engine will be a LS3 6.2L V8, estimated to produce over 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque. (Pontiac is awaiting final SAE certification.)
  • A brand new Tremec six-speed manual transmission will be an option, while the Hydra-matic six-speed automatic will remain the standard transmission.
  • Fully independent and adjustable suspension, with MacPherson struts up front and a four-link coil-over in the rear. Brembo brakes up front with four-piston calipers putting the squeeze on larger 14-inch rotors. Nineteen-inch wheels will be the standard fair.
  • Interior treatments include specially bolstered seats wrapped in two-tone, GXP-specific leather, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and adjustable sport pedals.

If they keep the price of this badboy to a reasonable number, it will be untouchable in the “best bang for your buck” category as well as scare those cocky M5/E55 AMG fanboys. Should be interesting to watch.
